Grand Opening: U-Haul at Crosstown to Introduce State-of-the-Art Storage Center

Public Invited to Ribbon-Cutting and Free Lunch on Nov. 9

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (Oct. 30, 2017) — U-Haul® will host a grand-opening event Nov. 9 to showcase its contemporary two-story indoor self-storage facility at 375 Hwy. 74 S.

Peachtree City residents and media attending the festivities from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. can take a behind-the-scenes facility tour, enjoy a complimentary lunch, witness the symbolic ribbon-cutting and take part in other activities and giveaways. The formal ceremony is at 11:30. Lunch will be served on a first-come-first-served basis at 12:30.

“Peachtree City is the retirement capital of Georgia, and our neighbors have been longing for a state-of-the-art self-storage facility,” noted Jon Scoville, U-Haul Company of Atlanta South president. “We are excited to introduce our top-of-the-line services, including our U-Haul Truck Share 24/7 self-service options.”

U-Haul Moving & Storage at Crosstown opened in a limited capacity in July 2015, offering truck and trailer sharing and moving supplies out of a temporary showroom.

Then the real work began. More than two years of cleanup and construction yielded a renovated 77,100 square-foot structure with 1,097 self-storage units. There is a 5,200 square-foot warehouse that will house U-Box portable moving and storage containers. Behind the main building sits a 44,000-square-foot warehouse with four office suites.

Self-storage customers will enjoy U-Haul Remote 24/7® access, high-tech security features, an elevator, a covered load/unload area, and a re-use center for sharing boxes and gently used household items. The center also offers towing equipment and professional hitch installation, propane and more.

“Almost everyone in Peachtree City drives a golf cart, and we provide golf cart parking and a charge station for our neighbors,” Scoville said. “Folks can rent a U-Haul truck and leave their cart here to charge.”

Contact U-Haul Moving & Storage at Crosstown at (678) 619-3056 or stop by in person to see the facility. Hours of operation are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Saturday; 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Reserve equipment at uhaul.com or contact Reservations at 1-800-GO-UHAUL.

The acquisition of the Peachtree City facility was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.

By repurposing the former office space and warehouse, U-Haul prevented the use of 4,034 tons of metal manufacturing and transportation (the same amount of steel used to make 4,067 passenger cars); avoided 5,850 tons of new concrete pours (enough to create 118 miles of concrete blocks); kept 9,884 tons of construction and demolition debris out of landfills (avoiding 380 dump trucks traveling 7,983 miles in total); and stopped 18,519,490 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere (the same carbon emissions of 1,421 large SUVs or pickup trucks for one year).

“U-Haul is committed to preservation and green business,” Scoville said. “Our sustainability mission is in place to conserve our planet, and I’m so proud of this adaptive reuse project. We can’t wait to serve Peachtree City for years to come.”

The arrival of U-Haul Truck Share 24/7 is modernizing the moving industry by offering self-service and live verify technology to enhance customer and community safety. This technology allows for the self-pick-up and self-return of U-Haul trucks to be done entirely by smartphone at any hour – day or night. Membership is free once customers create an account on uhaul.com.
