Penn State Continuing Online Classes This Summer: Collegeboxes Stepping Up

Penn State University (PSU) recently announced that Penn State and its 10 satellite campuses will continue holding the majority of in-person classes online through summer 2020 due to Covid-19 concerns. This extends the Penn State campus closures implemented in mid-March, which forced students to vacate their dorms and university housing.

While the safety of students and university staff is the top priority, the sudden closure has left many students wondering how they can safely return to campus to retrieve their things. To help students during this unique situation, Collegeboxes is stepping up and providing remote move-out services at all 10 PSU satellite campuses.

Challenges for PSU students and staff

One of the challenges for students is retrieving abandoned belongings in the face of travel, costs, time and safety concerns. Out-of-state students are often hit especially hard with these challenges. Even local students that live on campus may not want to return right now due to Coronavirus concerns.

PSU campuses also must ensure they can provide a safe environment when in-person classes resume in the fall. That means dorms and other public areas need to be sanitized before students return. Removing students’ belongings in a safe and effective manner is step one in doing so.

How is Collegeboxes stepping up to help PSU students?

Collegeboxes is working closely with all PSU satellite campuses to offer remote college moving services to students who are unable or unwilling to return to campus. This allows students to move out of their dorm room 100% electronically and safely. By signing up online at Collegeboxes.com, students can have their belongings packed by Penn State University staff, picked up by Collegeboxes and placed in a nearby storage facility or shipped back home, all without returning to campus.

Collegeboxes services available to PSU students:

  • Supplies – Collegeboxes provides everything needed to pack a college dorm room, including moving boxes, tape, zip ties, label pouches and a marker.
  • Shipping – Belongings can be shipped to students’ homes, or anywhere in the world. Collegeboxes ships all boxes and dorm room items via FedEx®.
  • Storage – Students can have their belongings delivered to a nearby U-Haul storage facility, then have the boxes delivered back to campus when they return to school.
