What Makes U-Haul the Best Moving Truck Rental Company?

At U-Haul, we’re committed to constantly improving and replenishing our fleet of vehicles. This means that U-Haul trucks are durable, easy to drive, and designed for household moving.

How U-Haul Rental Moving Trucks are Built

Unlike other rental companies, U-Haul builds our rental equipment in-house; our equipment is tested thoroughly before being released for rental. This scrutiny results in safer, more durable, and more user-friendly equipment.

U-Haul trucks are built on durable Ford® and GM® brand chassis, engineered for a smooth ride, easy loading, and maximum safety. Our technicians construct the cargo box, add our exclusive EZ-Load ramps, and combine everything into one fully functional U-Haul truck—ready to move your belongings safely.

Did You Know: U-Haul trucks sized 15’ and above come with an additional storage space called Mom’s Attic®. This compartment sits above the cab and is perfect for fragile items you want to keep separate from the rest of your belongings.

Moving Rental Truck Maintenance at U-Haul

Building reliable trucks in-house is just the first step—we also go above and beyond to keep them in top condition for your move. That’s why we have 135 repair shops across the U.S. and Canada (with 14 more on the way).

We’ve also implemented a robust inspection program that far exceeds OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards. These inspections come with three levels:

Level 1: Completed every equipment return (customer concerns, tire check, etc.). If an issue is found, the equipment is flagged and removed from the fleet until it’s fixed.

Level 2: Field inspections every 30 days for one-way rentals and every 60 days for in-town rentals.

Level 3: Full preventative maintenance performed at U-Haul shops at regular mileage intervals.

Onsite Repairs: U-Haul doesn’t just repair equipment at shops—we also perform repairs at local centers when needed!

Investing in Certified Technicians

U-Haul goes above and beyond industry standards for maintenance and training for our rental moving trucks. We invest in our technicians and help them acquire manufacturer certifications.

That’s why we created the Master Tech Training Program, which combines unique U-Haul training with Ford®, GM®, and Stellantis® certifications. This means our technicians can handle warranty or recall repairs without waiting on dealerships, ensuring faster, more efficient service.

Nationwide Roadside Assistance at U-Haul

U-Haul has a trusted network of over 21,500 roadside vendor partners ready to help if you encounter issues during your drive. Each roadside technician is thoroughly vetted before joining our network to ensure they meet U-Haul’s high standards.

All U-Haul truck rentals come with roadside assistance, accessible through the U-Haul app or by calling 1-800-528-0355.

Roadside assistance can help with:

  • Flat or blown tires
  • Stuck equipment
  • Trailer hook-up issues
  • Accidents
  • Overheating

Additional Coverage Options for Your Trusted Truck Rental

Roadside assistance doesn’t cover incidents caused by human error (like losing your keys). At the time of your rental, you can add SafeTrip® Insurance for as low as $5 per rental. This covers additional assistance for:

  • Jump starting a dead battery
  • Filling an empty gas tank (up to 3 gallons)
  • Lost keys
