I called looking for a 16-ft trailer and I was told that you had 15-ft trailers. I drove all the way down there just to find out you have no trailers and that I would have to drive a fair distance to get a trailer that would not fit the size that I need. I ended up renting a truck because that's all you had at that location despite what your employees told me over the phone and it was a total loss for me because the truck was not big enough for the piece of lumber that I needed to haul. I have a lot to say about my experience with U-Haul. I had a confirmed reservation for a 15' U-Haul truck to be picked up at 2:00pm July 31. Given the truck rental was essential, the night before our move (July 30 @ 5:57pm) I called directly to the pick up location to verify our truck would be ready at the reserved time slot for the next day. I spoke with "Rick" at Ibox Self Storage Gartrell, who informed me that they did not have a truck for me. He advised me to call the 1800gouhaul to discuss the problem directly with U-Haul. So why didn't U-Haul call me to notified me that they did not have a truck for my reservation? ugh Needless to say, I called U-Haul (still July 30, now 5:52pm) and the representative also told me that there were zero trucks available for my rental day in any of the surrounding areas of Denver, ending the 32 min phone call with I'm sorry we just don't have any other options. Which brings us to my moving day, July 31, and no moving truck. A little after my 2:00pm reserved pick up time, I notice that my UHAUL reservation was still in my account and tied to my credit card so I called back Ibox Self Storage Gartrell (July 31 @ 2:17pm) to confirm that my credit card was not going to be charged for my truck rental that they didn't have. I spoke with "Orion" and she informed me that YES they did have the truck that I reserved... GOOD GREIF, between excited to have a truck for our move and angry frustration that no one called me to tell me that they had the truck I reserved or for that matter that no one could figure out why or where the truck I reserved was, very frustrating. Needless to say we immediately went to Ibox Self Storage Gartrell to pick up our rental truck and called U-Haul to update them on the situation. Given the situation the U-Haul representative changed our rental pick up time to 3:00pm. Once at the pick up location, at no fault of Orian's we waiting in line as she helped people other customers ahead of us and finally had possession of the moving truck at 4:00pm July 31. Orian informed us that the truck just barely had 1/4 tank of gas so we immediately went to fill up the tank; 27.gallons of regular unleaded gas was $95.00. Little did we understand in the moment that our reaction to the fear of piking up a moving truck with an almost empty gas scared us into filling the tank "full" of gas inevitably leaving the fuel level much fuller then when we rented it. My input to U-Haul is Moving trucks should always start off with at least a 1/2 or 3/4 full tank of gas when rented so not to alarm a person renting a large truck. Extra and clear communication is essential with the understanding that the majority of your clients are in the moment of high stress as they are moving.Amy M.

Make sure your renters aren't smoking in the cab and make it a very clear rule which, if broken, results in a fine. If they try to return the truck and you notice it smells like smoke, charge them a stupid amount of money to 1) fine them for breaking the rules and 2) put toward the detail shop getting the smell out. My experience with U-Haul was really great. The employee was helpful and made suggestions to improve my rental plan. He was friendly and very pleasant to work with. My only suggestion is to open as published. I was at the site at 8:55 knowing it opened at 9a. The lights were not on and the business was not ready for business until after 9a. I had people waiting at my house for the truck to arrive at 9:30. I was late. Everything worked out after that but I was expecting to get started right at 9a. Thank you for being helpful and pleasant to work with during a stressful time.KAREN B.
