How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2018 Honda Pilot

To add a trailer hitch to a 2018 Honda Pilot you will need a handful of tools, a Draw-Tite 75225 trailer hitch and about 20 minutes to complete the installation. Follow these basic steps to start hauling all sorts of hitch-mounted accessories with your Honda Pilot today.

About the Draw-Tite 75225

The Draw-Tite 75225 is a class 4, bolt-on trailer hitch designed for the 2018 Honda Pilot. The hitch has a max trailer weight of 6,000 lb. and max tongue weight of 900 lb. There is no drilling or welding required for this installation.

Tools needed:

  • 22m socket
  • Power drill
  • 5-inch extension
  • Exhaust removal wrench
  • Torque wrench

2018 Honda Pilot hitch installation steps

1. Position the hitch

Using a second pair of hands, raise the hitch into position so that the weld nuts and attachment holes are lined up. There are three on each side. Note that if your Honda Pilot has a full-size spare tire, you may need to lower it using the provided tools before attaching the hitch.

2. Attach the hardware

With the hitch in position, install the M14 bolts and conical washers in all six weld nuts. The teeth on the conical washers should be facing the hitch. Tighten each bolt by hand first, then use the 22mm socket and 5-inch extension to secure the bolts.

3. Lower the exhaust (if necessary)

If the passenger side bolts are partially blocked by the exhaust, you can lower the exhaust using the exhaust pliers. Push the isolator rod from the rubber exhaust hanger directly above the tailpipe. You may need to use soapy water to loosen the rod.

4. Torque the hitch

Torque each bolt to 139 ft. lb. using the torque wrench fitted with the 22mm socket. The torque wrench should make a clicking sound after the correct amount of torque has been applied.

5. Raise the exhaust (if necessary)

If you lowered the exhaust, reinstall the isolator rod in the rubber exhaust hanger to raise the exhaust back in place.

Once installed, the hitch should measure:

  • 13 ¾ in. from the ground to the top of the receiver
  • 3 ¾ in. from the pin hole to the end of the bumper

You should now have your Draw-Tite 75225 trailer hitch installed on your 2018 Honda Pilot.
