I ended up going to both U-Haul locations in Ames, CSL and the Duff Ave location. Both locations were fantastic! I needed to make a last minute change to my rental and the General Manager at the Duff location helped me edit the reservation even though I ended up renting from a different location. And the CSL location made it so easy to rent the dolly and helped to get it all setup. In and out in under 30 minutes.

I went into Ames UHaul 5/19 requesting a 15 foot truck for Saturday 5/23. Jay was very nice and super helpful!!! I requested to look at the truck because I am 4’11 105 lbs. The truck I looked at was suitable for my small stature. However, the truck assigned on Saturday was old and the dash was so high I could not see adequately over it. I had to have my son drive. Also, the seal on the windows was bad and the alignment was bad. Not fun for a 400 mile road trip.

The service I received from Cycle Source Logistics was great. They were friendly, helpful and got me in-and-out with my rental quickly. That said, the trailer I rented (Unit UV 3407 B) had a wheel/tire issue. At freeway speeds (above 50mph) the trailer would shake and rattle violently, transmitting noise and vibration into my tow vehicle. The trailer had newer looking tires and I suspect they were not balanced properly. this all made my 6-hour drive miserable. I hope this can be inspected and corrected before the next rental so that someone else is not affected by this condition.

The person who did my contract at time of pick up did not go over anything with me. I did not want the safe tow, I did not have it on my reservation, yet I was charged. I was told as long as I turned it in by the end of the day (not business day) I would not be charged extra. I was charged an extra day. The app did not complete my return, I attempted it 4 times. I sat at the return location for an hour and a half trying to complete the return in the app. I went in the next day and called twice. I was told I would be refunded for the second day and the safe tow. I did see the refund for one safe tow. However I was still charged a complete second day including another safe tow. This is why I stopped using U-Haul years ago and always referred people to Penske.

What I did not like was the addition charge, the email said it was left off at a wrong location. When we filled out the information the people were ok with us taking the trailer to Des Moines. So why were we charged a fee??

Pick up process and drop off process was complicated due to a failed link for pictures and such. Broken parts in the trailer caused trouble moving our items without worry.

Put an entrance or U haul sign or on the door because all doors say "Authorized Personel only" So I circled 2 buildings looking for a way in until an Employee who just happened to be outside hooking up a trailer showed me where to enter. Get updated with U Hauls policies. Staff was awesome, friendly and willing to go above and beyond to serve the customer.

The drop-off location was closed but the check in process and key drop was clear and quick.
