U-Box Cross-Border Important Information
Please read the below information about your cross-border U-Box move.
If you are moving from Canada to the US:
Please note that the customer listed as the primary on the customs forms must be in the United States before the shipping process can begin. “Shipping process” is the act of arranging a shipping carrier for the pickup of your container(s) from the origin U-Box location.
Please be advised that once the U-Box Container(s) ship from the origin U-Box location, they can arrive at any time prior to the estimated arrival date. This is why it is crucial that you are already in the US before we can begin shipping.

If you are moving from the US to Canada:
Please note that the customer listed as the primary on the customs forms must be in Canada before the shipping process can begin. “Shipping process” is the act of arranging a shipping carrier for the pickup of your container(s) from the origin U-Box location.
Please be advised that once the U-Box Container(s) ship from the origin U-Box location, they can arrive at any time to the bonded warehouse for self-clearance. This is why it is crucial that you are already in Canada before we can begin shipping.
When the U-Box container(s) have crossed the border, they will be sent to a Canadian bonded warehouse. Upon arrival you will be notified via email with instructions on how and where to complete the self-clearance process. A 48-hour time frame will be provided in order for you to clear your goods. If the U-Box container(s) are not cleared within the given time frame, you may be subject to charges of up to $150/day for storage.
To clear your goods, you will need to present your current identification and the original copies of the customs paperwork.
- You may be subject to a clearance fee (duties, taxes, etc.) at customs. The more detailed your paperwork is, the less likely your U-Box container(s) will be detained/delayed
- Once you have received the customs release stamp, you will need to send a copy of the stamped document as proof that your container has cleared customs to crossborder@ubox.com
After this has been received, your container will be scheduled for delivery from the bonded warehouse and the shipping carrier will bring it to the destination U-Box location.
