It’s that time of year again where people come together, exchange gifts and feast with family and friends. Though it’s easy to get caught up in the holiday season, don’t forget that there are those who are less fortunate. Some people don’t get the chance to have a grand turkey dinner or exchange gifts with loved ones. This is the holiday season, take some time and give back to the community. There is always a way to give back to the community. You can put the “happy” in Happy Holidays by doing the simple things this year.
Donate a turkey.
Turkey drives seems to be going on everywhere around this time of the year. Check your local grocery store or just do a simple Google search to find your local Turkey Drive. Donate a turkey and make a family’s day.
Volunteer at a charity.
Volunteer at your local food bank. They need all the help they can get around the holidays. These are the busiest days of the year for everyone. Head over to the nearest food bank and tell them you just want to help out. They will always have something for you do whether it be cooking meals, cleaning or bringing out food to people.
Set aside an extra plate.
Your family is already preparing an enormous meal, it doesn’t hurt to set aside a plate for someone who may not have a Thanksgiving meal. But why settle for just one plate? Throw some turkey and mashed potatoes in tupperware, fill up a box and go for a drive. Drop the box off in an area where you know homeless people tend to reside. If you live in area with a smaller homeless population, check your local food bank and see if they accept pre-cooked meals.
There are always ways to give back to the community and it doesn’t have to be the holidays for you to do it. Your charity efforts can make a big difference not just for one family but also for the community as a whole. So when you’re going about your business this holiday season, remember that help is always needed and any day is a good day to give back.
