How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2018 Ford Transit
To add a trailer hitch to a 2018 Ford Transit you will need a few tools, a Draw-Tite 75912 trailer hitch and about 30 minutes to complete the installation. Follow these basic steps to start hauling all sorts of hitch-mounted accessories with your Ford Transit today.

2018 Ford Transit hitch Installation Steps
1. Thread the self-tapping holes
Use the 15mm socket, power drill and provided self-tapping bolts to thread the attachment holes on the frame rail. Drill each bolt about halfway down, then pull it back out to thread the frame holes. Repeat this step on all four frame attachment holes.
2. Feed the hardware into the frame
Attach a spacer and ½-inch carriage bolt to the coil end of the provided fish wire. Feed the wire through the open end of the frame rail on the passenger side and pull it through the access hole so the bolt and coil drop through the hole. Leave the wire attached. Repeat this step on the driver side.
3. Position the hitch
Lift the hitch into position. You may need a second pair of hands for this step. Thread the fish wire through the attachment holes on both sides of the hitch. Make sure the threaded holes on the frame are lined up with the attachment holes on the hitch.
4. Attach the hitch
Remove the fish wires and secure the hitch by installing the conical washer and hex nuts on the carriage bolts on both sides. Reinstall the self-tapping bolts by hand in the threaded holes. Tighten the self-tapping bolts with the 15mm socket and the ¾ in. socket on the hex nuts.
5. Torque the bolts and nuts
Torque all the fasteners to 75 ft. lb. using the torque wrench. You may need to use the 5-inch extension when torquing the passenger side carriage bolt if the exhaust is blocking your access. The wrench should make a clicking sound once the correct amount of torque has been applied.
Once installed, the hitch should measure:
- 3 in. from the pin hole to the end of the receiver
- 16 ½ in. from the top of the receiver to the ground
You should now have your Draw-Tite 75912 trailer hitch installed on your 2018 Ford Transit.
