Helena HThe wiper blades were somewhat streaky on today’s many rain showers and the box had a number of pools of water both when picking it up and after driving it following a clean up. It did not damage my belongings but it could have been troublesome if the contents were different.

Pretty extreme. It led my wife to put my kids into the car looking for me even though I was at UHaul returning the truck on time. I'm very disappointed with this service and the interruption it caused for my family. It was unnecessary and I don't appreciate it. Other than that, the staff at the facility were kind and accommodating.

Nathan and the other two staff members we interacted with were a text-book example of amazing customer service. No amount of advertising will ever compare to the power of a truly positive customer experience when it comes to a company’s brand image from the perspective of an individual customer. The staff were professional, personable and extremely helpful — and were the key to my positive experience. Like many self-storage and rental vehicle customers, being in-transition can be a very stressful and challenging time, however dealing with U-Haul and the staff has really been refreshing. Thank you so much for making sure our experience was straight-forward, easy to understand and well explained. JEFFERY DService was great. I was late getting the trailer (problem on my end) and Uhaul called to check if I still needed the trialer, or if I wanted to reschedule or cancel. Help when I got there was prompt and polite, and I had some help unlimbering when I dropped off the trailer in the evening. The attendant took care of the post rental checkover, and I didn't even need to go inside for any kind of paperwork or check in. Great business transaction. I will continue to rent from Uhaul in general, but this location in particular.

CHRISTINE W | Overall ExperienceI needed to rent a trailer to move specific objects. I viewed all of the trailer dimensions very carefully to determine whether my articles would fit. I rented a box trailer with an advertised interior length of 12'3". Some of the goods to be moved included 12' long building materials. When I picked up the trailer I found out the interior dimension was only 11'7". The service person shrugged their shoulders. I asked for another trailer having the advertised dimensions and was told they are all the same. I other words all do not match the advertised specs. I did measure another one with a different door configuration and it was still smaller. Unbelievable false advertising that means I have to rent another trailer to do the job. Terrible response from staff- just take it or leave it- the day I needed the rental.

james w | Overall ExperienceI was originally supposed to pick up my UHaul truck at Tender Kare Transportation. Although they were supposed to call me the day before to confirm the pickup, they never did. I was forced to call. When I called the day before, I was told they would have one the next day and that they would call me at 8:30 am to confirm. Once again they did not call me back. After calling them after 8:30 am, they told me they had no truck (even though I was told just 16 hours before one would be available) and that they would not have one for at least 2 days. This facility should not be allowed to represent UHaul. There were some mix ups with the location where I was supposed to return the trucks.

We had RESERVED (according to the tab on the website) a pickup - return from Barrys Bay from Thursday to Tuesday for $30/day Received a call on the Saturday prior to let us know that our trailer had been dropped off in Renfrew - 1.5 hours away from us...which would add 6 hours of driving onto our move. Since we were going to Niagara (the opposite direction) - traffic control said that we could pick up in Pembroke - again...an hour out of our way. The option would be to pick up in Renfrew and drop off in Barrys Bay - but the cost rose to $499. They offered various excuses why our trailer was not at the requested pick-up spot - however - we have rented nearly 100 trailers and trucks over the years and are well acquainted with the trailer moving process. Finally found a CSR that understood our situation - in TORONTO - and was transferred to traffic control in Niagara. They offered to give us a two day rental for $200 - pick up Niagara and drop off in Bancroft. So...we had to rearrange our help loading in Niagara and cut our thanksgiving weekend short - to accommodate this. When we dropped off in Bancroft - the CSR stated that she had been trying to get UHaul there to move inventory because she had no room left for trailers or trucks.

I voiced a complaint stemming from the lack of communication surrounding the restricted access to the facility after business hours even though I was told I would be granted 24 hr access. Instead of reaching out to me to address my concerns and reach a possible resolution, I had to reach out again after waiting 3 weeks with no response. After reaching out a second time I was told that someone documented they addressed my concerns and resolved my complaint which was not true, so I requested it be escalated further. I then received a very indifferent and unempathetic response via email. I have yet to have anyone call me to truly understand my situation or reach an agreed resolution. Horrible customer service.

Place was secure but there was frequently people in the storage that seemed to be just randomly in the area. The day we were moving out people were loud and playing music and seemed were there most of the time not attending to any particular storage. Lastly, I called ahead to assure the location was area that I was moving and was told as long was by the 7th, to come to find out my payment was already processed. The reason I called was so I wasn't charged. The person I spoke to didn't give any particular instructions just said ok. This was very upsetting I intentionally called to close the storage then was charged anyway. After I called when I found this out and charges reversed but now I have a delay in my funds which was totally unnecessary.

The reason for the rental was due to the sale of my home effective August 30th and the possession of a new one. Unfortunately my possession for my new home was delayed. When I received a call from uhaul confirming my drop off location and time I advised I may not be able to make the agreed time and the gentleman on the phone became very unprofessional, questioning why and reminding me that I signed a contract. Although he was rude about it I understood it was approaching the end of the month and I did not want to inconvenience the customer that was relying on my return so I decided to take uhaul up on their offer for a free month of storage. I booked it at the same drop off location and requested 24hr access so I could drop it off on the 28th instead of the 29th. I spoke with Asia and she was very helpful in making sure I had access. However, upon my arrival the loading area's garage door (#7) was not working. As a result, I had to call uhaul and I spoke with another great person by the name of Crystal who tried everything she could to help. Unfortunately she could not resolve my issue and I was forced to use the single door security entrance to bring my stuff in. Unfortunately my Italian leather power reclining couch could not fit through the door and I was forced to dismantle it which resulted in it getting damaged. I drove for over an hour to that location and the person who was helping me drove an additional 2 hours to assist me only to have a malfunctioning garage door opener make our job of offloading way harder and longer than it had to be. I am now just getting home at 3:33am and my friend who helped is now on his journey home which will take him close to 2 hours.

We were unable to find one of them and where our locker should have been was a different number. Your wall maps also indicated incorrect numbers. We had 4 other people walking around the facility to find out locker. We had to go back to the front desk to find out what was going on only to find out that the locker numbers don't match the wall maps or the map we were handed. We actually had a completely different number than what we were given. That was frustrating. Other than that, everything went smoothly. You did accomodate us with 2 lockers to make the size we required

There was no security either as all we had to do was pull up to the access bay and the garage door opened. True you could not walk in without a car or a passcode but anyone could drive in to the building. The unit was clean and I would absolutely use you again but more light within the unit itself would have been helpfui.
Anne M | Overall ExperienceI had two storage units for over 2 years. Over top of one storage unit, way up in the rafters, uhaul did some renovations. They did not cover the top of my units caged ceiling first before doing so, so there was a layer of dirt, saw dust etc, over everything. No actual damage to any of belongings in my first unit. My second unit however was nowhere near the renovations, so everything was nice and clean until i found my couch. It was placed directly on the floor and was destroyed to what appears to be water damage. No water found in 2nd unit while moving. Staff is great, facilities are brand new.

Still should of been notified by law. 80 percent of our stuff was covered in mold and had to throw away. Insurance only gave us depreciated value. There was no compassion from the uhaul employees except for the lady that closed our account on January 1st. Been trying to get ahold of a manager for months. I should be entitled to some rent back for keeping my stuff since the damage happened. Still no response
Derek S | Overall ExperienceThe unit I was assigned to had some pipes running through the corner and taking up space, which was a little frustrating to work around. Also, the stairs are steep, and the elevator is only for things, not people, so the stairs are the only option. Outside of those things and the price, the experience was pretty good. I was especially thankful for the elevator and hand trollies for moving things.

When I asked for some money back on a month of rent due to the constant need of me tracking someone down to explain the issue, I was blatantly declined with no further options. So I moved out to avoid any further damage to my items. I'm disappointed at the lack of concern for an issue within your units, as they are not cheap to keep.

It was a HUGE INCONVENIENCE. Terrible experience, made my move that much more difficult and I would never use or recommend U-Haul as a whole to anyone.

The storage unit itself was fine except there's a pipe or something in the one corner on the floor that makes things awkward, Overall, I'm not very impressed.

I would like to suggest one thing...that the top of the storage unit be some type of solid material. With a mesh wire celing and the increase of rodents and pests, it would not take much for the units to become infested if a tenant brought a pest problem into the storage facility. The use of pesticides have changed with recently changed regulations. Some residential building managers are struggling to keep pests at bay with the new regulations. Anyway...its just a though. It was located possibly the furthest ot could be from the access doors. We had spent 5 days dealing woth our mothers house after she passed away suddenly. It would have taken us HOURS to load/unload that storage unit. We decided to not move forward with the unit. Your team member felt as though she had a right to show us that she was severely inconvenienced by us changing our mind. Angrily crumbled up the signed documents and essentially threw a little tantrum, throwing them away etc. we were apologetic and received “the stink eye”. We were getting a 10x 15 unit and we had almost a full 20ft truck with furniture, boxes, belongings. How is there no dorect access? Anyway, at no point were we anything other than polite and kind. The young lady needs to work on her customer service skillset.

Terry C | Overall ExperienceOur first day at U-Haul Moving & Storage Of Central St. Catharines, 72 Vine St S St. Catharines turned out to be total disaster: There has been a documentation #9411112 made by Tiffany Dicken, Senior Agent, U-Haul International on our U-HAUL Storage and Cargo Van Rental Contract about compensation for the time, mileage, and fuel spent to make the trip to the storage facility. On our first day shortly after 9am, we paid for our 1st monthly rental and 24hr access to our 10’x15’ storage unit. Unfortunately, when we arrived with our 2nd load late evening around 11pm our access to the facility was refused by the storage security system, in spite of the fact that we paid for 24hr access. As we were getting into our vehicles to leave the UHaul facility at 72 Vine St S in St. Catharines there was a disheveled man sitting in my dad's truck going through his belongings and he stole my dad's cell phone and change. I phoned the UHaul facility the next day to report the incident and asked to speak to the manager about this safety concern and the staff took a message for the manager but the manager did not return my phone call. I phoned again and left another message and the manager did not call me back. I filed a police report and UHaul failed to provide adequate video footage of the incident taking place. Be very careful if you choose to use this facility.

I understand that it is "first come, first served but at 73 years old with a bad hip it made the move very difficult. I actually used my own small wheeled carton. Perhaps a few more pallet trucks in the "new" facility would be helpful. I cannot really fault U-Haul...it was more the attitude of the other customer. I did come back after 7 pm and there were pallet trucks available. Your staff were very helpful as usual and had all of the necessary paperwork ready on arrival. Used it to move my stuff in and when I have to come back a few time it wasn’t working and not working the day I left !!! There is a very bad odor when you go into the hallway from entrance almost like a dead rodent smell as it’s a smell one doesn’t forget!! I had issues with my swipe card when I register for a second unit when I was paying the mover by the hour I had to walk back in forth instead of uhal workers doing their job !!! Only when I got mad and said I can’t keep walking back in forth with my bad leg a uhal worker came out and than finally did something about it !!! So for a half hour I had to deal with that issue !! I was not impressed at all with my experience with uhal !!! You would 1 star for the young lady manger that’s it !!

No appropriate map or location of my storage unit was available. The online link to the map sucks. It opens half the time and when it does it’s impossible to navigate on a mobile device.

I had to call and speaj w/different locations, who eventually accommodated me. 2nd, when picking up the truck and confirming storage unit. same rep went over quickly the directions to the storage until upon return. Didn't give me the step by step sheet for after hours. 3rd at time of dropping of storage contents couldn't get into storage facility. Called the after hours # and the rep said we had to wait until the location was open the next day, instead of giving me instructions to get into the storage facility, wasting our time, driving the truck home, which cost more. The next day location wouldn't cover the cost of the extra mileage and in process of disputing extra monies paid. I would not recommend this location and the rep who initially serviced us needs better communications skills/training

I was confused because I was under the impression that my unit came with a lock. So, I purchased a lock but when I opened my unit, a lock was in the unit! I went back to the counter, and the agent says "Oh sorry, it's not on your invoice so that's your lock now!" She would not refund me for the lock. Uhual, if a lock is included in the unit, it should be indicated on the invoice, whether it is free or paid for. When I went to return the truck rental on Welland Ave, the Gentleman there called to straighten it out, yet he advised for me to go back to Vine St because it is part of their inventory. He says "Well, you need to go return the lock to Vine Street, even if it's complimentary because you purchased a new lock". Why would I return a lock that came with my unit? Just to give it back to Uhaul for them to sell? Completely unorganized and I should have been refunded for the cost of the lock.

Kenny V | Overall ExperienceI was actually really disappointed with everything I experienced yesterday. The doors of the unit I was given don't close properly so anyone walking by can not only see into my unit but put their whole arm through the crack in the door. That's not private or secure. I asked the staff to put in a service request to fix it and hopefully that happens quickly because my plans to move anything in there are delayed until it does. The biggest concern anyone has about using storage lockers is security. You can't afford to neglect that, ever. I got the other items I ordered with my unit, those items were in good shape. I have no complaints about those items I received. But I do have complaints about the way the facility is maintained. I had to wheel this cart over rough terrain in the broken parking lot, then over grass, then through another area of broken pavement, fighting to keep the cart from tipping over and all my stuff falling on the wet ground. There's a homeless camp right at the side entrance and while I empathize with their situation, the idea of going there at night makes me feel really uncomfortable. There's no staff in the warehouse and no direct line to reach them in the store if you have questions. Also, the unit I got had a rat trap in it which made me feel like I need to use plastic storage containers over cardboard. There was nothing else in it but nothing in the storage warehouse is clean. The floors need to be redone, there's tripping hazards everywhere. The units are dimly lit and There's no where you can run an Extension cord so you can see what you're doing in your unit without leaving the door open to let hallway light in. Again, not very private or secure. The bathrooms were clean atleast. I spoke to the staff about my issue with the door and atleast they offered to refund my payment for the month until my door can be replaced with something that's actually secure. I left there feeling like the people in charge of running this facility just simply don't care about the customer experience. I don't mean the staff on the store, I mean the people who make choices about grounds maintenence, property standards and customer safety.

I ended up having to store my things in two separate lockers. My insurance had been applied to only one of them and I had to purchase a second lock. - At the beginning of this period, there were several mistakes made on my bill. I had to call to discuss these mistakes numerous times. The phone hold time was very long and each time I invariably ended up speaking to someone in Arizona. Each time I was told that I had to speak to directly to someone at the location. The locaton is filthy. - There is debris falling from the ceiling. My belongings were covered with tiny pebbles of something. When I was moving out, it was impossible to keep this debris out of my eyes. It is a very old building. I do not know what that material was but it could very well have been a poisonous subsance which was used in construction many years ago. - The floor inside my units was not level. It was impossible to safely stack boxes. The rows of boxes toppled down because there wss no level ground. - The floor inside my units were rough, dusty, and full of pot holes. Furniture and other items were damaged due to this. Some things are too heavy to lift. They must be pushed. It was impossible to move anything around without it catching on a pothole. I had to try to lift heavy items to get them dislodged from the pot holes. - The freight elevator system is the worst I have ever experienced. When I described it to a woman at the call centre in Arizona, she couldn't believe it. A person who is moving without assistance has to send items down, then run downstairs to catch it at the bottom. - There is no loading dock. Most places have a loading dock so that heavy furniture can be transfered to a truck without having to pick it up from the ground. This is very bad for human backs and can cause much damage. Both storage companies which I have used in the past not only had loading docks but they had covered/interior loading docks to protect against rain and snow. Here, your stuff goes down the elevator and straight into the rain. I have used two other public storage places in the past and I have never seen/experienced anything this bad. U-haul storage, although being the worst I have ever known was also the most expensive. Furthermore, other companies refund any unused portion of rental payment. They prorate the final bill. The people who work there were, although not knowledgeable, very pleasant and helped to the best of their ability.

There were very few carts. No instructions on the elevator on how to use it. Since there was only one elevator, others in the unit unpacked all of their belongings in front of the elevator and left it full and unoccupied so others could not use it. The stairs were steep and narrow and I nearly fell down them several times. The driveway to the back entrance where the elevator was located was so bad I was scared to drive down in for fear of ruining my vehicle.

Paul T | Overall Experienceon my first day, the woman at the front desk explained where my unit was but when i asked if the access code was for after hours, she just said yes. The door was open so I didn't think anything of it. The door was locked on my second visit and I tried my access code on the keypad on the left and it said I was denied. Then I tried the keypad on the right and it greeted me but the door did not unlock. I tried several times to use the intercom on both keypads but got no response. Had to drive back to the main office (unit was in a different building out back) and explained what was going on. She looked puzzled, then reviewed security and THEN explained that I had to use both keypads and in the other order but wasn't very quick to hand me the instructions. I told her that she did not explain any of this to me on my first day and just stared at me. Even the instructions did not explain what I had to do when I was leaving but the sign on the door threatening to deny my entry on my next visit if I didn't do it right was very clear. Your front desk should at least have someone who is going to act professional, they are the "face" of your company! Also, there was a tag on my door stating that it was clean and ready but I couldn't get in until I removed the tag which was VERY difficult without scissors. And fix your intercoms!

Contacting g customer service didn't help either. After going over in detail again what happened and a promise they would sort out and me a refund. They did not call back and that was 12 days ago. Further, I vacated my storage unit and advised 3 people I had left. I received a late rent notice and a phone call yesterday asking me to pay again! No I would not recommend this branch at all, 8f 9t was their money out of their chequing account I am sure they would have sorted. I now have to escalate probably legal avenue as they refuse to process a refund. Avoid this branch like the plague!

Had Mitchell come and try it himself. He had both the key & the lock in his hands and deemed the lock defective. The latch seemed to catch on the inside of the casing and took a lot of time and struggle to remove each time. MJ would not let me exchange the lock. She kept saying that “how was she supposed to know that it wasn’t my fault.” “That I didn’t drop it or damage it somehow.” Absurd. I was only there for a short time & on this particular day, was moving everything out. Got it all, but 4 bags. Put the lock on and left. Was back yesterday morning to get the last 4 bags. I could not get the lock off and came to the office to try and get help. “Robert” at least acknowledged that if I could get it off, he would exchange the lock. Something that MJ refuses to do many times. I told Robert that my key was bending and i was concerned about not being able to get it off. Went back and kept trying and the key broke off. Went back to the office again and Robert said he’d come over and help. He first went into the office and got MJ who came out again and said that “for security reasons” they couldn’t get the lock off for me.” She blamed me over and over about the lock stating that I could have dropped it, etc. I am a professional woman in my 50’s and didn’t appreciate her accusations and lack of help. Not once did she apologize for the situation or offer any type of assistance. I asked about your lock cutting staff and she would not confirm that she would get assistance, and refused to allow “Robert” to help. I left and with a little bit of research, found a manager from another location who I had never dealt with before, who sympathized with my situation. This new manager shared with me how to get the broken piece out of the lock with a Bobbie pin and that I could then try my spare lock. Failing that, this new manager then gave me the number of the Hamilton location where upper management could arrange some help. I Googled that number and drove to Hamilton. “Tom” at this location called MJ for me and complained about their lack of customer service on my behalf. He inquired about a reason why they wouldn’t help and they could not provide one for him. He got off the phone and went and talked to “Michelle” who authorized the u-Haul lock cutter, “Eric” to come and help and have me a new lock. While I drove back to St. Catharines and waited, he even called again to let me know when Eric would be there. Eric showed up around 9:30 and was extremely nice. He got the broken piece of key out and wanted to try the spare key himself. He had extreme difficulty getting the lock off with the key, too, ended up hurting himself while doing so and took the lock and keys with him.Judging on how my experience had gone to date, I went into the office to get a move out receipt from Robert before leaving. There is simply no excuse for this experience. MJ checked me into the locker, MJ rented me the van and took my drivers license, and MJ was there during every experience stifling her staff from helping me. I am extremely disappointed and baffled as to why a grown woman would be such a position, if she does not have the problem solving skills, or customer service skills to deal with these types of situations. Perhaps this position is too overwhelming for her and you need to re-examine your staffing at this location. Even a Manager whom I have never dealt with before, was able to offer assistance and direction. I had spent a lot of my time and frustration trying to get some assistance with a lock that U-Haul forces customers to buy and then does not stand behind their product. At least this Manager refuses to. In running my business, I could not even fathom speaking to one of my customers in the way that MJ handled this situation and is certainly not a good look for your company. At the very least, this woman requires further training on how to deal with situations as they arise.

However, I recently chose the outside unit thinking it would be better for quick access etc (which it was). The unit leaked when it rained and there was evidence of rat feces on the stored boxes and floor. I had not chosen the extra coverage, so an expensive rug was ruined despite being covered and otherwise just gross. Don't use outside units!

The gentleman in Niagara Falls was very helpful and lowered my rate cause I didn’t have to do that. So then I get to vine at location to find out that the storage unit I booked was indeed not on the main level which I had requested cause I can’t walk stairs. When I called to open I was given the main level at 134.95 and told it was a promotion. When I arrived I was told it was not the main floor and that If I wanted a main floor unit I would have to pay 164.95. The employee was texting the manager and the reply was there’s nothing I can do unless I pull up the call. So I said yes do that. Cause I’m not paying 164.95. So I waited. Half hr went by and they pulled a call. Was not my call about ordering. It was a call just inquiring on prices and info then she goes on to tell me that now they can’t find the call when I ordered. Very convenient I must say. So needless to say I’m waiting on someone to rectify this issue or my stuff will be coming out of the unit after my 30 days and I will be going to another storage place and going to social media about how much they are unprofessional and lie to you obviously just to make a sale. Won’t happen with me!!!

And I don't know what is going on with the massive pot holes, and (ponds) of water throughout the parking lot. The parking lot is not exactly car friendly. I had multiple problems with the one employee basically calling me a liar about the lift and said"I don't want to have to get up to go show you how to use it" (quoted and I had someone with me who heard that also). Second time he said he wasn't working but was standing behind the counter and would not assist me. Big guy with a beard, serious issues, even with the woman who was helping me one day. That guy clearly hates his job and doesn't like to stand up??
