Moving to IndianapolisSo you are moving to the “Racing Capital of the World”? Indianapolis is home to the Indianapolis 500 also known as the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”. Indy is home to the Colts (NFL), Pacers (NBA), and Indians (MLB). An Indianapolitan will surely let you know who to root for. Indianapolis is the 14th largest city in the U.S.

Neighborhoods

Indy has several great historic neighborhoods that have plenty to offer. If a cultural scene is what you are looking for check out Massachusetts Avenue, Carmel, Wholesale District, or Broad Ripple Village. If you historical neighborhoods are your cup of tea check out: Chatham Arch, Fletcher Place, and Lockerbie Square Historic District. Maybe you are moving to Indy for the business districts; check the Downtown area or Woodruff Place.

Things to do

  • Take a stroll along the Canal which features European style bridges, gondolas, Indiana State Museum and the NCAA Hall of Fame.
  • Check out the historic City Market for wine, cheese, beer, and retail shop vendors.
  • Take a ride down the Cultural Trail which is a walking or bike path that connects the city’s five downtown Cultural Districts
  • Obviously a race is in order, but take in a Colt’s game at Lucas Oil Stadium or check out fireworks night at Victory Field after an Indian’s game.
  • Also the art districts in Indy offer plenty to see and explore

Getting around

Indianapolis has several interstates and highways that make it easy to drive your moving truck with the I-465 looping around the city and county. Indy has a good public transit system of buses, light rail and and commuter rails. Amtrak also has a station in Indy to get you to Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelphia, or NYC.

Weather

Indianapolis offers you all four seasons! Be prepared for the warm Summers, fluctuating temps in Spring and Fall, and snow in the Winter. You may want to think about storing your seasonal items to keep your place clutter free.
