Moving Company Prices: Moving HelpĀ® vs. The Competition

Last Updated:

When it comes to moving your belongings, you have three options: full-service movers, labor-only movers, and doing it all yourself. If you’re deciding which moving company you need to go with, you’ve come to the right place. This guide will cover all the costs when it comes to moving companies.

Key Takeaways

  • Many moving companies offer labor-only movers — going with a company that promotes honest reviews is your best choice.
  • Moving companies that can be easily paired with a moving truck rental/portable storage unit make the easiest moves.
  • If you’re moving on a budget, labor-only movers are one of the most affordable options.

What Are Labor-Only Movers?

Labor-only movers for hire specialize in specific parts of a move, whether it’s packing, loading, unloading, or unpacking. These services are some of the most affordable options for DIY moving because of how flexible moving options are. You choose the services, schedule, and number of helpers.

Pairing labor-only movers with a moving truck rental or portable storage container often delivers a near full-service experience at a lower cost.

How Much Do Moving Companies Cost?

Moving companies, whether full-service or moving labor for hire companies, all have costs. Full-service moving companies charge much more than moving labor for hire companies because you pay for every part of the moving process. On the other hand, moving labor for hire companies tends to cost significantly less because you’re only paying for specific parts of the moving process.

Here are the ranges of cost for a local move between full-service moving companies and moving labor companies for hire. These ranges cover home size and the number of laborers/hours worked.

  • Full-service moving companies: $560 to $3,332
  • Moving labor companies for hire: $236 to $3,545

Here are the ranges of cost for a long-distance move:

  • Full-service moving companies: $1,252 to $15,729
  • Moving labor companies for hire: $236 to $3,545

How Much Does Moving Help® Cost?

Believe it or not, hiring Moving Help can be easy, flexible, and affordable. With Moving Help, you can sort through Service Providers by overall rating, lowest cost, and services offered.

Moving Help vs. HireAHelper®

HireAHelper is similar to Moving Help, which showcases labor-only movers in your local area. You can filter your needs to help fit your move.

With HireAHelper, you must cancel 48 hours prior to your moving date to receive a full refund, which makes it harder when plans change at the last minute, even for something outside of your control.

If you cancel between 48 to 2 hours before your move, HireAHelper charges two hours at the rate you booked. Canceling within the hour will charge you the full price of the move. HireAHelper also does not require background checks for the moving companies that are on its website.

Meanwhile, Moving Help requires all moving companies to be identity verified and background checked when setting up an account on the Moving Help Marketplace.  Moving Help also does not have any cancellation fees.

Moving Help vs. Taskrabbit®

Taskrabbit is a service for people requiring services outside of and including moving. You hire a tasker, and they’ll show up where you need them to. Taskers are independent contractors, so you’ll need to hire them separately if you need two or more movers. If you need multiple movers, you must book each tasker separately, resulting in separate payments.

If you cancel the task within 24 hours of the time you scheduled, Taskrabbit also charges you a cancellation fee. They also charge you a Trust & Support fee, 5 to 15 percent of the total task price.

For Moving Help, the price you see after customizing your booking is what you pay. You have within 60 days to leave a review for your Service Provider. Once the review is completed, the Refundable Marketplace Fee will be refunded to you.

Moving Help vs. Airtasker®

Airtasker is a website where you submit a post about what you need specifically, and people can respond with details of their available services. Like Taskrabbit, you can only accept one tasker at a time. Airtasker also charges a connection fee that ranges from $4.90 to $49.50 and is non-refundable.

With Airtasker, you may be charged a cancellation fee, but you must explain the exact reason why you wanted to cancel to ensure the proper fee is applied.

On the other hand, booking a team of two or more is easy on the Moving Help Marketplace. Plus, you will never be charged a cancellation fee.

Moving Help vs. Bellhop®

Bellhop works similarly to Moving Help, where you input a date and location to find movers.

With Bellhop movers, you don’t have the choice to go with any moving company that you want. They select your movers for you.  You are given the costs for the move and a service fee. On top of that, you don’t know who is going to move your belongings when you reserve. With Moving Help, you are never charged a service fee — only the Refundable Marketplace Fee.

How Bellhop works is you put in your moving information, and Bellhop provides you with a moving company and a set price. You do not get to choose the moving company you are provided — it’s chosen for you. You are also charged a non-refundable service fee that covers the transportation costs of your movers.

With Bellhop, you also need to pay a 10 percent deposit of your estimated cost, and it’ll be charged 48 hours after booking your labor-only movers. If you book less than 48 hours before your moving time, you will be charged when you book. Bellhop also doesn’t give you the actual cost of what your total move would be, only an estimate. This hold is placed on your account before your move happens, then the actual amount is charged after the move, potentially costing you more.

If you cancel your move within 72 hours of your moving date, Bellhop also charges a $200 cancellation fee. You will also forfeit the 10 percent deposit paid.

In contrast, Moving Help does not charge a deposit. Moving Help charges you after you book, but your funds are put into an escrow account.

Your Moving Help Service Providers are only paid until after the job is completed, and you’re 100 percent satisfied. You release the funds by giving your provider your 6-digit Payment Code.

Moving Help also does not charge a cancellation fee, so you can reserve your Moving Help worry-free.

Moving Help delivery with loading and unloading allows for a U-Box® portable storage containers to be delivered and loaded on a street-legal trailer, giving you a more flexible moving experience.
