Ford Maverick Hitch Installation Steps

1. Lower Exhaust

To begin the hitch installation process, we will need to prep the vehicle’s underbody for the addition of the hitch. To start we will need to lower the exhaust, which is held by three exhaust hangers. For this vehicle, it is only necessary to remove the rear-most hanger to lower the exhaust enough for the hitch’s installation.

2. Remove Underbody Panel

Our next step will be to remove the rear underbody panel found on the passenger side. This panel features eight bolts and a plastic push clip. These bolts can be removed with a 7mm socket.

3. Remove Factory Bolts

With the rear underbody panel removed, the two factory bolts which need to be removed will be now visible. Each of these bolts can be removed with an 18mm socket.

4. Trim Fascia and Underbody Panel

Trims to the bumper fascia and underbody panel will be needed to make room for the hitch’s presence on the vehicle. The exact dimensions needed for each trim can be found in the complete instructions.

5. Install Provided Hardware

Now that the vehicle’s underbody has been prepped, we can install the provided hardware for the hitch installation. The hardware should be installed to the frame by using fish wire.

6. Raise Hitch into Position

After installing the hardware we can now raise the hitch into its proper position. The hitch should be placed adjacent to the appropriate attachment points and through the previously made trim of the bumper fascia. Once the hitch is in place, be sure to install the remaining hardware.

7. Tighten and Torque

We now need to tighten and torque the hitch to the manufacturer’s specifications. For the forward-most bolts, an 11\16-inc socket can be used. The rear-most bolts can be tightened with a 19mm socket.

8. Re-install Removed Parts

Now that the hitch is installed, we can re-install the parts which were removed. The rear passenger side underbody panel can be re-installed. Next, the exhaust can be re-installed by attaching the hanger to the built-in bracket found on the hitch.

You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Ford Maverick.
