U-Haul Transforming Vacant Warehouse into South Asheville Store
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 3, 2016) — Residents of South Asheville seeking more convenient moving and self-storage solutions will soon have a newly renovated U-Haul facility to meet their needs.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of South Asheville at 3161 Sweeten Creek Road is now offering truck and trailer rentals, moving supplies, towing equipment and professional hitch installation, and U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers.
U-Haul acquired the formerly vacant 58,487-square-foot warehouse on June 15. Extensive renovations will soon render 900 indoor self-storage units (climate-controlled and non-climate controlled) with high-tech safety features. There will be propane on the 4.64-acre lot in the near future.
“We have one U-Haul store on the other side of town, but we have really been underserving South Asheville,” said Doug Weston, U-Haul Company of Western North Carolina president. “The building is located in an up-and-coming area that needs state-of-the-art moving and self-storage options.
“This building was constructed in 1967 and it is very sturdy. We have an opportunity to save on materials and costs, and make a positive environmental impact by choosing the sustainable route to save this structure rather than build from the ground up. I’m looking forward to the challenge of taking this property and turning it into a shining U-Haul facility.”
