If you’re planning a wedding, there’s a lot to do. If you choose the DIY approach, you have to organize every detail. The good news is, there are several ways to get everything to your venue on the big day. Here’s how to transport your DIY wedding decorations and essentials:
Flowers and Things
Whether you host a simple backyard wedding or an elaborate ballroom celebration, you’ll have decorations. Depending on how large your wedding is, you may not have a way to transport them. U-Haul cargo vans and pickup trucks are great solutions for moving those items safely and efficiently. A few things you might transport are:
- Flowers
- Centerpieces
- Drapes
- Tablecloths
- Dishes
- Silverware
- Place cards
Even for small weddings, having all of these things at each table can add up. It’s best to transport your DIY wedding items in an organized and safe fashion. Some of the items listed above can be fragile, and things like flower arrangements should stay upright. U-Haul cargo vans come equipped with tie downs and rub rails, so you can secure your decorations for a safe ride. Also, moving supplies like a glass pack kit or cushion foam can protect your dishes and décor from damage.
Food and Drinks
Other than the ceremony, we all know what your wedding guests look forward to—the food! Once again, a pickup truck or cargo van could be your solution. Even if your food is being catered, beverages alone can take up a lot of space. Of course, you have your cake as well! You can load up your:
- Appetizers
- Main Course
- Cake or other pastries
- Beverages
- Glasses
- Napkins
If you’re transporting your own food, be sure to handle it safely. Keep cold and hot foods at the proper temperatures before setting them out, and discard them after 4 hours.
Dresses and Tuxedos
A cargo van is a great option for transporting your wedding party’s attire. You’ll want the enclosed space to protect those precious garments from outside elements. The last thing you need on your wedding day is a dirty dress or tuxedo! Load up your cargo van with:
- Bride/bridesmaid dresses
- Veil
- Groom/groomsmen tuxedos
- Dress shoes
- Jewelry
If you don’t have stylists, you can also pack your makeup supplies and hair-styling appliances for the whole wedding party!
Tables, Chairs and More
Some of your wedding items will take up a lot of space. If you decide on an outdoor wedding, your venue may be lacking appropriate seating or even an altar. This is where U-Haul moving trucks come in. You can rent anywhere from a 10’ to a 26’ truck to transport your large, heavy items. You may need to move:
- Umbrellas
- Tables
- Chairs
- Altar
- Heating lamps and propane tanks (winter wedding)
Gifts
After your wedding, you’ll probably have quite a few gifts to sort through. That’s not such a bad problem to have, but it does mean you’ll have to make room for them. The good news is most of your gifts should already be in boxes or bags, so all you have to do is load them up. You can utilize a cargo van or pickup truck to transport these to your home. A cargo van would be ideal for transporting lighter items. If you choose a pickup truck, just be sure to secure everything in the bed. If you receive more bulky presents, a pickup truck will be up to the task!
Once you get home and get a chance to open your gifts, you’ll have an idea of what you really need among them. If there are certain things you just don’t have space for, consider renting a storage unit to hold them in safely.
