Horrible rude and almost willfully unhelpful staff, facility dangerously hot in summer months with no access to water free or otherwise like in vending machine. Suffered heat stroke while moving into unit. The location was great- no problem with pickup or drop off. There is area for improvement with reservations online matching the availability. I was trying to rent from a closer location and was switched without checking with me. Also the one way seemed to be an issue for cargo vans and that would have been nice to know. The staff try heroicly to take care of clients. No managers were around to assist new staff (weeks on the job). Keys to the reserved 10' truck weren't on the rack and had to be located outside the building. Took 45 minutes to process the paperwork. Too few staff. I reserved a cargo van on 6/5/21 and when I arrived I was given a van that was not clean and was filthy inside. The representative gave me another van that I used for the day. I returned this van that afternoon at 3:30 pm and a worker told me to leave the van and keys in the return line. On Friday, 6/11/21, I got a call from the store asking if I would be keeping the van longer. I advised them that I had returned the van the day I rented it and the caller promptly hung up. Unsatisfied with how the call ended and concerned that I would be charged for more then I should, I immediately took time out of my schedule, left my office and went to the store to resolve this matter. After talking with another representative at the store, who was confused about UHauls records of my rental, finally figured out that the van was returned. I was then asked if I remembered how many miles I had driven and I believe fortunately for me, I had taken pictures of the van, mileage and gas gage upon returning the van on 6/5. This experience was very inconvenient for me. I have used UHaul many times in the past and while I assume this was an isolated incident, I hope my future use of UHaul will be a better experience and more like tge one that I have grown accustomed to. We signed up online and paid for a unit in your Erie St facility. We received an email with the access codes (but no instructions on how to use them) and were told that our unit was unlocked and ready for us. When we arrived, we had trouble figuring out how to get in due to poor instructions and were only successful after another customer helped us. When we got to the unit, it was locked,. Repeated calls to customer service wen unanswered. The cell of the GM went to a voice mail and was never answered. The intercom was never answered and there was no one on site to help. We drove to the Broadway Office where Megan was very helpful, switched our rental to that building, and then showed us how to work the security system. I've left a detailed Google Review with my good experience. The experience was made worse by reading the bad reviews! My advice - read everything carefully and use the chat function to ask lots of questions ahead of time. This location has easy access to the expressways. Was easy to find for an out-of-towner, and had ample open space given the urban environment. The staff got me in and out with no stress or worry. P.S. one of the check boxes above was "was the equipment clean" - well no. This is a car hauler meant to be driven on. It was clean enough and anything I had to touch was clean -- so I said "yes, it was clean."THOMASWARREN A.

The uhaul smelled clean! Which I was not expecting. The back wasn't dirty. The air conditioning worked well and the truck drove nicely. The drop off experience is chaotic. No one was in the parking lot at the return area at 4:30 pm. Signs state to stay in the vehicle upon return. The truck had several scratches, dents, and dings. The driver side mirror was cracked and only a sticker was placed on it to prevent further cracking. The person who checked us in, Rob, was rather awkward as he was trying to flirt with my sister. He made us late to meet our movers, all because wanted to go on and on about his tattoo and how he wanted to show her the design when we got back and continued to linger around her even after we spoke up that we needed to leave. The truck ended up breaking down at a red light; we had to cancel our movers, and overall just ended up having an already stressful day become even more so. This location is very understaffed. The staff do their best and are generally friendly, but the demand for trucks is higher than staffing. Trucks are frequently not filled with fuel and/or the noted amount on invoice is different than the amount of fuel in the tank. I have literally been given a credit to go get fuel because the tank indicator was on "E". Easily resolved by staff filling trucks with fuel when returned with less than half a tank. The only saving grace is that the trucks are generally clean going out.ERIKE L.

When I came to pick up the truck, I went out into the yard to find my truck. I finally found it plugged into a telephone pole. I went back in to ask if my truck was ready to go or not? I went to the same girl who had nobody in front of her, she immediately dismissed me! Telling me to go to the other girl. I shared with the young lady that the truck the other girl put me in was hooked up by a cord.... now all of a sudden the girl who dismissed me wants to know what's going on.. To whom this may concern, Yesterday, I rented a 10' moving van from the U-Haul in Albany, NY, located on Broadway. My reservation was from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. While I have never rented from U-Haul before, I believed it would be very easy based on what is advertised. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I arrived on site at 5:20pm and was using mobile pick up. The app provided me with the van number which I continued to search for in the parking lot. My van was all the way at the end of the lot, which was fine but after walking about 5 or 6 trips from the van to the office I was not happy. After locating my van, the app instructed me to proceed inside to the office for the keys which was suppose to be a brief and easy exchange. On my walk back to the office, a male employee asked me if I needed help and I explained the situation. First, he walked directly inside the office and couldn't find the keys. We went back outside to search for the keys, believing that the keys may be where the returned vehicles were. He told me to wait a few moments while we were outside while he helped another customer. I waited 10 minutes before him returning and saying to go inside and speak to the people behind the counter. When I went inside, there was a line and the employees were working at a snails pace. I tried my best to remain calm as I was unsure if this time was eating into my reservation time, worried I wouldn't have enough time to have my rental. When it was finally my turn, I explained that no one could find the keys to my van. The employee stated that was impossible. While she told me that this was untrue, I consistently told her that I didn't physically have any keys in my possession and if I could just get a different van because of how much time this was taking. The customer waiting behind me in line walks up to the counter right next to me and he asks me, "Are these the keys to your van because they are not the keys to my van?". He had my keys which is why no one could find them. I was infuriated after the way the employee treated me and it held true that it was a mistake on U-Haul's end. After concluding where the keys were, the employee printed my receipt and gave me a completely new rental. I was half way to the van in the parking lot when I noticed the keys and receipt were for a totally different customer by the name, Chris and for $323. My name is Hannah and my rental was only $45. It was around 6:10pm at this point and I had to return back inside. Luckily, the male employee was in the office because he straightened everything up for me and gave me the correct receipt and keys, and I was on my way almost an hour of trying to get my rental. Originally, I had another rental planned for this coming Monday but after my experience yesterday I will probably cancel and try renting from somewhere else. My first experience with U-Haul, especially at this location was very disappointing. I had some issues on my move in day. I was assured on Saturday 5/22 that the customer elevators would be in order by Sunday 5/23 which was the day I was moving into my unit with a full apartment of items. On Sunday when I arrived with my full UHaul I also rented there was no working elevator. I asked an employee inside who said "someone was working on it right now." I went back and waited for awhile by the elevators but no one was currently working on it. I finally went back inside and asked that someone operate a freight elevator because I needed to load my things into the unit that day. I am very displeased with uhaul as I got the storage unit and a truck. I was told that the lock would be removed off the unit so I could load my things and much to my suprise when I got to the storage unit after uhaul closed but storage was still open my unit still had a store lock on it which caused me to have to drive back to we’re I picked up my stuff which added more miles and took more gas. Staff member who helped us with our reservation was disengaged and very confusing and he was very poor at communicating. The 7th was extremely hot/humid and not suitable for storing boxes. The bill does not appear on the online account until the day it is due, resulting in an unnecessary late charge. Only an “average” rating due to the fact that services provided are just... “space”. Staff is excellent, but in reality, you have very little contact outside of setting up and closing accounts if you have a storage unit. They are very helpful otherwise!!! The building is very clean and accessible. It’s only my opinion that when rental rates increase, it should only be applied to new leases. My security access code NEVER works. It welcomes me when I enter the building but does not allow me access to the elevator. I have had to ask the counter help for assistance numerous times in the last 39 days. It’s annoying and inconvenient. On 10/7/2020 I got stuck on the elevator for more than 10 minutes. The elevator call for help button was not operational - which is dangerous, and illegal. I called and called and called and nobody ever picked up the phone. Although I have used your service three (3) times, there are a few things that I would like to express. I tried to reach someone at the desk, and no one picked up the phone so I pushed the help box button on the floor, and no one answered that either. Supposed I wasn't there with anyone and I was getting attached. No one would have helped me in time. Also, it is too hot and there is no air circulating in the building. I thought I was going to pass out with no air. Lastly, the doors on the unit are so thin and limp that I really didn't feel that the lock was really securing it. I arrived at my storage unit At the Albany location on broadway at 7pm, just as the office was closing. I went up to my locker to move my items into the unit, however there was a pad lock on the unit with a green tag that said “customer ready”. I tried to contact the general manager who was Supposed to be available for after hours assistance, however he did not answer his phone, his voicemail box was full and he did not respond to email or text message. I was finally able to contact the security company who monitors the building, the gentleman put me through to customer service where I waited on hold for at least 30 mins. I finally spoke to Coco at customer service who suggested I “remove the green tag” and continue to move my items in. Her advice was not helpful as there was a pad lock on my unit that required a key to unlock it. I explained this again and she put me on hold for a second time to see if she could talk to the general manager. She could not reach Shannon, but assured me a local employee was on their way. I waited for two and a half hours (30 mins until access to the building closed) and no one showed up to unlock the locker. I contacted customer service a second time and spoke to a man who sent me a 47second YouTube video tutorial on how to do a mobile check in with a digital lock. This was not helpful. Since not being able to move onto my storage unit on the day I planned, I was required to bring the uhaul truck I rented back home, increasing mileage on the vehicle and needed to wait until office hours opened before I could move in. I am extremely frustrated about the whole experience using uhaul. It was a major Inconvenience for me to not be able to move in when I was supposed to. I would like to be refunded my total rental charge for the uhaul truck and 4 months rent free for the storage unit.Marlee S. | First Impressions

I rented a storage unit two days ago - squarely during the Covid-19 crisis and it did not appear that employees or the store were following NY state recommendations. There was no information about increased disinfecting protocols (and it looked like there were none in place - floor was dirty, there was a latex glove on the floor of the elevator (yuk)), employees seemed unaware of the need to use hand sanitizer before and after interacting with customers, and there were no signs letting people know they need to keep 6 feet distance. Customers stood on line as usual and the air system near the counter blew hvac air in our faces. People stood close in the elevators that rode to storage units. Covid-19 is spread by air and surfaces. The Broadway Albany Uhaul needs to up its game to keep its staff and customers safe. It seems well behind the curve compared with the communications from and protocols put into action by other large companies. Please take this virus seriously and protect your employees, your customers - your business! What steps will you take to make employees and customers safe? I would like to hear about it as currently I do not think the storage building I've rented from feels like a safe place.Karen W. | First Impressions
