Chevrolet Equinox Hitch Installation Steps

1. Lower Exhaust

Our first step in this hitch installation process will be to remove two screws located underneath the bumper using a T15 Torx Bit. Following this we will be lowering the vehicle’s exhaust. Before detaching it from the frame, we will install a support strap to prevent the exhaust from falling. Once the strap is in place we can detach the exhaust from its rubber retainer and remove its two bolts using a 15mm ratchet.

2. Install Provided Hardware

Now with the exhaust out of the way, we can begin to install our hardware. There are three attachment points on each side of the vehicle’s frame where we will be installing a carriage bolt and spacer by using fish wire.

3. Raise Hitch Into Place

With the underbody of the vehicle prepped, we can now raise our hitch into its proper position. While raising the hitch we will pull all of our fish wires through the corresponding attachment points on the hitch.

4. Install and Torque Nuts and Washers

Next we can install the remaining pieces of the provided hardware. For this process, we will be removing the fish wire from each bolt and applying a conical tooth washer and nut. Once installed we will tighten each bolt with an 18mm socket. After this we will torque all the hardware to the manufacturer’s specifications.

5. Re-install Exhaust

Now with our hitch successfully installed we can raise our exhaust back into place and re-install its brackets.

You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Chevrolet Equinox.
