Toyota Highlander (2020-2021) Hitch Installation Steps

1. Prep the Underbody

To start the hitch installation process you will need to prep the underbody of the vehicle for the addition of the hitch. To begin, remove the underbody panel found on the driver side. Next, you will need to remove the bumper pin and bracket on the passenger side.

2. Remove Plugs on Frame

Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the plastic plugs found on the bottom of the vehicle’s frame rail. Once removed these will be the three attachment points for the hitch.

3. Raise Hitch into Position

Now that the underbody is prepped the hitch is ready to be put into place. Be sure to line up the hitch properly into position,  adjacent to the vehicle’s attachment points.

4. Install the Hardware

Install provided hardware to secure the hitch to the frame. Each side of the vehicle’s frame will require three bolts with a conical tooth washer.

5. Tighten and Torque Hitch

Tighten and torque all installed hardware according to the manufacturer's specification using the torque wrench and 19mm socket.

6. Re-install Underbody Panel

If desired, the underbody panel can be re-installed on the vehicle. The panel will need to be trimmed to fit around the installed hitch.

You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Toyota Highlander.
