Dodge Durango Hitch Installation Steps

1. Lower Spare Tire

To start the hitch installation process, our first step will be to lower the spare tire if there’s one present on the vehicle.

2. Remove Factory Bolts

Once we have lowered the spare tire, two bolts on each side of the vehicle’s frame will now be visible. These bolts will need to be removed, which we will do with a 21mm socket.

3. Raise Hitch Into Position

With these factory bolts removed we can now raise the hitch into its proper position. If your vehicle has heat shields installed, the hitch can line up just inside of these when raising it towards the frame.

4. Re-Install Factory Bolts

Now with the hitch in place, we can re-install the factory bolts we previously removed to secure it to the vehicle’s frame.

5. Tighten and Torque Bolts

To finish securing the hitch and its hardware to the vehicle frame, we will be tightening it with our 21mm socket. Then we will torque with our torque wrench according to the manufacturer's specifications.

5. Re-Install Spare Tire

To finish our hitch installation process, we will re-install the spare tire we lowered in the first step.

You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Dodge Durango.
