The staff were friendly and helpful and the location was well organized and clean.
Wayne EI used to rent here all the time but the process of checking in/out has become a hassle. They are chronically understaffed. Personnel do the best they can but it is not easy to get in/out. Also, I was told that they no longer have pick up trucks (due to theft) and I could not rent a van with an out of state license. ????? That seemed very strange. I ended up with a truck that was too big for my needs. Consumed more gasoline that I wanted. Sadly, I will most likely not rent here anymore.

Letisha J | First ImpressionsI called this location to ask how to order more than one truck. The rep (female, no name given) absolutely hissed at me. I said I didn't understand and she snapped, "I just told you!" Rather than make the reservations for me, she told me to make three, separate online reservations and hung up on me. The website was buggy and made two reservations in one name, so we had four reservations, instead of three. That driver called to cancel one, was told he was all set, but when we arrived to pick up the trucks, we still had four reservations. The equipment I ordered was not in the truck and when I went back to the "service" desk, I was told I had to go and get it myself from two different locations. I wasn't told this when I signed in. The clerk made it sound like I should have known. We three all said that we would be returning at 8:00 p.m. No one told us that the desk closed at 7:00 p.m., so when we arrived at 7:02 p.m., no one was at the return station and there was a line of 5 abandoned trucks, not counting our three. A clerk looked out the window at us and walked back from view. There is no way that all of those trucks arrived back after 7:00 p.m. There was a sign that said to scan a QR code and mark the trucks as returned or face a fee. We all three tried the QR code, but all it did was load your app. The app didn't have a place to check in. It just encouraged us to make reservations. There was a place on the app to sign in, but that didn't work. I received several copies of receipts in my e-mail for two of the trucks, but none for the third. I won't have any idea what I was charged until my credit card statement arrives. All in all, a miserable experience not at all helped by a miserable staff. ALSO, shortly after that clerk looked out the window at us, there was a strong odor of burning marihuana. There was no one outside anywhere, so it had to be coming from inside. Wouldn't that just be the icing on the cake if no one checked in those trucks because they were more concerned with getting stoned as soon as the desk closed.
JOHN LPulled into drop off point read the signs waited a few minutes. Nobody responded went inside stood in line took over 20 minutes to drop off a 5 x 8 trailer. Unbelievable poor poor Service.
PATRICK DI didn't mind the wait but other customers complained of only one person working the counter. She had to leave to get pics of trailer hook ups and then come back to service others.

FREDERICK JThe first trailer had a light out so they put us with another trailer. We looked it over, but didn't realize one of the straps were so broken, (most of it was there, but the end to put in the crank was only partially there -- so usable for certain tires), it didn't work when we picked up the vehicle. Perhaps if someone used it with smaller tires, it would have fit, but the strap was clearly broken long ago (weather worn and shredded at end) and was not long enough for our use. We ended up having to get other straps to hold the vehicle down. When returning the trailer, I had to wait in line excessively as there was only one person on the counter and multiple people there, and when I approached him about it, he dismissed me, seemed uninterested in my concern and said "just go tell the people outside." I do have to say though, the young lady with the colored hair, and the tall gentleman with the long hair that were tending the lot, were delightful, engaging and we had a great conversation with them about our Jeep we had that day, and the history of the ducks! Kudos to them, but shame on the rude and dismissive man at the counter.

The app tell you what to do…take pictures of the mileage and the truck and where you park the truck and drop the keys in the drop slot. But at Albany the drop slot goes to the floor. So I went to the desk (like I did to pick up the keys) they tell me to go out to the green tent (like I should know that) I go to the tent and try to hand the guy the keys and he tells me that I need to pull the truck in the this area and I should have know this. I tried telling him that the app didn’t say anything about doing that. Last month I rented a truck and I did everything the app told me to do and I gave the key to the desk and that was it. This last rental just ended with a bad experience

THOMAS JTye service we received was excellent! However the fleet of trucks was all over the place. The truck we had been assigned in the app was simply not at the lot. The system told the front desk it was in lot A, however it was nowhere in sight at the entire store. The front desk echoed that of the total rentals today, half of the fleet of reserved trucks were simply missing from the Albany location. Very concerning and chaotic. The staff were excellent however in sourcing us another one so job well done there, however whatever is responsible for lining up the trucks and notifying the front desk/app of the available vehicles needs improvement.

DONALD JMy only issue was that I made a reservation for a one way rental of a 10 ft cargo van. I received a confirmation. I received a call on Saturday, two days before the rental and the representative told me that cargo trucks were excluded from one-way rentals. Really? Why would your system allow me to rent it in the first place? The representative was not understanding, and he knew I had no choice but to take the truck. I feel that I wasn’t being told the truth. You system let me rent a cargo van for one-way. If this truly wasn’t permitted, your software would have not let me rent it. I also asked how the EZ Pass worked for tolls. He said the truck would have one and I would be billed. When I picked up the truck, a much more qualified representative told me that I was to use my own. Thankfully, I had brought mine. You asked for comments, so I hope these help you improve your service.
ROSS MI stored my belongings here for about 8 months. The facility itself was clean, secure, and well-maintained- no issues with the storage units at all. However, the customer service was consistently disappointing. Most of the staff had little to no understanding of their own systems, often causing unnecessary delays. On several occasions, I encountered employees who clearly lacked motivation or concern for customers' time. U-Haul needs to invest in better training and hold staff to a higher standard if they want the customer experience to match the quality of their facilities.

JOHN POK. I’ve used this location several times, it’s convenient, right off the highway on and off. Never had a problem with the staff, very polite and professional. The other day while returning a truck that I rented, I went to use the restroom, which is a single stall. There was this young man sitting backwards on the toilet, using the tank as a desk, where he had all his drug paraphernalia laid out and was in the process of shooting up drugs. I have no idea if this person was a client of U-Haul or he just walked in to use the restroom. Definitely unacceptable. What if I would’ve walked in with my daughter and she had to use the restroom? And she walked in on this person without my knowledge. Something to bring to the attention of the U-Haul staff at 139 Broadway, Albany. Besides that I had no other issues with U-Haul.

LAURA MThe first key we were giving was not for the vehicle that was assigned to us. When I went back inside and the correct key was giving for the rental. The number on the rental didn't match the number on the text that was sent. I had to go back inside for them to correct it. it took them sending three different text with the correct info for the correct vehicle. The week before we had a rental and found a joint in the driver side door. I rent a 10ft uhaul every week. I would like to have a smoother pick up and received a rental that doesn't smell like weed. Just a little care would be nice specially for weekly customers.

Nathan LI waited in line I don't know how long--20 minutes? a half-hour?--until a gentleman behind the counter announced that folks returning trucks could simply leave the keys in the truck and take off if we were OK with an e-mailed receipt. There were no signs instructing what to do with returned trucks in the parking lot. A half-hour I will never get back.Meanwhile, two other employees seemed to be doing something on a computer--they were working, but they were doing nothing to help the customers who needed their assistance. Finally, the return area was mayhem--there were no directions on where to leave trucks.

Albert d | First ImpressionsU-Haul pickup at Cobleskill Collision was terrible, not well informed about the 24hr Truck Share, and was under the impression that the rental was separate from the collision company, which it is not. Not one worker was around to assist us, and I called the help desk which was a 20 minute wait to nothing, then the other end hung up on me. I had to figure out downloading the app and getting the code through the website, and calling the Albany U-haul myself before I finally received the keys. Once the truck was received (roughly 2 hours later) there was less than a quarter tank of gas left, when upon payment, i was told it would be full tank, as it should be replenished before and after use. Once we arrived to the storage unit in Albany, we had started moving a few things upstairs and ended up stuck between floors in the elevator for roughly 45 minutes, and had to call the fire department. They've allowed me another day free of having the rental truck, but I may just look elsewhere. I've never had such an inconvenience with U-haul before, but with the accumulations of these issues over time have led me to want to choose service elsewhere.

(Against my better judgment) after getting it unloaded the whole truck on dolly's, and put them in the elevator. After getting in the elevator I could not get it to go up to my storage unit. Trying the call bell relentlessly, I called the customer service line. After that I went outside to go into the facility itself only to see it was closed. The girl that came out with the curly bushy hair was outside getting into her car. I asked could she help me with the elevator. She stated that it was because they were closed is why the elevator was not working. I said , that's impossible because the hours of operation for storage say everyday until 10. She stated well I can't help u we are closed. So I called back the customer service and sat in the elevator with all my property while on the phone with them letting them know what happened. Another women came to the door and and I let her in with a trolly alerting her to what was going on. She tried her card. Still with no avail we continued to try. It began to be hot so we all got off the elevator and went in the corridor while the whole time I'm on the phone with the representative from customer service. The elevator closed and locked in all my property and the young ladies as well. Non I'm caught in a dilemma. I'm asking the representative what do I do because I refuse to leave my stuff here. She told me unfortunately she can't get in touch with the general manager so there is nothing I can do. And then to top it off she couldn't get In touch with her boss. In my opinion they both should be fired. I've been a general manager with Sam's club for 13 years and we get paid to respond to any situation at our store no matter the time at night. You were unresponsive forever over 2 hrs. I finally, forced the elevator door open and had to reload my property into the U-Haul and drop it off at another location, only to have to reload it again another time to take it to a facility I can trust. This is the absolute worst experience I've ever Had. I was on camera with your customer service representative for 2 hours at your facility. Needless to say I'm never going to advocate for your business ever in my life. This message will be forwarded to the president of your company and I will be there in the morning at 9am to get a full refund on my storage, as I no longer or will never seek your business again On top of that when I took the truck back to were I could temporarily store my belongings. When I came back the app asked me to scan the bar code on the door and I kept getting and sorry temporarily unable response. I'll never use u haul again nor will anyone I know

Perhaps not their fault because they seem pretty overwhelmed and maybe management just needs to hire more people but there is always a line and a delay in getting assistance. After I had cleared out my unit I went to the front desk and was told "we'll email you" the close-out receipt. Sure enough I never received anything via email and was charged for a new month the following day. I was able to get that charge reversed after several calls but it should not have been on me to do all that work. If I need a storage unit in the future I will definitely, 100% use somewhere else.
Ian S | Overall ExperienceI arrived at opening to retrieve a reserved truck &storage unit, as for the truck the gas wasn’t where it said it was on my initial paperwork. &did not receive the information for my unit until I arrived at 1pm. Only after I review my unit I was informed that the card swipe system was down and I would have to further wait to be let up and down on the freight elevator by an employee and could not have access after 5pm due to U-Haul retail closing and employee departure. After loading the elevator after at least 30 mins of waiting and reaching the 5th floor the unit that was reserved had someone’s belongings in them. After waiting get the unit straightened out I received a new unit… with a pole! Which upon initial review and reservation the units with a pole or cheaper. The employees did their best with what they have, I just believe it’s really inconvenient to not be able to access my things with the key card during access hours and only with employee during business hours and also inaccurate unit information in the system which causes further delay.

I have been in customer service, yea a lot of people are idiots, but you can tell the ones who aren't. It takes 2 seconds to check if someone's unit is locked but paid. If I'm not yelling and screaming at you, and not speaking in elaborate stories, I clearly just want a quick solution so I can get in and out just take the 2 seconds.

The 3rd floor (which i had originally booked) was nice and clean. then they told me the only locker open was on the 6th floor, which had old wooden doors that barely open, my lock was broken and no staff came to fix it, instead it was closed and the employees left after buzzing for 15 minutes. the 6th floor is full of spiders, dust, and cobwebs and my locker itself was full of cobwebs around the front door. i don’t understand how you can charge people the same rate for two completely different units that look NOTHING ALIKE. the higher the floor in this establishment, the shittier it looks. if i wasn’t a college student i wouldn’t use this service but i have no other options.

I went to pick up the supplies and due to power outage I couldn’t access any of my items. The people at the front counter said they could override it but it was too annoying so they refused. I plan this party for months it costs $15,000. I told todd I would like some sort of compensation for this situation. At least 6 months to cover the tables and chairs I had to purchase duplicates of because I couldn’t access my stuff. He told me I would have to contact corporate lawyers because I was going to pursue with my lawyer. I asked him several times for the contact information of corporate lawyers in Arizona. He avoided the question and eventually stopped replying to me. I couldn’t be more frustrated with this situation. Just total incompetence all the way around.

lisa A | Overall ExperienceI got this unit when I rented a truck and was supposed to receive a free month which I did not then when I tried to move out June 1st the elevator was broken and I was told to take the stairs to remove my things which was way to big to make it down the stairs because I was on the 3rd floor. After walking two ac units down the stairs with my back condition I went back to the desk and a note was put in my account for them to call me when it was back up and running and for the manager to call me to speak bout payments since I was attempting to close my unit and was unable I did not get any calls messages or anything til the end of July and it was a request for 300 dollars I then called to speak with a manager and never got in touch with one . I paid the amount requested and went to remove my items again and came to the same problem elevator down and I had to request two different times for someone to put me in the freight elevator to get my things after standing there for 20 mins the staff is unpleasant and very unprofessional and I will never rent from this location ever again and I will never suggest anyone to rent from you. I definitely suggest a revamp of your staff . They running this location into the ground

Through no choice of my own (my originally planned move to Pennsylvania, fell through at the last minute). I was forced to stay local because I just moved out of my home and had nowhere else to go. So I had to quickly last minute rent something else temporary until I can figure this mess out. When I had purchased my storage locker the woman at the front desk that assisted me at (I don’t remember her name) acted as if she was just too busy to help anybody. She seemed very stressed and all she kept talking about was how bad she wanted to go home. She just couldn’t wait for 7 o’clock to roll around. I can’t tell you how many times I heard that in the 20 minutes I stood in line customers don’t want to hear employees say things like that over and over and over again not to mention that as if you have no time for the customers. This was my first experience ever renting a storage unit and it was absolutely horrible from the start. The employee that help me fef me inaccurate information. I later found out (the Next day) by the manager what real deal was. So after I purchased the unit, I proceeded to back my truck to the bay and unload much of the entire contents of my home. I was told I had until 10 o’clock to get the truck unloaded and over to be checked in clearly that wasn’t the case. About 6:15, I received a phone call from regional asking me where I was… I told her that I was at the Albany location unloading my truck so we can be checked in before 10 o’clock. She told me that the check-in closed at 7 PM and then I need to be done before then she’s like I will just give you an extra day… I said sure! I’ll just pay for an extra day! Only to find out about this time that the elevator single elevator broke down with people in it! I was then told by the employee who originally sold me the unit that the elevator broke down, they were here to fix it and then I needed to pack all my stuff back up in the truck and come back tomorrow. Just like that rude and abrasive. I quietly packed up the truck again. And I went on my way, only to return the next day. So at least today I knew that the truck had to be at check in before 7 o’clock. So once I got there, I backed up to the bay, proceeded to unload my truck. I unloaded the truck and delivered it to check in at about 6:50pm. I was greeted by the manager there, and she told me that they would be checking it in the morning. (that would be 10/5.) I proceeded to walk over to the bay where the contents of my truck were unloaded. I proceeded to get things in order to bring them up to the fifth floor on carts when the nice lady employee who sold me the unit came up to me and said in a very condescending manner what are you doing? We’re closing we’re closed. Our elevator is broken. At this point, I’ll freak out I lost my composure. I asked why I hadn’t I been told????? Why wasn’t there a sign on the door? Why wasn’t there a sign at the elevator nobody knew the elevator is broken not a single customer, and there were many tonight that came through very very disgruntled customers. I was so very upset. I knew the manager was still in the building and I told this lady to send the manager over to me because I wanted her to switch to switch me to a unit downstairs so I could lock my things up for the evening. She said the computers are down and we’re closed anyway I said what happened to the 10 o’clock thing you told me about yesterday? Both last night and now tonight, you’re closing here at 7 o’clock? And I’m the one who has to pay an extra day for the truck? Now I am inconvenienced so I have to come back a third day to put this stuff away in my locker on the fifth floor??? The manager never even came over. I waited until 8 o’clock. I went over to the entrance on the backside where the front desk is it was completely dark. Nobody was there. They all went home just leaving me and my things there with no way to lock them up and now I have to go there first thing in the morning to put them away when I have plenty other things, I could be doing like finding a home, and a place to live, taking care of a job and a family. This facility in Albany completely consumed me for the last three days and and I am extremely upset and unhappy with the service I received from this facility, both the manager and this woman … after all, the manager, is the person that left me there, my things out in the open, unlocked, and just went home when there could’ve been a resolution to this this evening, and I would not have had to go back tomorrow and rearrange my schedule to take care of this. They could’ve helped an upset customer out this evening and chose not to. They went home. Any company that treats customers in this manner should not be in business. After all… Aren’t happy, satisfied customers, the lifeblood of any business?

The elevator was broken during the ENTIRE duration of my rental, so literally 3+ months. I was just glad there was still a unit available to us.. Calling this facility is difficult. Each time I would call I would be put on hold for more than an hour until it will eventually give up. They won't take partial payments of monthly storage. I offered to pay February and 100.00 garbage fee. I should not have to pay the garbage fee. Free garbage removal should be. I have paid a fortune so far. The one worker would not let me go back into the ground floor to get the garage that day so I left. I know that your business is very busy and you deal with multiple diversities. But for a company that is as large as yours , maybe some changes need to be made. When I got to the 5th floor, there was a lock on it. I had to go all the way back downstairs, then outside back to the counter. There were at least 4 staff available who could have told me the unit was locked, or better yet, actually unlocked for me once it was reserved. When I came back to put my items in storage, I accessed the facility but then was denied elevator access. I had rented storage at this facility in the past and had elevator access problems EVERY time I was in the building. It’s aggravating, and unnecessary. Nobody offers to fix it, they just have a staff person get on and use their card to get you to your floor. The office was not busy when I was there. My unit could have been unlocked for me once I completed my reservation. I had back surgery a few weeks ago and it is difficult to walk long distances. I don’t know why I had to go back and forth up and down 5 floors so I could tell the front desk there was a lock on the unit. They already knew. Waste of time and unnecessarily difficult.

Accessing my unit (located on the 2nd floor) was incredibly frustrating because the elevator/key card/punch code system wouldn't work and every time I had the issue staff said "yeah, the second floor doesn't work." While the staff was helpful in solving the issue each time, it's clear U-Haul of Albany isn't investing in upkeep of their facility. U-Haul of Albany needs to: 1) fix its elevator service, or 2) fix the key card system.

Repeated calls to customer service wen unanswered. The cell of the GM went to a voice mail and was never answered. The intercom was never answered and there was no one on site to help. We drove to the Broadway Office where Megan was very helpful, switched our rental to that building, and then showed us how to work the security system. A process that should have been easy took two hours in total.

I was assured on Saturday 5/22 that the customer elevators would be in order by Sunday 5/23 which was the day I was moving into my unit with a full apartment of items. On Sunday when I arrived with my full UHaul I also rented there was no working elevator. I asked an employee inside who said "someone was working on it right now." I went back and waited for awhile by the elevators but no one was currently working on it. I finally went back inside and asked that someone operate a freight elevator because I needed to load my things into the unit that day. Finally someone came but it was a pretty big issue and many other customers were trying to move in and out of units so it was difficult to use the elevator and the employee had a hard time keeping up with the various floors people had to go to.

I have had to ask the counter help for assistance numerous times in the last 39 days. It’s annoying and inconvenient. On 10/7/2020 I got stuck on the elevator for more than 10 minutes. The elevator call for help button was not operational - which is dangerous, and illegal. I called and called and called and nobody ever picked up the phone. I was crying by the time someone came to open the door to access their own storage unit. Staff said the phone system wasn’t working. Scary.

I tried to reach someone at the desk, and no one picked up the phone so I pushed the help box button on the floor, and no one answered that either. Supposed I wasn't there with anyone and I was getting attached. No one would have helped me in time. Also, it is too hot and there is no air circulating in the building. I thought I was going to pass out with no air. Lastly, the doors on the unit are so thin and limp that I really didn't feel that the lock was really securing it. Anyone could come in and kick a hole in the door and take whatever they wanted and no one would ever have known it.

I went up to my locker to move my items into the unit, however there was a pad lock on the unit with a green tag that said “customer ready”. I tried to contact the general manager who was Supposed to be available for after hours assistance, however he did not answer his phone, his voicemail box was full and he did not respond to email or text message. I was finally able to contact the security company who monitors the building, the gentleman put me through to customer service where I waited on hold for at least 30 mins. I finally spoke to Coco at customer service who suggested I “remove the green tag” and continue to move my items in. Her advice was not helpful as there was a pad lock on my unit that required a key to unlock it. I explained this again and she put me on hold for a second time to see if she could talk to the general manager. She could not reach Shannon, but assured me a local employee was on their way. I waited for two and a half hours (30 mins until access to the building closed) and no one showed up to unlock the locker. I contacted customer service a second time and spoke to a man who sent me a 47second YouTube video tutorial on how to do a mobile check in with a digital lock. This was not helpful. Since not being able to move onto my storage unit on the day I planned, I was required to bring the uhaul truck I rented back home, increasing mileage on the vehicle and needed to wait until office hours opened before I could move in. I am extremely frustrated about the whole experience using uhaul. It was a major Inconvenience for me to not be able to move in when I was supposed to. I would like to be refunded my total rental charge for the uhaul truck and 4 months rent free for the storage unit.

There was no information about increased disinfecting protocols (and it looked like there were none in place - floor was dirty, there was a latex glove on the floor of the elevator (yuk)), employees seemed unaware of the need to use hand sanitizer before and after interacting with customers, and there were no signs letting people know they need to keep 6 feet distance. Customers stood on line as usual and the air system near the counter blew hvac air in our faces. People stood close in the elevators that rode to storage units. Covid-19 is spread by air and surfaces. The Broadway Albany Uhaul needs to up its game to keep its staff and customers safe. It seems well behind the curve compared with the communications from and protocols put into action by other large companies. Please take this virus seriously and protect your employees, your customers - your business! What steps will you take to make employees and customers safe? I would like to hear about it as currently I do not think the storage building I've rented from feels like a safe place.
