If convenience is something you strive for in life, then you may have considered living near public transportation. Although living near public transportation is ideal, there are a couple things to keep in mind when searching for a home.public transportation

Living near public transportation is not cheap.

Especially when living in the city, finding a home near public transportation often times means paying a little extra in rent and utilities. Rental prices in the city tend to fluctuate, so be sure to keep that in mind when finding a home near public transportation. Keep in mind you might be paying extra fees such as trash valet, recycling fee and sewer fees. Convenience comes with a price but it might just be worth it!

Benefits of Living Near Public Transportation:

  • It’s convenient getting to and from places
  • Saving gas, saving money, saving the environment
  • Living by public transportation often means you’re by main attractions (i.e. museums, sports fields, malls, restaurants)

Keep these safety precautions in mind after you have moved in:

Living by a transit station means there is a high volume of people walking to and from the station. Stay safe with these tips:

  • Always check that your front and back door is locked and bolted at night
  • Close and lock all windows when you are not home
  • Be aware of your surroundings when walking home from the transit station
  • If you have headphones in, make sure your music is turned down low enough as to not distract you from any suspicious sounds or sights
  • Keep pepper spray on your key chain and in public view when walking home
  • Be careful what information you disclose over the phone on public transportation. Other people on the transit can eavesdrop and use your information maliciously
  • Investing in a security system for your home will keep you and your belongings safe
