Hyundai Kona (2020-2023) Hitch Installation Steps

1. Remove Underbody Panel

To begin the hitch installation process, we will be removing the underbody dust panel located on the passenger side of the vehicle. This panel features three push pins and a bolt. The push pins can be removed with a flathead screwdriver and the bolt with a 10mm socket.

2. Raise Hitch into Position

With this underbody panel removed, we can begin raising the hitch into position. The hitch should align with the two existing attachment points on the frame for each side of the vehicle.

3. Install Provided Hardware

Our next step after getting the hitch into place will be to install the provided hardware to the appropriate attachment points. When installing these bolts we will be using the fish wire method to get the hardware through the access holes. Following this, we will need to install the washer and nut to each bolt - securing it to the hitch.

4. Tighten and torque hitch

With the hitch in place and the hardware installed, we will now tighten and torque the hitch according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Hyundai Kona.

The most common lighting harness comes in a 4 pin and 7 pin connector.  The 4- way connector has basic lighting functions (running lights, brake lights, turn signal) while the 7-way connector adds a 12-volt circuit, circuit for electric trailer brakes, and reverse lights.
