Kia Niro EV Hitch Installation Steps
1. Remove Underbody Panel
To begin our hitch installation process we will need to prepare the underbody of the vehicle for the hitch. First, we will be removing the rear underbody panel. This panel features seven plastic push clips, four 10mm bolts, and two plastic nuts. Following the removal of this panel - depending on the model of Kira Niro, there may be a small facia clip that will need to be trimmed and removed.
2. Raise Hitch Into Position
With the underbody of the vehicle prepared, we can now raise the hitch into its proper position on the vehicle’s frame.
3. Install Provided Hardware
Now with the hitch in its proper position, we can install the provided hardware properly securing it to the vehicle's frame. We will be installing two 18mm bolts with conical washers on each side of the vehicle.
4. Tighten and Torque Hitch
With all of our hardware installed, we will now tighten and torque all of our hardware according to the manufacturer's specifications.
5. Trim and Re-Install Underbody Panel
Our final step will be to re-install the rear underbody panel which we previously removed. Before re-installing, we will need to make trim space to allow room for the hitch’s presence. We will be using an air saw to complete this trim.
You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Kia Niro EV.
