Before starting your truck rental process, knowing what to expect makes the process much smoother. A U-Haul truck rental provides you with flexibility to choose the right vehicle size for your move, rent on your schedule, and add services to make your move even easier.  

Here’s what you’ll need to rent a U-Haul truck:  

• A valid physical driver’s license 

• A second form of ID (passport or a name and phone number of an alternate contact we can call) 

• A credit or debit card  

• A well charged smartphone for app-based rentals and verification  

• Be at least 18 years old

Step 1: Download and Sign In 

You can start by downloading the U-Haul App if you don’t have it already. After launching the app, sign in to your U-Haul account. If you don’t already have an account, you can create one.  

Here, you may also be prompted to add a payment method. Adding this can help make the rental process more seamless by having your payment details saved to your account. You can also skip this step for now and complete your profile later.

Step 2: Access the U-Haul Truck Rental Feature 

Navigate to the Home tab at the bottom of your screen. Here, you will see a section titled “Products and Services”. Select the Trucks icon from this list (it’s usually the first option).  

Step 3: Enter Your Details and Select Your Truck Rental and Location 

Next, you will be prompted to enter some basic information for your truck rental such as pickup location, drop off location, and pickup date. Once you enter this information, tap “Search”.

Once you decide which truck rental is right for you, tap “Select”, listed under your desired rental. You can also add vehicle towing here if desired.  

Step 4: Select a Location and Customize Your Truck Rental 

After selecting your truck size, you’ll see which nearby U-Haul locations have your desired truck size and type available. Simply choose whichever pickup location is most convenient.  

Once you select your location, enter your pickup details, including the hours needed and pickup time. You can change your pickup date if needed, as well as view available alternate moving vans and trucks.  

You can then select your preferred pickup method. You can select mobile pickup or counter pickup. If you’re moving on a tight schedule, mobile pickup will save you time by providing a contactless, easy pickup process.

You can then select any desired add-ons, including:

Once you’ve confirmed your details look correct, complete your reservation by using your preferred payment method. You will also see an order summary at the bottom, where you can double-check your reservation details before locking it in. Once your reservation is booked, you will also receive a confirmation message with all your rental details.
