Subaru Forester (2019-2024) hitch installation steps

1. Remove the Exhaust

Prior to installing the hitch, we will need to prep the vehicle for the hitch. Starting by removing the exhaust. Support the exhaust with straps so it doesn’t fall when removing the exhaust hangers.

2. Remove the underbody panel

Remove the underbody panels and the adjacent heat shields.

3. Prep vehicle attachment points

Remove the rubber plugs found on the attachment points. The center hole will need to be enlarged for the provided hardware to fit. Use the power drill with the step bit to enlarge the attachment point. Repeat process on each side of the vehicle.

4. Install the hardware

With the access holes drilled, the hardware is ready to be placed. Feed the carriage bolts into place using fish wire.

5. Raise hitch into place

With the hardware in place, you can now raise the hitch into position. Be sure to feed the fish wire through the hitch’s attachment points so the bolts won’t get pushed back into the frame.

6. Tighten and Torque the hitch

After the hitch is in place, remove the fish wire and replace them with the flange nuts provided. Once complete, use the 19mm socket with the 5” extension to tighten and torque all hardware to the manufacturer’s specifications.

7. Re-install Exhaust and Underbody panel

With the hitch installation complete, don’t forget to re-install the removed exhaust and underbody panel.

You should now have your trailer hitch installed on your Subaru Forester.
