The truck I drove should be retired. The ignition switch was bad and we were stuck for about ten minutes trying to get it to work. You had to pull the key out slightly to get it to work. No turning the steering wheel or fiddling around to get the truck started. The turn signals wouldn’t turn themselves off. The steering wheel shook when you braked. The girl that checked the truck in was unconcerned and and wouldn’t take anything off the rental. I had a problem with an Enterprise rental car that I had for 5 weeks and they were very apologetic and concerned and made it right with me. Not very good customer service.

I was not explained about the wrong destination fee, or ask where I was going to return the truck but when I called the location after I drove 90 miles then they explained it to me. Super super poor customer service.

The app was difficult to use because it wasn't allowing me to have access so by the time I left with the Uhaul it was already 45 minutes after. The clerk charged me for the dolly which I never used it and I requested a refund,.

The only issue I had was I still haven't received my final receipt. At 430 pm returned truck and asked if I wanted a printed copy or if emailed would be fine. They were busy and I thought emailed would be easier on all... it's 930 pm and still no email.

The door was smashed, new slide "locks" were installed, my deadbolt was still there but barely hanging on by a bent screw, no one contacted me to say my box had been dropped!! i have damaged goods, the loading help were horrible at their jobs, i moved 75% of my own belongings, it took 4.5 hrs to load.

The facility was good but the check in process through the app was a bit of a pain. Much prefer going to the counter and checking in in-person vs trying to upload very via the app. Could tell this was an issue with the employees as well, felt bad for them having to deny multiple people service while we all stood around trying to upload info on the app.

The mandatory usage of the app slows everything down and is way too many steps. The store associate informed me that they are only able to make a reservation and are not able to process the rental, it is required that I use my phone and download the app. I can understand the intention to make things easier, but it took at least three times as long as it has in the past to do a simple truck rental. I highly recommend enabling your associates to be able to handle rentals manually on a case by case basis, based on the customers preference. Not all customers prefer to use an app, and I am sure that some are not comfortable doing so. I sincerely hope that you are able to empower your employees to help speed up the process, rather than artificially slowing it down by requiring that both customers and associates exclusively use the Web app.

We arrived 30 minutes before closing and everyone that was working at the time was only concerned with closing up. They were rushing us not following through and answering questions or being helpful and this ended up being a big problem for us. The door to get into the storage area is very malfunctioning so that was a pain and the girl that set us up with the storage room was not helpful. Didn't seem to care about our concerns and only cared about getting out of there on time. However, Michaela was helpful in checking our trailer back in.

The size of unit I wanted was not available. But I was able to get 2 smaller units. The employees working the counter are really dedicated to the job and customer satisfaction. A good group of people to help you with your storage. Priscilla helped us and was very efficient and helpful. The place was very busy. Lots of Uhaul trucks, transports, and Uhaul products. Yet each person gets individual attention. It is very well kept up and clean and shiny. Smells nice. Thank you!

Make sure mechanical stuff is in good working condition. The truck I had had the tire pressure light on and one time during my use the truck wouldn't start. It sounded like a dead battery, but then it after a couple of times of trying to start it.

Workers are pretty rude and off putting. They'll help you out, but with an immense amount of attitude. Van was dirty and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Dirt everywhere in the cabin as well as trash left in the back.

Everything and Everyone associated with my Uhaul experience was VERY NICE, accommodating, professional yet family-like. From the moment I started.. the reservationists, the schedulers (although I was told I would be called the day before, and I wasn't), the calls I made to Uhaul with questions, to the end and the drop off facility where the people were just great!! Good for you Uhaul! You have great personnel! The equipment clean and quite new. THANK YOU at a time as is MOVING, when most is stressful.. to have calm, caring voices to help.

Don’t make people use your app It is not efficiant I had to re enter all my info several times, take all the pictures of the truck twice, your layout of the app sucks trying to upsell everything, so the no thank you is in a different location on each screen. All this with3-4 people behind your counter that could have taken care of me and had me on my way in 10-15 mins took me an hour or more. And the employees would rather help but were told by management to push the app. As well as I walked in and was at the head of the line to get passed bye folks who could faster finger than me and the guy behind me. This is not customer service. And once I left the trucks rear brakes sounded like metal on metal. LAME I’ll look into Penske trucks probably won’t help but better than this experience, and now I have to deal with all the ads and notifications from U-Haul in my spam and emails. And I didn’t answer this location because I don’t want to use you at all and don’t have a different option with Ryder not being around any more.

I needed a newer van that was wider in the back, as I need to move a queen mattress. There were several of these at the location but because there were the smaller vans parked in front of them, I couldn’t rent the larger. Very poor customer service. There were employees standing around in the garage that could have moved the van, but they chose to be indifferent and as someone who works in retail every day, I understand the importance of treating people well and the difference it means between them coming back, and never seeing them again.

Soft skills related to guest focused service should be completely retooled, then kept sharp.. one of the employees prominently displayed a coffee cup on the service counter. The black mug prominently read "FUCK OFF" in white lettering. I wish I were joking. The vulgar message is completely unprofessional and has no business in a service setting. Another huge turn off is the business process. It is completely unreasonable to be "required" to text a self portrait via text. .as a walk-in customer, my driver's license was provided upon arrival. The young man at the register confirmed my address by contrasting existing u-haul records to my license. 1) U-haul has camera prominently displayed above the port of sale system. 2) Licenses, especially federally acceptable "Real" IDs are suffice for national flight travel. It's disgusting that you fail to treat your customers with dignity - I don't even take or share a 'selfie' with my wife. I do not presume that u-haul is responsible enough to safeguard my information. My signature and credit card should be considered sufficient. I suppose ego at HQ assumes requiring a self photo and text leaves you in a position of strength, however, if you are serious about driving bottom line profits you'll recognize that brands are rewarded for the perceived value gleaned in satisfying a need. U-Haul is missing the mark here. It's about the way you make your customer feel. Recommendations: 1) Fire the employee who brazenly brandishes a "FUCK OFF" coffee cup at your POS. 2) Invest in service skills (even if it's off the shelf) then foster a culture that strives to exceed customer expectations. 3) Align incentives, such as performance appraisals, etc. 4) Nice try 'embracing' technology, but your employees must be empowered to exercise their discernment; local scrutiny of an ID can be gleaned by the photo ID and enhanced by proving questions such as DOB,.address, etc. This experience gets an F. I spoke to the site manager Priscilla by phone. She was off-site and presented professionally. I appreciated how she was immediately avai to her staff, just for calling. For what it's worth, I suspect she's a keeper. Requested to speak to her supervisor; expecting a follow-up this week.

The service at this U-Haul was very bad and disappointing, they tried getting extra money out of me while starting me with a U-Haul that had less then a quarter in gas and delayed much of the process while being very rude workers one being the short lady that wouldn't even reply when someone thanked her.

I had a storage for about 3 years here, my unit got broken into, at least twice. The "younger" Hispanic girl who works at the front is EXTREMELY rude & treats customers with disrespect. I'm honestly surprised she still has a job there. After my first encounter with her, I refused to speak to her & would wait for another associate, even if I was in a hurry. My first ever interaction 3 years ago with priscilla, was not enjoyable, in fact she was extremely hostile because I needed assistance opening a JAMMED door... in her defense, it was the end of the day & she may have been stressed out. Each interaction with priscilla after that was pleasant, she was kind & helpful. Most of my negative reviews has to do with that "younger" Hispanic girl & the fact that my storage unit got broken into.... AT LEAST TWICE. oh ya, jarrod eas extremely rude as well. My suggestion to the rude employees is to humble yourselves or go work in a nicer area. It costs NOTHING to be kind. Don't treat customers like they are less than you, because I can asure you with your ugly attitudes, you, my friends, are the less diserables.

Every one was super nice and very helpful. My rental truck had a tire sensor issue and I was able to have someone check the tires before I drove it. I got there at 7:58pm right before they closed and they were still happy and willing to take care of me. I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth everything went.

The facility was clean and organized, the Supervisor was great, the men getting the truck were very good. The staff that managed the front desk should be fired! Their incompetence was second to none, picking at there finger nails, eating soup while pretending to pay attention to the customer, getting the reservation wrong three times, creating a much extra paper work and much, much wasted time. I was given a truck that had a hole in the sidewall and didn't call right away. I got to where I was going then called. Was charged 300 more dollars. That was not right. The next day I had to call again because the inner back tire was flat upon inspection I found there was no valve core in the valve stem. Explain how I caused either of flat tires. I will never rent from uhaul after being treated so unfair.

The unit I rented was on second level and I had to use a portable stair crane that was heavy and very hard to maneuver to access it. I would not recommend this to any elderly or persons with limited strength!!!

When I booked the space I was not told it would require climbing a ladder to access the unit. Being over 70 years old that was not possible. I was able to get 2 smaller units at ground level but they are not 6 ft high, unless you are counting the area above the ceiling supports.

Renting the truck worked out great but I was told by a employee that after I returned the truck that night I could call or make a reservation to obtain a storage that same night and would get a month free since I rented a truck. I cancelled a different storage I had at another company to get the month free & what seemed very convenient but was told by customer service I had to pay $69.99 and that they didn't have access to the month free deal & I was given false information. I was/ an upset for wrong information and inconveniencing me.

This facility is a dinosaur! Having senior citizens like myself have to move heavy objects up and down an unsteady rolling ladder is ridiculously dangerous and incredibly difficult!

The assistant checking me in was very friendly. She provided clear instructions. She was very helpful. I reserved everything online, but she wasn’t seeing it in the system, so we had to it again, and when I tried accessing the unit, the second check in wouldn’t let me in( but one of the guys assisted me. Overall, good experience.

No elevator at U-Haul Moving & Storage Of El Cajon. Lock Latches of my unit was uneven, spent 20 minutes trying to put the lock on latches of the unit door. Staff member had to use a drill to enlarge the diameter of one latch, so it could work. Storage building is like a maze, hard to find your unit. I spent 2hrs there for 15 mins job - 5 boxes to be put in to the unit. I got very frustrated with the whole situation. Someone was trying to break into a unit- it turned out to be theirs, as they lost keys. My overall experience at this storage was not good. One Staff member was very nice and helpful tough. (that is why 3 stars otherwise would have been - star).

Access to unit end at 10pm. There are no elevators to load items on the upstairs levels so people are limited on what can be stored in upstairs units. All you have is a stair ladder to climb up with boxes for the upstairs units. They put away loading carts at 7pm despite the access to unit being open until 10pm so even though you get in there are no carts available to use to load faster. Price board at the counter only displays upstairs unit lower prices and does not show that price is higher for bottom units. entrance into store shows prices but at first glance it does not make it clear that prices are different for top and bottom units. All prices should be displayed at the counter where you pay so it's more obvious what you are paying for. The guy working the computer forgot to say prices are different for bottom units when providing info on storage options.

This staff has been working an operation to steal from units whom can’t afford insurance. The manager smiled as she let me know there was nothing she could do, meanwhile neighboring unit was stealing my things, as she knew. The lack of customer service and attitude the site manager Pricilla gives is horrible, May God have mercy on her for all the wrong doing that’s being done here at this location.

My only issue with this place was the access cards sometimes would not open the doors. The sliding door was stuck a few times and had to use the man door. We still had access to the place. The inside is a very nice temperature and makes one comfortable with storing sensitive materials. If I had to store again, I would use this place again.

Questions 4&5: I hope the unit was clean? I wasn't able to enter the building with my access code - I got an error at multiple doors. The bigger problem is that the loading area was not secure, there was almost no parking on site, and there were folks loitering in the parking lot. I wouldn't feel comfortable using this facility by myself or at night, and cancelled my contract. Phillip was very helpful over the phone. I will not be recommending this location.

I ve rented from numerous storage facilities throughout the years. The U Haul location that I now store my belongings , is patient , user friendly and pricing. Very understanding. Most people that are in need of what they renting are in need of what they are selling and my not have the money or time to help, they are not out to present another problem by over charging on their pricing. My unit was robbed as well as several others. They cut open the top of my unit and walked and took what they wanted. I mean where was the staff??? Why did no one see this on camera?People are living in there units. Hanging out in the unit all day. Then sleep there at night. They bathe in the bathrooms. The place is horrible

All good, but on day of 1st access, one card didn't work: 2 attempts made in office to authorize new card before it was successful. Also, no carts available for us to transport items from car. Finally, a homeless person is evidently renting a unit to live in, suggessted by a bicycle with a loaded cart on back and an open door with clothes hanging and a light inside but clear that the person was making an effort to stay quiet. This was on Thanksgiving Day.

There were homeless people all around the storage area. Several were inside the space where storage “lockers” were. One man was clearly taking a bath/changing clothes on one of the stair cases used for getting up to lockers. There was no way for me to access the unit let alone feel as though it was safe for me to even use the lockers. I felt like it was interesting that not only 5 minutes after close did it become basically a homeless village. I would not recommend this location to anyone.

Storage is clean. Some of the staff our friendly. But when i called to reserve a 10" foot truck and auto transport she's over chanrging me. For the equipment rent shes charging me for almost $800 one way. But when i called the uhaul office they only charge me for $514 for everything. I got lots of experience at uhaul offices in just one day. 3 different locations. The uhaul main office when she called me she asked me why they over charging me. I dont have answers to give her but then i cancelled those reservation that is overcharging me.

the storage rooms are not lit and there is no electricity in them But I understand you have reasons for doing that I had a few problems with access card as it stopped working But I guess the cause was my cell phone or some other demagnetizing source. AWESOME storage and customer service. Just wouldn't recommend, because if the area. Those sleeping outside, homelessness and those trying to get inside. Due to the homelessness and since it's not gated, I decided to leave to another place like Public Storage. You have amazing prices and good storage customer service, Just not as safe for customers at this location. My wife could not come by after work or when it gets closer to the evening. Even during the day there were homeless people in the area trying to get into the place without a key when the doors slide open.

I honestly dreaded the whole part of getting it set up and all the admin fun. I was literally pleasantly surprised at how quick it went and the customer service provided. My expectations were exceeded tremendously. I have been in other facilities and it felt like the pain of going to the DMV. Not here. A great helpful staff that honestly made this as painless as possible. Great team.

I am so grateful to UHaul (El Cajon, CA). During the pandemic I was without work and thought I had lost everything in my storage due to not being able to pay the monthly fee. I got so behind that I just assumed my things were already auctioned off. Instead, we were offered the deal of a lifetime, pay $100 and we could empty our storage. I was almost $900 in the hole and they just wrote the rest off. I couldn't believe it. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Unit across from ours was being lived out of, notified uhaul & they noted the account but said a lot of people live out of theirs in that facility. Homeless everywhere & human feces in parkinglot.

It was super easy to access our pods. The only reason for the average rating is because one of the pods’ lock broke and it was obvious that it opened up and stuff had to be put back inside.

The door was open to walk in almost every time I went to my unit. The equipment I had to use to access my unit was in poor condition, stairs would barely lock down. Rats & bugs. I DIDN’T FEEL SAFE.
