Moving Over the Holidays

Christmas moving with U-Haul

Moving and holidays both can be exciting and stressful events. They were not meant to be done together; however, sometimes we have to move over the holidays. The advantage to moving over the holidays is the time off from work and school allowing you to do the packing, loading and moving. The disadvantage is we can lose the “celebrating” part of the holiday in the process. Here are some tips to help you celebrate the holidays in the midst of moving!

Plan A Celebrate the holiday at your house. How can you celebrate a holiday at your home when you are moving? Well, if you are planning a Do-It-Yourself move, then it can be a big challenge. However, if your tradition requires that you host the party, then designate one area of your house for the party (i.e., basement room, main room or upstairs area). Contain all the packing activity to another area that will not interfere with the festivities. (Definitely accept those who offer to help you clean up afterwards.)

Plan B – Celebrate the holiday at a family member or friend’s house.  This is probably the best option, because you can avoid the burden of hosting the party but have the benefit of all the fun with family and friends. Just don’t forget to help out! Pro tip: If you exchange presents, you can ask your family member or friend for a “moving” gift, that will make your life so much easier! Especially if your family member or friend is unable to help you move.

Plan CCelebrate the holiday at a hotel. Granted, this might be an undesirable option, but it is better than not celebrating the holiday at all. Plus, a hotel has extra accommodations you may not have at your house — heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, room service, etc…

Plan A, B & CHire Moving Helpers — This is one plan that you can be applied to all above plans to make your move over the holidays the least stressful and most enjoyable for you and your family.  Moving Helpers  can provide packing help, unpacking help, loading help, unloading help, driving help and even cleaning help. Work smarter, not harder over the holidays. If you think you can’t afford it, you should check out the prices! The average cost to load a moving truck is as low as $149.00.

Enjoy the holidays even if you are moving. You only get one chance to make great memories each holiday.
