Maybe, more selection of trucks to pick from

I spoke with U-haul employee Michelle (who was fantastic) about my up-coming rental and she told me that there will be someone at the pick-up location that will help me with the trailer connections. When I asked if I had all the right wires or hitch requirements, she said "Oh, no problem, they will take care of all of that for you" and make sure it is properly hitched and connected" and she said they will make sure it is all properly connected. The Roman Petroeum Conoco was a poorly managed U-Haul location. There was no one there to "check in" with. I arrived at the gas station and went inside the gas station office (with a U-Haul sign in the window) and found a young college-age man sitting behind a desk with his feet up on a foot stool. He wasn't to friendly (didn't welcome me or ask me how he could help with the rental), he just told me to call a phone number and work it out with the older man on the other end. Maybe it was his boss? The man on the phone told me to download the U-haul app (which I didn't want to do) so that I could use it to upload a photo of my driver's license. Why? To validate that I have a license? Why wasn't he there in person to verify my license? Why wasn't someone there (in person) representing U-haul to welcome the customers? It is irritating that a customer has to do this remotely instead of in person.. I placed the call on Speaker Phone so I could work with the mobile app. The photo-taking function of the app didn't work after repeated attempts and it couldn't upload the picture of my license. The man on the phone call then spoke in an Indian language to the young man in the office, and gave him instruction in another language. The young man took the photo with his phone and someone sent it to the other man. This is just not a good look for U-haul. When the "paper work" was all taken care of, I was told that I was free to go get the trailer. The young man at the desk didn't want out there with me, he didn't assist me with the trailer hitch, electrical connection, chains, or anything else. He didn't inspect to make sure everything was in proper order. He as pumping gas for a customer. I eventually waived him over and asked his assistance. It didn't look like he knew what he was doing. He didn't seem to know how to connect the metal chains. He wrapped them around the tongue twice, and then connected them to the hitch points, crossing over the top of the tongue. He did the same with the second chain. The chains should have passed below the tongue when attaching to the truck. I don't think he did this before. He didn't open the trailer to inspect it and make sure it was clean, and the door properly worked. Once he connected the last chain, he walked back to the gas pump. He wasn't even going to check that the tail lights of the trailer were properly working (running lights, brake lights, left signal and right signal). I had to ask him about it, as if it wasn't his job. He did it, and it all worked. So that is my first trailer experience, and my first experience renting a trailer from U-haul, and first time using that location.

It took a long time for them to serve us when we got there. They said they didn't have a truck available in the size that I booked, then brought one over. The moving blankets and dolly in expected were not inside. It seems like they were hesitant to give it to me because the battery was bad, and it wouldn't start when I went to return it.

The location of my rental was switched to a location farther away which added about 10 miles round trip that I was billed for.

The trailer I rented was a little dirty and beat up and it must have had a bad tire on it. My truck shimmied during the whole two hour trip north and back.

The customer experience was excellent. My truck was ready when I arrived with the equipment that i wanted to help with moving. When I returned the truck, the guy who received it allowed me to just hand in the keys. Overall, it was a very positive experience: easy and organized and inexpensive and friendly. Thank you

Was soo crowded with vehicles and had no clue where to park the vehicle.

There was no tongue Jack on the trailer which resulted in a major inconvenience! The location to hook up the trailer upon both picking up and dropping off was surrounded by so many other vehicles making it very difficult to navigate in backing up to pick up and drop off. Shoukd be a clear lane to do both not an obstacle course!!!

The truck was extremely dirty. So dirty I think I need a tetanus shot. In addition, I returned the truck with a full tank of gas and they charged me for two gallons which I will be disputing. The week before the same location gave me a truck and overstated the gas tank by 1/8 of a tank which I immediately went back in and advised them of their error. I returned it with 1/4 of a tank. Again another dirty truck.

The attendent was on his cell phone the entire time and would not help us hook up the trailer. The trailer had a flat tire and I had to argue with the attendant to get the other trailer on the lot. He still would not help me turn the trailer around so it could be hitched. I had to hook the safety cable to my truck and drag it around so it could be hitched. I got no assistance at all from them. When I returned the trailer the attendant stayed on his cell phone the entire time and refused to help me unhitch the trailer. This was the worst Uhaul dealer I have ever used and I will never use this location again.

They didn’t explain anything, got charged an extra 150 dollars for gas even though it was majority the way full.

I waited over an hour for the only guy working there who was capable of doing U-Haul paperwork. I had a 10 am pick up and he came back to shop at 11:10. I was not happy I had people waiting for me

The truck was never cleaned out, we we had to pay for gas that the last person used it didn’t fill it back up, the ramp on the truck was broken when it was given to us and I have a video and we had to wait over an hour so we can move our truck and leave

Everything went smoothly and quickly. The gentleman was very helpful and knowledgeable. My day was successful. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone.

The only thing I would recommend , would be equipment that can lift the trailer tongue on to the renters hitch. The attendant and I had to lift it together to get it on my truck, upon return the attendant was busy and I had to un-hitch myself. Those 12’ trailers are too heavy for manual lifting.

no i would not!!!!!! ..i have used this location before with no problems. this time it was just 1 problem after another. even with a registration set 5 days earlier. no knowledgeable person there to help with rental..just a guy who pumps fas. the furniture dollt was not in truck just a hand trucker. terrible with get keys and we missed out first pick up because of tge tume spent trying to rent the truck. i had to inspect the truck by myself and upload the pictured of tag, outside of truck and check everything by myself no one came to the truck with me. i am older and i dont know all the new phone stuff. very bad experience and will.not retyrn to this location.

Total breakdown in renting this truck made reservations for an early key pick up got to location no key! Had to go to another rental location to get truck costing me a lot of time!

As we migrate into the 'Amazon assumes control of most of UHaul's 9' cargo vans" I hope the public get to suffer over the Holidays. Other than that my experience with UHaul recently was very good

The van wasn't ready, there was no attendant at the store when I arrived, even after calling and confirming the reservation over the phone. I had to wait for thirty minutes for the gas station attendant to call his manager to find out what to do. There was also no dropbox for returns, I took pictures and did the return via the mobile app, but I am sure that based on my experience with this location I will be disputing any additional charges due to any retaliation from this location based on this review.

I recently rented a UHaul and was quoted at roughly $158 +/- for 2 days and a dozen blankets to move from one place within a town to another within the same town. The clerk stated that extra days were to be charged at $29.95 - nothing else. No warning of insurance increases, blanket costs per day, federal charges per day, etc. I had the vehicle for 9 total days and drove FOURTEEN total miles. My expectation was that I would owe an additional $29.99 x 7 days for the extra days for a total of around $270. NOPE! $606!! Not only was I charged $90.00 ($10 per day) for the moving blankets I never even touched, but the insurance went from $30 to $135 and the $45.00 state fee which was never explained to me. Not only that, I informed the clerk that my credit card I originally used did not have enough credit on there to run the now $606 total and that I would run home and grab another card. What did he do AGAINST my permission? He ran the card, my credit card company allowed the charge to go through and I got charged a $45.00 over-credit-limit fee and my credit rating dropped due to the usage. I am appalled at this specific store and the way I felt deceived over the additional charges totaling nearly $350.00. Will never use UHaul again.

I called the number to tell them about the drop off. They kept putting me on hold to 4 diffrent Maryland locations. I was in new jersey. Finally the kind women in the Hyattsvill location helped me out

The man inside was helping another customer, but quickly and pleasantly took my keys so I could be on my way. My only complaint is that I received multiple voicemails and emails reminding me to return my truck hours after I dropped it off. I returned the truck and trailer at 9:30am, but it appears it hadn’t been processed until after 2:30pm. I don’t mind, as long as everything is sorted… but it was a bit concerning. I’ve dealt with this location before and always had a positive experience, so I’ll still definitely return.
