How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2017 Kia Sedona

Installing a trailer hitch on a 2017 Kia Sedona requires only a handful of tools, a Draw-Tite 75894 trailer hitch and about an hour to complete the installation. Follow these basic steps and you will be on your way to hauling a number of hitch-mounted accessories in your Kia Sedona.

About the Draw-Tite 75894

The Draw-Tite 75894 is a class 3, bolt-on trailer hitch designed for the 2017 Kia Sedona. The hitch has a 4,000 lb. max trailer weight and a 400 lb. max tongue weight. It’s ideal for hauling small and large loads, including items like bike racks, cargo carriers and more.

Tools needed:

  • Exhaust pliers
  • Torque wrench
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • 19mm socket
  • Safety glasses
  • 5 in. socket extension
  • Pry bar
  • Socket wrench

2017 Kia Sedona hitch installation steps

1. Remove the appearance panel, if present

The appearance panel is located on the rear driver side on Kia Sedona models. It is held in place by seven plastic rivets. Using the flathead screwdriver, pry each rivet from the panel then gently separate the panel from the bumper.

2. Lower the exhaust

On the passenger side, pry the isolator rod from rubber exhaust hanger using the exhaust pliers. You may need to lubricate the hanger using soapy water.

3. Position the hitch

Raise the hitch into position starting on the passenger side. Slide the right side of the hitch above the tail pipe then position the left side of the hitch against the frame. Secure the hitch by loosely installing the conical washers and hex bolts. There should be three on each side.

4. Tighten and torque the bolts

With the hitch in position, tighten the hex bolts using the 19mm socket. After the bolts are firmly tightened, use the torque wrench to torque the bolts to 76 ft. lb. You should hear a clicking sound after the appropriate amount of torque is applied. You may need the 5-inch extension to reach the bolts on the passenger side.

5. Raise the exhaust

Using the exhaust pliers, return the isolator rod to the rubber exhaust hanger.

Once installed, the hitch will measure:

  • 5 in. from the pin hole to the end of the bumper
  • 2 ½ in. from the end of the receiver to the end of the bumper
  • 11 ¼ in. from the top inside of the receiver to the ground

You should now have your Draw-Tite 75894 trailer hitch installed on your 2017 Kia Sedona.
