I was asked at check in and while my customer information was being entered about the option of insurance waiver (CDW) . I specifically told the sales clerk I did NOT want the insurance. I thought he asked so he was going to enter that in his computer behind the counter. At drop off I was told that when I swiped my credit card that I had chosen insurance coverage and the check in clerk doesn't choose that for me. So basically, the system defaults to accepting coverage, as I do not remember being asked or selecting that after I swiped my card on the swipe machine screen (I thought the machine was merely using my credit card for hold !!. It should be mandated that the sales clerk tell customers that the option to decline collision waiver is NOT done behind the desk, but on the credit card machine !! If not told, it is very deceptive and misleading. Why would the sales clerk even have asked me if I wanted the insurance if he wasn't entering that behind the counter when he was getting my information.?! Your clerks should be required to disclose that the insurance waiver is done at the credit card swipe machine vs asking me if I wanted it !! It is not by mistake the insurance coverage is probably labeled CDW (collision damage waiver) and this options is paid by the customer as the default setting versus defaulting to no insurance. Perhaps this needs to be brought to the attention of the Better Business Bureau dealing with required sales disclosure and contract agreements. I trust I'm not nearly the only one deceived by this sales tactic....it is a known fact the insurance sales is a huge profit center ....

This may have been one of the worst customer service experience I have ever had. When making my reservation, I was told the hitch ball we had would fit the trailer I reserved. When I arrived to pick it up, it did not in fact fit. I was told I could buy one of yours (not rent along with the trailer). This meaning I would need to buy something I'd never use again, to use YOUR product. When I returned to your location, with a borrowed ball, your location was so short handed it took three times as long to sign my paper work and get on my way. No apologies were made foe the inaccurate information or trouble I went through, adding an hour on to my morning. I was not offered any compensation or way to make it better. I a, incredibly disappointed in this experience and will look elsewhere the next time I am in need of moving supplies.

We had used this uHaul facility a few times in the past and were always pleased with the ease and quality of their operation. This time was no different. It's a first rate company and one I would recommend to anyone needing help with a move. I would also mention the movers they arranged to load and unload the truck we rented for an in-city relocation. They sent us two men who just couldn't have been more professional, friendly and patient. They were hard workers who never complained and were good natured about my indecision as to where to place certain items. I will definitely request them again for any future moves.

I signed the contract as the truck having 3/4 of a tank of fuel. I got in the truck and it had between 1/4 and 1/2 a tank. Went in and explained and she wrote on my contract the amount that was actually in the truck but was obviously not recorded in the computer. Then today I got a charge on my account that I went over the mIles by over 200 miles. I went 101 miles total in all reality. I have a photo of the odometer to prove it. Yes the charge was reversed but what if I hadn't taken the photo? There needs to be a little better communication at the portland uhaul. Rumford [Gilman's Auto) on the other hand was excellent and Wil was great at his job and handled the situation perfectly and got the situation straightened right out.

After the close of business on Sunday evening, I reserved a trailer (online) for Monday morning pickup. I arrived at the store 45 minutes before the time I'd specified for pickup, and there were absolutely no problems. The trailer was hitched to my car, the paperwork filled out and signed and I was on my way at least 20 minutes before I was scheduled to pick the trailer up. The staff was very polite and helpful.

I picked the truck up fuel gauge read Full. Drove 16 miles and had to add 2.8 gallons of fuel to bring it back to Full. I spent $52.00 to rent a truck for $19.99.

I was treated very rudely by the rep that was trying to help me. She had no patience and challenged everything I said. She called a "manager" and they were laughing at me at my expense. The reason was because I was suppose to receive a $250.00 credit for a bad past experience. Also, the truck and trailer were not ready and I had a reservation.

Be sure the radio works in the vehicle. It was a relatively new truck (2500 miles) and the radio was non-operable. I have never had a problem w/ that before.

Trucks that were confirmed for pick up were not available . had to drive to another facility to get it. This was very inconvenient. Were very disappointed when you have confirmation then was available.

Check in was easy and quick, especially considering I was early. Vehicle was fine. Dropping off the vehicle was also easy and quick, especially considering I was later than the time I agreed to drop it off during the reservation. Showed up 10 mins to closing, had a vehicle ahead of me, and they still did the drop off and inspection with me there. The only thing I didn't like was that instead of the agreed upon $36 I was to be charged, my card was charged $75, with the excess returned after drop off. Nothing of this was mentioned during reservation, and could have been quite frustrating and embarrassing if I didn't have $75 that could be charged. This should have been clearly stated up front during reservation.

The women who rented me the truck was very unpleasant. Almost mean. When I asked the cubic feet of the truck she became upset and gave me a brochure to figure it out on my own. I tried to come prepared but it was my first time renting one and I had a few questions. She treated me with no respect it was awful. The rest of the staff was knowledgeable and pleasant.

The 26' U-Haul truck sucked! Bald tires, trouble accelerating on I-95, jerky / shuddering, wondered if it had transmission issue. Sputtered coming off ramp, shut down ~3 miles later. Got it going again. On way to return it, shuddering and sparks flying out tailpipe (it was dark out so I could see them in the mirror), shut down on interstate. Doesn't like going over 55 mph even when empty. Rented a 17' 3 weeks prior that was good though.

I put yes on the equipment was clean, but with the exception that we are non smokers and the cabin had a strong smoke odor. The ashtray was full and I had to empty it. Non-smoking vehicle options would be fabulous.

Returning the vehicle took entirely too long. No one offered a "we'll be with you in a moment" or "sorry for the wait". In fact, 4 people were moving boxes around the store when only 2 were behind the counter. As there were pallets of boxes everywhere, the focus could have been on the people waiting. Unfortunate. How it goes sometimes.

The customer service at this location is the real problem. Not a single smile, hello, or any other gesture of kindness/politeness from a single employee. Standing at the counter for 10 minutes, waiting for an employee to figure out how to rent you a truck wouldn't be so bad if the employees treated you with an iota of common human courteousy.

as always, a fantastic experience with the U-Haul on Marginal Way. i've had an incredibly stressful few months, including a recent and abrupt shift in living situation as well as a broken foot - and after reading on the website that there were no storage rooms available, i panicked. morning of my move, your kind and courteous general manager said otherwise. he put me instantly at ease. not to mention a friendly employee helped me back the truck into the area to unload, and finally, the person helping me check out even offered to call me a cab. i've done business with this location for the past 10 years while living in Portland, and i wouldn't go anywhere else. thank you, again and again, for making this stressful time smoother.

I was given a truck that hadn't been fully maintenanced, so I had to wait another 10 min for a new truck. Not a huge deal in the scheme of things, but I feel like it should have been noticed.

The people were very friendly and helpful. The truck however, leaked in "Mom's attic" and some of the boxes and contents got wet. The middle seat belt was stuck under the seat, so we had to drive in very unsafe conditions. The truck was very clean though. The line to pick up the truck was out the door, seems more help was needed. Also, I don't expect a company that specializes in moving to keep running out of boxes.
