This is the second time we have used U-Haul at this location. What excellent customer service. Mannie was our super helper. U-Haul is very lucky to have such a great employee.

Granted my situation was an odd one, but when I had talked to them over the phone, they indicated what my charge was for dropping off the truck there instead of returning it to my pick up location but never checked the truck in. Regional office in Chandler fixed things but there was some serious confusion on possible charges.

The truck we rented was a piece of junk. You can tell the service was out of date and desperately needed. Because of this we had to drive 60 down the freeway! Which was a huge waste of time.

tell them you are adding extra insurance instead of billing them when you return the truck.

Truck could only climb gradients at a speed of between 30 - 35 MPH. It would bog down and the transmission would try to kick up into passing gear, which caused the water temp to rocket up and I was concerned that the motor and/or transmission would blow-up. Had to slow to 30 - 35 and try to hold the revs. at between 2500 and 3000 RPM and hang with the big rigs off to the side of the road and creep up some pretty step roads (yes if you were travelling on I-5 N. between Redding and Grants Pass last Wed. that was me you were laughing at as I was poking along). This was a long, long drive up through the mtns. of N. CA. and S. OR. and the steep inclines on I-10, E. of Barstow. Even when operating on normal flat roads around town, etc. the transmission seems to hang up between (3rd and 4th?) with the revs going all the way up above 3000 RPM before kicking into gear. IMO this truck is a hazard and needs to be taken off the road for long haul moves, or it should be limited to local moves only if operated in a relatively flat area. The main reason I went with a 20-ft truck + trailer, vs. a 26-ft truck + trailer is 1. availability of 26 footers in my area is very limited and 2. the 26 footers that are available here look old and worn out and I didn't trust taking them across town, let alone on a 1300 mile journey. Time to get some new trucks Joe. I also towed a 6 x 12 trailer and the running lights were inoperative. Brake lights and turn signals were OK. Had 2 encounters with the Po-Po jumping on my tail and giving me the evil eye at 0-dark thirty in the morning which caused some major concerns about being stopped. Luckily for me the running lights on the truck were bright enough to ease their concern, or they got called off on another call and decided not to light me up. Big sigh when the sun came up. When I turned the rig in and reported the fault the tech. identified a blown fuse in the truck and promptly replaced.
