Are you the “out of sight, out of mind” kind of person? There’s no shame in it, lots of us are. But when it comes to caring for your home, being a little mindful might be best. Sure we all dust and put away the dishes, but there are probably a few spots that you completely miss and you don’t even realize it! Here are some of the things in your home that are important to clean that you might be missing:
Carpets
Sure we all probably whip out the Rug Doctor maybe once a year, but did you know that if you have children or pets, you really should be cleaning your carpets three to four times a year? Carpets can catch dirt, pet hair and human skills cells which act as food for dust mites and molds. Just because you don’t see them, doesn’t mean they are there! Also, if you suffer from respiratory issues like asthma, allergies or cold-like symptoms, cleaning your carpets more often could help.
Cleaning carpets does require some effort on your part, but if you plan well than it should be easy. You can rent a Rug Doctor from most U-Haul locations. You may also want to consider storing your belongings in a U-Box container during the process.
Closet
This is the perfect opportunity to not only do some cleaning, but also clean out those clothing items that you haven’t used in ages; you can even donate them here. Similar to the carpet, the back of your closet can become a home to pests and mold. Be sure to vacuum or wipe it down with a good disinfectant. Because you may choose to use chemicals, be sure to store those clothing items that you want to keep in a wardrobe box during the process.
Other Spots to Keep in Mind
There are areas in your house that you touch on a daily basis that you probably don’t think about. Here are some other areas that need a good wipe down every once in a while:
- Sink drains
- Door knobs
- Hand rails on stairs
- Washing machines
- Ceiling Fans
- Refrigerators
