Hyundai loniq 5 (2022) Hitch Installation Steps
1. Remove Clips and Bolts from the Fascia Panel
To begin the hitch installation process, there will be many steps needed to prepare the vehicle for the addition of the hitch. To start we will be removing the several clips found on the fascia panel. Four bolts located near the inner wheel well on each side of the vehicle will need to be removed as well.
2. Remove Taillight
The next step involves removing the vehicle’s taillights. To begin this step, the taillight covers will need to be removed. Following this, we will carefully detach the vehicle’s taillights and disconnect its electrical parts. Be sure to tape and secure the connector to the body panel to avoid it falling back in.
3. Remove Fascia Panel
Located at the bottom of the vehicle, the small fascia panel will need to be removed. Behind where the fascia panel was, two 12mm bolts from the bumper beam are next to be removed. Following this, a large orange wiring harness located on the passenger side of the vehicle needs to be moved away from the bumper beam.
4. Bumper Fascia Removal
We are now going to remove the rear bumper fascia, to start this process we’ll need to pull back the vehicle’s wheel liner. Once the lower portion of the wheel liner is away from the panel, there are four plastic push pins that will need to be removed. Repeat this process on each side of the vehicle. Once these push pins have been detached, the bumper can be removed. While removing the bumper be sure to disconnect its bumper sensor.
5. Bumper Fascia Modifications
With the bumper fascia officially removed, we will now need to make a few modifications for the hitch starting with removing the middle bumper beam.
6. Raise Hitch into Position
While the bumper fascia is removed, you can now raise the hitch into its proper position.
7. Install the Hardware
After the hitch has been raised into position, the provided hardware can be installed in the attachment points of the hitch and the vehicle’s frame. Once the hardware has been installed be sure to tighten and torque according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
8. Re-install Bumper Fascia, Panel, and Taillights
With the hitch installed, our final step is to re-install the parts of the vehicle which needed to be removed. First, the bumper fascia needs to be trimmed prior to being re-installed. While re-installing the bumper, don’t forget to reconnect its electrical sensor which we detached in step 4. Following this, the lower fascia panel and taillights can be re-installed to finish the process.
You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Hyundai Ioniq 5.
