Although it did get busy, Ms. Hardie acknowledged each customer and provided us all with the tools to expedite our visit.

It never was I just kept getting calls asking me did I want my unit and asking for payment! I have smoke coming out of my head! This has really messed up my credit! Daniel BDrop off process was difficult. Online wouldn’t allow me to select this location even though it was only 3 miles from where I was. Basically had to beg to be allowed to drop off the trailer instead of driving 15 miles in the wrong direction. Maybe make it company policy that one way drop-offs cannot be refused. You know…customer service. Side note - the man that actually checked in the trailer was pretty great and actually backed the trailer into a tight spot when I wasn’t able. He needs a raise.

DOUGLAS CWe rented 2 hand trucks with our van for our move but they had no hand trucks when we arrived. We had to use appliance trucks which were heavy and cumbersome to lift and move. Also the truck smelled strongly of cigarettes and a very strong fragrance to cover up the cigarettes. Both gave me headaches. The people working out in the lot helping to find and return the van were both very kind and helpful.

ADRIENNE T | Overall ExperienceMy truck required oil change so that warning was flashing while driving which makes somethings like cruise control and mileage reading harder. It was difficult to know whether the parking brake worked as you don't see any indication, I had to google it before driving, may be just print a small instruction placard saying which action to do to engage vs disengage (older models only). The check-in process actually took quite long taking photos and verifying information multiple times. It would be really beneficial if my license information for example can be saved for future visits till it expires and you can work with DoT to get an API to verify information. Instead of photos of the trucks may be a video or a visual scan might be way faster? In the end I will do it all again ofcourse but would be nice to save some time at both ends.
Mayank SEverything had to be done through the app so there was no real reason to have any people there...aside from their un-helpfulness. There was one extremely helpful guy who located my vehicle AND got me the key for it. The vehicle was mostly clean on the inside but as for well maintained, no. A message to "Service Stabilitract" came onto the speedo as soon as i turned the vehicle on. The rep told me not to worry as that was concerned with towing safety. Later, as I was 20 miles into my journey from DC to Connecticut i hit a rough patch of highway, immediately triggering a "Service Traction Control" message on the speedo. And for the next 5 hours, every bumpy section yielded the same. . On a different note, the GMC van my vehicle was based on is an awful bit of engineering...let's just leave it at that.

Why would I get a confirmation number and then it's given to someone else? I thought the online process would be faster, but it ended up being the opposite.

U-Haul reps also did not listen when gave the proper mileage expected and used

I tried booking a truck, returning the truck, closing out my storage unit and I wasn't able to do any of those things through the app. I called the U-Haul hotline to close out my storage unit and I was told that it was successfully closed. I then got a call from this specific U-Haul location 2 days later saying that I did not close it and the person on the phone lied to me saying that I did not remove my lock when I had said lock in my hand during the call. She clearly did not check to see if the unit was cleared out and unlocked before calling to tell me that I need to make a payment. Every time I went to this U-Haul, the service was very slow as well. U-Haul as a whole needs to make their app better but also the workers need to be more efficient, diligent, and work with integrity.

When I told her that I was a couple states away and couldn’t do anything about that, she got mean and stayed mean until I asked her to just close the unit for me. It was a weird and uncomfortable call, but everything seemed fine other than that so I guess maybe that employee was just having a bad morning or something, I don’t know. Everyone on site was super helpful though and I was able to move my things to my unit rather quickly.

Cecelia C | Online Move InThe worst experience of my life this place smells gross, random alarms will just scream, the garage doors don’t close while you’re loading and unloading so all you things must be supervised at all times, also the staff is rude and doesn’t give you the time of day. $100+ dollars a month for what? I think my grandmas basement in a flood is a better place to store my things. Additionally, my dispute was never properly resolved with this branch, instead of the $250 in refunds that were verbally promised to me, I received a $50 credit as if I’m ever using these services again. My move out experience was absolutely awful, the details of which are described here: On September 1, I arrived at the facility at roughly 7:45 am to move the belonging out of my unit. When I walked inside a noticed a note tapped on the door regarding an elevator outage. As I went inside to investigate, this turned out to be true. At this point in time my moving crew was only a half hour out and it was too late to tell them to stand down. As a result of the broken elevator, I was unable to move my belonging out of my unit because it contained many large items including tables, chairs, a sofa, a bedframe and my mattress which was essential because at the very least, I needed something to sleep on. I spoke with the attendant at the desk who was completely unaware that the elevator was completely not operational. After speaking to the manager on duty, he assured me the repair company had been notified but that he had not heard back from them thus he couldn’t estimate when the elevator would be repaired. I left my name and number with both the manager and the attendant; they assured me they would contact me when the issue was resolved. Later in the day my mother stopped by for a status update as we hadn't heard anything and were trying to make plans for moving. The women she spoke to suggested I could expect a partial refund as well as reimbursement for an air mattress as I had nowhere to sleep given my mattress and bed frame were trapped on the third floor of your facility. We called back several times during the day of September 1st, attendants continued to provide the same message that they had not heard from the repair company and that they could not estimate when the elevator would be functional. On September 1st I bought an air mattress to sleep on but I was so distressed at the thought of sleeping in an empty apartment alone that I chose to stay in a hotel. The next morning. Sept. 2nd, I called again, and the lady I spoke to told me the elevator was up and running and appeared to have no knowledge of it ever being down. This made me upset because not only did the attendants not follow through on their promise to call me but at this point, I was unable to schedule movers for the day. When I finally rescheduled the movers, I was charged an additional $500 for making a short-term appointment and for delayed moving expenses. As stated, U-Haul has only given me a $50 credit for over $650 in inconvenience which is in no way shape or form compensation for what they gave done

When I told the front desk I was moving out, they said I was good to go and they would check the unit out later and I got a phone call several hours later that because I hadn’t told anyone I was moving out, they would send my paperwork online. Of course I had told them in person I had moved out, but that was fine. Moving in was a different experience. The elevator was broken, and staff were super unhelpful as to why or for how long it may be broken or to offer alternative options. Therefore, moving in took around 6 times longer than moving out and much more physical effort. I basically was wishing between the time I moved in and the time I moved out that it wouldn’t be broken when I had to move out. Luckily, it was working that day. There was also a leak from the ceiling in front of my storage unit the entire time, but none of it went into the unit itself which was good.

Except that inside the 10 foot unit was a beam foundational to the structure of the building that was at least over 2 feet. I know this because my couch didn't fit. Systems were down. We couldn't get a new unit. We tried everything we could to fit the couch in. Eventually the system started working again, and we were able to get a new unit. But you guys misadvertized the size of the unit and cause pretty massive inconvenience for me and everyone in my group. I will do everything I can to never have to rely on uhaul again. It seems quite unethical to charge for a 10 foot unit that's 7.5 feet in actuality...

Somehow, I was supposed to use rickety movable stairs to place furniture into a box 10 feet off the ground. There were also no carts that could actually move a piece of furniture, just those that carry Sheetrock and wood at Home Depot’s. No, this was not made clear when I reserved or of course I would not have. Further, my next door neighbor was sleeping in his unit! Feeling unsafe in a poorly lit warehouse with a sleeping stranger, and bewildered as to how I was going to be able to get anything into this locker I booked at another company’s nearby location which is clean, well lit, and well appointed. Seriously, what is going on at this location. It’s the last thing I needed after and long drive. If you’re considering it, just don’t. Even free it’s not worth it.

jacob w | Overall ExperienceThe online process was very smooth, but when I arrived at the unit there were several issues. First, the elevator was out of service and my unit is on the second floor. This was a huge issue as I had a lot to move into the storage unit and it was an enormous amount of work without an elevator, especially when I expect one and paid for a unit with elevator access. Also, no one notified me that the elevator was broken and the facility didn’t do anything to help mitigate the situation. Second, the key pad system to enter the building doesn’t seem to work very well. I and other people trying to access their units had issues being let into the building with our code with the system saying “access denied” or “see manager” when we followed the instructions to enter with the code. When we tried to have a u-haul employee help us, they had no idea how to help either or what was wrong. The only option was to try several times to open the door every time we had to enter the building and wait until it eventually worked. Third, there was a pipe/ac tube leaking outside my unit and slightly into my unit. I hope that doesn’t flood into my unit very much and ruin any of my belongings. Overall, the facility was clean and well air conditioned, which I was happy about.

This happened to me and ruined my move in plans. I had to take extra vacation from work to continue the move the 2nd day, I had to find a secure parking for a 10ft truck, which is not something easy to find. I called customer service, called the storage location the day of and then the following days, no one ever replied or heard my concerns. Definitely not a good service or a good location to store belongings becuade access hours are random and unoredictable.

It was incredibly frustrating from start to finish and my worst experience with U-Haul to be honest

I set my account to autopay, they collected the money on a Monday and I was moved out by that Saturday. I was told that, per U-Haul policy, customers are not partially reimbursed for vacating early, and that Uhaul will resale your unit (that is paid up through the month) to someone else even though they are not giving you the money back for leaving early. That is not a well thought out policy and needs to be stated clearly upfront.

First, I was told upon arrival that the storage unit I reserved was no longer available and that I had to select a more expensive unit. This is something that should have been communicated well in advance so I could better assess my options, including another location. At the very least, I would have appreciated a credit honoring the original rate for the bait and switch. Also, the nearest elevator in the storage facility was not working when we arrived and my movers were stuck on the second elevator (along with another customer) for more than 25 minutes before someone came to get them. As I result, I incurred unnecessary mover charges for the delays and found myself hauling my items up the steps while waiting for both elevators to be fixed and my movers to be freed.

When I arrived at the location, the code that was given to me did not grant me access to the facility even though they said I would have 24 hour access. I tried calling the general manager but was sent straight to voicemail every time I called. I eventually was able to talk to customer service but they informed me that they couldn’t do anything except try to contact the general manager of the facility. I was not happy with this response so I asked to speak with a supervisor. After telling the customer service agent that I wanted to speak with a supervisor they put me on hold and then came back and asked me to try the code again. It worked. Something occurred behind the scenes after I had to literally ask for a supervisor to get anything to happen. My experience with U-Haul recently has been extremely disappointing and has required way too much effort to make using their services worth it.

Also one of the storage units was filled with webs and spiders and there was a water leak that destroyed my mattress, causing me to throw it out, an expensive mattress. It also rusted out my workout metal equipment. My wife and I experienced lots of attitude from these people from day one, from several different employees. Would not ever recommend this place to anyone.

Then, my access code wouldn’t work and they couldn’t fix it because the system was malfunctioning. Then, all of the elevators were broken so they had to change my unit to one on the first floor because there were no elevators that we could use to access the other levels. And because they couldn’t get my access code to work, I had to have someone stay inside the building at all times to trigger the automatic door so we could re enter the building to fill my storage unit. The staff were helpful but the facility is so poorly maintained to cause all these problems. Overall, an hour of my time was wasted after I had spent 10 hours in 90 degree weather moving and loading my truck. I would never choose to use u haul storage again after this experience.

Real talk, if the receipt of the refund was initially sent, then I wouldn't have made multiple stressed out phone calls to ask for the refund receipt. Just saying. When we brought our stuff in, however, we discovered the metal ladders near the storage unit were very rickety, unstable and open ended. If was very dangerous for the men involved in the move and we were just lucky no one got injured. Please please to the management, examine each ladder and try to climb up them with a box and a mattress and see how you do, then put two people on the ladder hoisting stuff and see how it goes. Very disappointed and planning to do negative reviews in multiple social media locations if my concerns aren’t responded to.

LATAMRA T | Overall ExperienceOverall, this is a very nice facility. My unit is in the new building which is super clean and modern, so that was really nice. But the online check-in process was a mess. I checked in online the night before and got my unit number and access code, but upon arriving to the facility, found it very unclear as to how I actually access my unit. There were 3 call boxes on the wall with no indication as to which one I needed to use. When I tried the call box that seemed to be the correct one, I got a message saying "access denied, not checked in" even though I already checked in online. Thankfully, the employee in the office was a HUGE help as she walked over with me and showed me that I first need to "check in" again by entering my access code into a different box, then needed to dial my code in again at the main call box to actually open the door. There were zero signs or placards that indicated this on the wall, so I would have never figured that out. She then walked me over to my unit only to find that it wasn't ready for move-in. The facility padlock was still on the door and the free disc lock that was supposed to come with the unit was not inside the unit. The funny thing is, I had already purchased a disc lock at the location I picked up my truck from from because they told me (incorrectly) that a free one does NOT come with my unit. The wonderful employee yet again took care of me and made sure I got a refund for the lock I had purchased earlier. So in other words, had I relied on the online check-in process and arrived at the unit after the office had already closed, I would have been TOTALLY screwed because I absolutely would not have been able to get into my unit. Again, the very friendly and helpful lady in the office saved the day for me, explained everything, and got me all squared away, so the overall 4 star rating is thanks to the great staff and the fact that the condition of the facility and unit is really nice. Everything would have otherwise been smooth but it appears there is serious lack of coordination and communication when checking in online (I had similar problems when I went to pick up my truck at another location despite already checking in online and opting for mobile pick-up). If the office/store weren't still open, this could have been a total disaster that would have left me stranded. Shout out to the wonderful staff member that took initiative to get me all squared away. She turned a frustrating experience into a positive one.

Previous storage facilities I have worked with who have promised certain access hours have a generator in case utility outages occur. I understand the utility caused this outage but the storage facility is ultimately responsible for customers being able to access their belongings during the days and times as promised in the customer agreements. I was extremely dissatisfied with how this outage was handled by UHaul storage.

I moved my things out and had two weeks left to sweep the loose items out so I wouldn't be charged a cleaning fee. Even though they received their money, they wanted to close out my contract before time so they could rent it out to someone else, without refunding me any money for the days I already paid. Basically double charging for the same unit. I will NEVER use them again for a storage place. Too many other companies give better deals and better customer service. The customer service at that particular UHaul location was horrible.

I didn’t like that the unit was upstairs. I gave the experience a high rating only because Tiffany Harrison was so helpful at the place. If not for her I would have rated the experience poorly. Also, I was told I would get a month free, rented the truck and only need storage for 6 days. However I was charged over $110. That’s on top of what I paid for the truck. Someone should look into my charges.

abdelaziz r | First Impressions1. The requirement to use the U-haul sold crescent lock is a scam and money grab by Haul and its dealers. I have had storage units for a decade using my own combo lock and never had a security problem. The idea that the required lock provides better security is a lie. 2. The movable ladder necessary to access my second level space constantly wobbled making it unsafe to access my unit. There was not another ladder available use. this is unsafe and reported to the facility. 3. The storage unit door did not close properly and align so the lock could be easily installed. This was reported as well. It took two of us on a the above rickety ladder to push the door enough so it would align and lock the unit door. Such a basic. Get it right. 4. We were only shown (1) elevator. Lots of waiting. this is a converted 3-story warehouse and if another elevator exists we were not shown it. More focus on making money and less on customer service by investing in necessary vertical transportation. Really not sure I'm not going to move back to the Cube Smart a few blocks away. I made the move to U-Haul because I already rent trucks from here and thought it would be more convenient. Was not the experience I had at all.
