Hyundai Tucson Hitch Installation Steps
1. Remove Rear Trim Panel
To start the hitch installation process, our first step will be to remove the rear trim panel located underneath the vehicle’s bumper. This panel is attached with five push pins and three 14mm screws which will need to be removed. We will remove the plastic push pins with our flathead screwdriver. And the 14mm screws will be removed with our power drill and 14mm socket. This panel will not be re-installed.
2. Lower the Exhaust
Our next step will be to lower the vehicle’s exhaust. To do this, we will be removing the passenger-side exhaust hanger. We will use exhaust pliers to detach the hangar from the vehicle’s frame.
3. Line Up Hitch With Frame
With the underbody of the vehicle prepped, we can now line up and raise the hitch into its proper position.
4. Install Hardware
Once we have the hitch lined up, we can start installing our provided hardware. On each side of the vehicle, three bolts and washers will need to be installed. We will hand-tighten these into the hitch to get them all in place.
5. Tighten and Torque Bolts
With all of our hardware installed, we can tighten and torque to properly secure the hitch to the frame. We will be torquing according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
6. Re-Install Exhaust
The final step in this hitch installation process will be to re-install the exhaust we lowered before installing the hitch. To re-install, we will simply attach the passenger side exhaust hanger we previously removed.
You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Hyundai Tucson.

The 4- way connector has basic lighting functions (running lights, brake lights, turn signal) while the 7-way connector adds a 12-volt circuit, circuit for electric trailer brakes, and reverse lights.
