Kia Carnival Hitch Installation Steps

1. Remove Underbody Panel

To start the hitch installation process, our first step will be to remove the rear underbody panel located on the driver's side of the vehicle. This panel is held in by six push pins which we will remove by using a flat-head screwdriver. We will set this panel to the side to be installed later.

2. Lower Exhaust

Next on our passenger side, we are going to lower the exhaust. To do this we are going to detach the rubber hanger found on the side. Spraying it with soapy water and using exhaust pliers can make this much easier.

3. Raise Hitch Into Place

With the underbody of the vehicle prepped, we can now raise the hitch into its proper position.

4. Install Hardware

Now with the hitch lined up, we are ready to bring all our hardware into place. On each side of the vehicle, three bolts and washers will need to be installed.

5. Tighten and Torque Bolts

With all of our hardware installed, we can tighten and torque to properly secure the hitch to the frame. We will be torquing according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

6. Re-Install Exhaust

After the hitch is installed we can finish by re-installing the parts we previously removed in our hitch installation process. To re-install the exhaust, we can simply attach the removed exhaust hanger.

7. Trim and Re-Install Underbody Panel

To re-install the underbody panel, a trim is needed to make room for the addition of the hitch. The exact measurements can be found in the instructions manual. Following this trim, we can re-install this panel by attaching its push pins we previously removed.

You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Kia Carnival.
