Mazda CX-5 (2013-2021) Hitch Installation Steps
1. Prep Underbody
Start by removing your plastic fascia support. Following this, you will need to lower the exhaust to make room for the hitch. Remove the rubber hangers found on each side of the vehicle. Be sure to use a strap to support the exhaust to prevent it from falling completely.
2. Install Hardware
Fish wire the carriage bolts and blockers through the appropriate attachment points. The vehicle has two attachment points found on each side of the frame.
3. Raise Hitch into Position
Raise hitch into proper position to attach to the frame. Be sure to feed the fish wire through the access holes of the hitch, this will prevent the bolts from being pushed back into the frame.
4. Secure the Hitch to the Frame
Now with the hitch raised into its proper alignment, remove the fish wire and attach the provided conical tooth washers and nuts to the previously installed bolts.
5. Tighten and Torque Hitch
Tighten and torque all your bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications using a torque wrench and 19mm socket.
6. Raise Lowered Exhaust
Finally, raise your lowered exhaust from step 1. Remove the support strap and re-install the rubber hangers.
You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Mazda CX-5.
