Unfortunately, this was my worst encounter with U-Haul EVER! I rented a 5x8 covered trailer for a 440 mile journey with a 1500lbs load from this location. 1. Customer Service was dismal. Door was locked while 3 customers collect in the parking lot in the middle of the afternoon because the cashier went to lunch. No sign on the door or regard for my scheduled pick-up time, just a locked door was my first impression. 2. No one on staff was able to provide proper product advisement on the Tow Hitch products they sell behind the counter. I was told to go to Home Depot to by a TS1 Tow Hitch with a 7500lbs rating which I couldn't find and ultimately wasted my time because what she had at her U-Haul location would work just fine as I learned from another U-Haul location. 3. The U-Haul employee that picked out and hooked-up the U-Haul tow trailer to the back of my vehicle did not assess the condition of the trailer properly before hooking it to my trailer. This single safety oversight by a U-Haul employee extended my 2 day U-Haul reservation into a 3 day rental and my two night hotel reservation was wasted because of the unsafe situation I was forced into by trusting U-Haul to provide me with the safe properly equipped products and services I paid to receive. Long story short, I didn't become aware of the state of the tires on the U-Haul tow trailer until it was loaded with 1500lbs of cargo. It was at that point I began to hear a constant bump coming from one of the tires when I drove my vehicle with the loaded tow trailer. I eventually observed two absolutely bald tires. A noteworthy 3-4 inch slice in the sidewall of a tire and a large patch of tire tread missing from another tire (I could see the woven fabric threads embedded beneath the missing 5-6 inch patch of tire tread.) I did not feel safe getting on the road Thursday evening as planned so I had to forfeit the 1st night of my hotel reservation and hope that by stopping by a local U-Haul in the morning I could get the tire issues fix. The next day I was barred from leaving the closest U-Haul parking lot and ultimately the immediate area until that afternoon because 2 U-Haul Employees, 1 U-Haul Manager, and a U-Haul subcontractor all concluded in their independent assessment of the state of the tires, that it was not safe for me to drive on those tires at all. Ultimately, I was forced to wait over 90 mins for someone to show up and swap the tires only to wait another 2 hours because my attempt at using uhaul.com/help to report and resolve my issue only resulted in them sending one tire when it was clearly communicated in writing and pictures that both tires were in need of repair. Needless to say my plans for the weekend were ruined and my 2 night hotel reservation wasted all because a U-Haul employee carelessly approved and hooked up a 5x8 tow trailer to my vehicle with tires that were in such a poor state when considering safety and function that 3 U-Haul employees and a U-Haul Subcontractor barred me from leaving the parking lot to start my 440 mile journey due to the unsafe conditions of both tow trailer tires. What can be done is I would like a full refund of all charges regarding Contract # 29672540 and to be reimbursed for my non-refundable hotel expenses.JACK M.

Staff friendly but not very efficient. I had down all the prep work by way of the internet the night before yet it took her 45 minute to get us in a truck and on our way. Facility was clean but only one person on duty when I was there at 3:00. At one point she was trying to serve 2 other customers. Got in van and it was blocked by a truck. Called for help but eventually had to wiggle out from behind another truck to leave — cutting deeper into the 4 hours. Communication via the internet is way to complicated and cumbersome. Waited an excessively long time to get my truck - around 45 minutes. When I finally got the keys, I was directed to the wrong truck, more time wasted. When I asked someone to help me find the correct truck, we found it behind the building, tucked literally up against a wall with a sign in the windshield. When the vehicles are returned make sure they're clean. I'm a nonsmoker and the vehicle smelled of Cigar smoke. The cabinet itself was dirty and spilled coffee was all over the cab. Just like you check the gas gage & mileage. Check the cleanest of the cab.Tami B.

The day before my scheduled pick up, U-Haul changed my pick up location from K St. in DC to this location in Maryland. Upon arrival, there was no truck. The staff were extremely accommodating given the set of circumstances presented to them by U-Haul, driving to another location to retrieve a truck for me to use. Reserved a truck, utility dolly and furniture dolly a month before needing it and when I arrived they told me they did not have any dolly's available. Made my move so much more difficult without the proper equipment that I reserved to have for my move. I also reserved a drop off location and for the one listed in Manassas VA and was told that it is not a location that they could find. I dropped the truck and equipment off at the location I reserved in Manassas VA. I was charged extra since they put the wrong location down for drop off. Very frustrating!BRIANPHILLIP H.

It would be great if your company actually had the items you sell online during the reservation process in store. I reserved a mattress bag and dolly for my move only to arrive at the store the following day to neither of them being in stock. Thankfully there was a home depot close by. It was also rather annoying to have to provide the same information over again in store that I already provided during my reservation online. Also, the card reader was broken and the cashier said she didn't have a cash drawer so she had to type my numbers in by hand. I don't think this process is safe when it comes to protecting customer information. The workers recieved an emergency call from a customer who had rented one of your vehicles and they took the call over speaker phone which I thought was very unprofessional with a store full of customers who could hear. Open on time!!!! The location opened about 30 minutes late. Also the price was predatory. It went up $100 in a week! In addition we were required to pay for 3 days when we only needed it for 1 or 2. We even returned it early when we were called because someone needed it. In all I felt like I was a customer for a company that did not have competition. When a reservation is made the truck/equipment should be ready when customer arrives for pickup. Mine was not. The keys had to be located which meant I was being charged for time that I wasn't using the truck. Also, after hours checkout was not explained. I wanted to do my own to ensure I wasn't over charged. My first encounter at this U-Haul was with a lady at the counter named (Minyan) who was extremely rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. She showed me to my storage space, but never mentioned that I needed a code to enter. She complained the entire time that she was helping me. Several times I went to the storage space and never needed a code to enter; I just walked through the door. Anyone could do the same, there was no security as far as accessing the store area. I rented my unit for several years and for the most part, my experience was not bad, sometimes the employees could be a little rude however, I found it interesting that on my move out day after closing my account with the manager (Cory Weaver), and receiving my receipt from him, I made the comment to him "it might be nice for you to thank me for my year's of service", he looked at me like I had three heads and kept doing what he was doing, not saying a single word. When my belongings were removed from the storage unit (#1948), there were a LOT of mouse droppings all throughout. I will have to launder all my blankets, comforters, bedspreads, and clothing. I'm not happy with that at all, because it will just be an added expense for me. A female and male employees said they would clean out the unit because there were a lot of droppings on the floor. I'm hoping I won't find holes in my items!! I wouldn't recommend anyone to store things at your facility for those reasons.Willa D. | Overall Experience
