2018-2024 Nissan Kicks Hitch Installation Steps
1. Lower the Exhaust
To begin our hitch installation process we will need to prep the underbody of the vehicle for the addition of the hitch. To start, we will need to lower the vehicle’s exhaust. To lower the exhaust we will be using our exhaust pliers and support strap.
2. Remove and Trim Heat Shield
Next, we will need to trim the vehicle’s heat shield. To do this we will be using our 15/16 inch sockets to remove each of its fasteners. Once the heat shield is removed we can make the necessary trims with our tin snips.
3. Lower Carbon Canister
Our next step will be to lower the carbon canister located on the driver’s side of the vehicle. For our vehicle, the carbon canister had a 13mm and 12mm bolt that needed to be removed.
4. Enlarge Acces Points
Following this we will need to enlarge the access found on the vehicle’s frame using our power drill and step bit.
5. Install Hardware
With the underbody of the vehicle now prepared we can begin installing the provided hardware. We will be using the fish wire technique to feed the hardware into each access hole.
6. Re-Install Heat Shield
Next, we can go ahead and re-install the heat shield with the fasteners we previously removed.
7. Raise Hitch Into Position
We can now raise our hitch into its proper position on the vehicle’s frame.
8. Install Remaining Hardware
With the hitch in place, we can now install the remaining hardware. We will be installing a washer and nut to each of the bolts that we previously installed.
9. Tighten and Torque Hitch
To properly secure the hitch to the vehicle’s frame, we will now tighten and torque the hardware according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
10. Re-install the Carbon Canister and Exhaust
To complete our hitch installation process, we will re-install the carbon canister and exhaust from our previous steps.
You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Nissan Kicks.
