Container rental fee: This is what you pay to rent the container for a 30-day rental period. If you rent 2 U-Box containers at a container fee of $99, that would be $198 per month.
Delivery fee: On your quote, you'll see two delivery fees, one that covers delivery and pickup at your origin location and another that covers delivery and pickup at your final destination.
Gentle Ride Shipping fee: This is what you pay to get your items shipped from point A to point B.
(Optional) SafeHaul® and SafeStor® Coverage: Optional cost to cover the value of your belongings in the event of damage.
(Optional) Moving Help: Optional cost for local Service Providers to load/unload the U-Box container.

How Does the U-Box Delivery Option Impact Pricing?
At U-Haul, we offer multiple delivery options for your U-Box containers so you get more flexibility and control when it comes to your move. No other moving container company offers as many delivery options, nor do any others offer free delivery options. When creating your quote, there are four delivery options to choose from that will change the total cost of your move:
- We Deliver – A U-Haul team member will deliver your containers to your door on the day that you choose. You pack/unpack your U-Box container, and we’ll pick it up to store or ship it to your destination. This is recommended when you have multiple containers.
- This cost depends on what city/state where your U-Box container is delivered and picked up. Typically, this cost ranges from $79-$129.
- Delivery with Loading – You pick local professional movers in your area through Moving Help®, they deliver, load/unload, and return your U-Box to a local U-Haul center to be stored or shipped. Moving Help Service Providers don’t get paid until the job is done properly. Delivery with loading is a great option for 1 or 2 containers.
- This cost depends on what city/state where your U-Box container is delivered and picked up, and the cost of Moving Help Service Providers. The average cost is between $250-$450 USD ($321-$585 CAD).
- Self-Delivery – At your nearest U-Haul location, you can pick up your U-Box® containers at your convenience for free! If you need to rent a truck or install a hitch to do so, U-Haul is here to help. You pack it and drop it off whenever you need. As always, we’ll do the rest for you.
- Access at a U-Haul Location – Find the U-Haul location closest to you and load your U-Box for free there. You pack on-site, and we’ll store or ship your belongings.
How do U-Box payments work?
U-Box payments are broken into several charges that are billed at different stages of your move. Here’s how it works:
Container delivery (Where your move starts): You’ll be charged for the first month’s container rental, delivery fees, and Safestor® storage insurance (if selected) on the morning of delivery.
Monthly rental fees: If your move spans more than one month, the container rental fee will be billed monthly on the same date.
Shipping and transit: The shipping fee, along with SafeHaul® shipping insurance (if selected), will be charged five days before your container is scheduled to arrive at your destination.
Moving Help® services: If you book help for delivery, packing, or loading, you'll be charged at the time of reservation.
Moving supplies: Any moving boxes or packing supplies added to your order will also be charged at the time of reservation.

How do I modify or cancel my existing U-Box reservation?
You can make several updates to your U-Box reservation online or through the U-Haul app, such as changing your damage coverage, delivery and pickup dates, or the number of containers. If you need to cancel your reservation or need help making changes, just text 'help' to 1-800-664-5017, and a live U-Haul representative will be happy to assist you.
Where can U-Box containers be placed?
U-Box containers can be placed anywhere that’s flat, level, and accessible by a forklift. Most commonly, U-Box containers are placed in driveways, parking spaces, side yards, or curbside on a street and are designed to sit approximately six inches off the ground. If the U-Box container is on a trailer, it can be parked anywhere a vehicle can. Be sure to check with your city or HOA to confirm where container placement is allowed.
