My only comment is that the mobile check in app is extremely difficult to use because it is glitchy and it took me almost 45 minutes to do the mobile check in which wasted a lot of my time. If the app improves then it is useful, but it was a very frustrating experience for me.
Laura TReservation Issue, Unsafe Vehicle, and Incorrect Charges I am writing to formally complain about a deeply frustrating and misleading experience with U‑Haul, involving a reservation that was not honored, the use of an unsafe vehicle, and being incorrectly charged mileage I was told would be unlimited. My original truck reservation was made for pickup at the Fullerton U‑Haul location. Shortly before my move, my son received a call stating that the truck I reserved was “in limited supply” and would not be available. I was told this was being remedied with an “upgrade” to a larger truck at a lower cost. However, this so‑called upgrade came with several unacceptable conditions: The truck had to be picked up in Yorba Linda, significantly farther from our home and loading location The original one‑way reservation would cost more, eliminating the benefit of the offered “deal” To make this work, I agreed to return the truck to Yorba Linda after unloading in Rancho Cucamonga, which already added substantial inconvenience and distance. Upon arrival in Yorba Linda, I discovered the truck was a 26‑foot truck for a one‑bedroom move, which was entirely unnecessary. When I specifically asked the employee handling the transaction whether the rental included unlimited mileage, he gave a brief nod of his head without making eye contact, which I reasonably interpreted as confirmation. The truck was provided with only a quarter tank of gas, requiring me to stop for fuel immediately. More concerning, during the drive the truck experienced constant, violent bouncing, even while driving under 50 MPH. The ride was so severe it caused nausea and concern for safety. After researching, this behavior is consistent with either improper suspension or an oversized truck being unloaded — either way, it should never have been rented out in that condition. Due to both the unsafe driving experience and the long return distance, I contacted U‑Haul upon reaching my home and asked to convert the rental to a one‑way drop‑off, offering to pay more. I was told this was not an option and that I was required to return the truck to Yorba Linda — despite the vehicle’s condition and prior misinformation. To make matters worse, my final invoice included mileage charges, totaling over $100 more than my original quote — directly contradicting what I was told at pickup. The “deal” I was offered because U‑Haul couldn’t provide the truck I reserved ended up costing me significantly more money, more time, and unnecessary stress. I have been a loyal U‑Haul customer for many years, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. I feel misled, overcharged, and placed in an unsafe situation. I should receive a full reimbursement of the mileage charges, as I was clearly told mileage would be unlimited I hope U‑Haul will take responsibility and restore the trust I previously had in your company.
