I lived in this town for 7 years and the people who run this location have always gone out of their way to be helpful and pleasant. But the way the uhaul corporate conducts business is appalling and unacceptable. Tldr: Uhaul will not guarantee your reservation or guarantee the condition of the equipment under any circumstances. I made a reservationt to pick up a truck in Ames for a one way trip to Boise months in advance. I was told the day before that I would have to pick up a truck in a different location almost an hour away and at a later time than I had requested my pick up in Ames. When I called the second location to ask if the truck was there and how many seats it had and if the additional equipment I requested was available they informed me the truck was not there and they couldn't tell me how many seats it had because they weren't sure what model of truck was coming. The people at that location were also extremely professional and helpful. Additionally they informed me the truck was scheduled to be dropped off at roughly the same time I was scheduled to pick it up so if the other person was late I would be waiting. Needless to say there would be no time for the truck to be serviced. I drive commercially and understand what should be done for an inspection on equipment between jobs. I cannot believe uhaul seriously runs business this way; Loaning commercial vehicles out for cross country trips back to back with not so much as a walk-around inspection of the equipment. When I called the Uhaul reservation hotline to express concern about the situation I was told I had agreed to these terms already and the women I was speaking to just couldn't understand what I was upset about. I said, if I had to, I could be flexible with pick up time and location but I needed to be guaranteed the equipment would be there and be in working condition. She said it wasnt possible. The only thing she could guarantee is that I would get $50 if the equipment wasnt available. Eventually she said if I didnt like it I could cancel the reservation I made months ago for a truck I needed in order to move across the country the next day. Easily the worst customer service I have ever recieved. I canceled my reservation and happily paid almost twice as much to work with Penske. I will never use uhaul again and I take every opportunity possible to reccomend other avoid uhaul at any cost.AVERY M.

I did not have a reservation. I just walked in. It took the ladies five minutes to get in the truck. It ran perfect. Dropped it off 3 hours later and it took 3 minutes to check it in. This place has it going onLouis A.

I was 1/2 hr late for my online scheduled pickup. Checked out fine abt 8am and the gentleman said â€œjust return it sometime around this time .â€ Returned it 4 days later abt 8:45 am but the gal who checked me in charged me for an extra day, saying she had to go by the original scheduled time. I Had a problem with the roll up back door on the 6 x12 trailer I rented. The cable came of the door and made it impossible to close after completing loading the trailer. I was able to take the back bracket off allowing the cable that had jammed the door to become free so I could use the trailer. Trailer worked perfectly other than that incident. RonRonald F.

THIS IS NOT THE LOCATION'S FAULT - Just be prepared to have the Area/District U-Haul people call you the day or two before and tell you something is not available. They call it an online reservation, it is really more of a request for a reservation. If you are towing with your own vehicle, you are told one thing regarding if your vehicle can tow the trailer, but apparently the person who calls sees something else. On multiple occasions the web site said my setup would work, then when I am told what I reserved was not available, I was also told that what I wanted wouldn't work anyway. U-Haul is the only company that rents trailers you can tow with your own vehicle, so they can get away with this, but it does not make me want to use them in general in the future. BUT - Don't take this out on the local person, more than likely it is out of their control.KRISTOPHER M.

One pen used to hold trailer ramp in closed position did not slide out easily, neighbor removed with much difficulty. This was pointed out when trailer was dropped off so company could repair. This trailer had Texas license plate. Employee was apologetic, respectful, and reassuring .that repair would be made before being rented out again.MARY C.

The original vehicle that was requested was from a different location, it was switched to a farther away location, even with a discount in the mileage, the extra distance and gas increased the price by roughly $25-30 Employee informed us that the truck we were given had not been checked in properly and that they needed to correct mileage, fuel level, and scratches all over the vehicle. With the dolly and pads in the vehicle when they were not requested space was lost in our ability to pack additional items in the truck. All in all it felt like we were being nickel and dimed, would not recommend to friends and family.Samuel B.

There needs to be a backup system to online check in. I was having software issues. The representative I spoke with via phone was very good, but explained that she didn't have to option of a manual check in. Your representatives should be able to override the online system when they need to.Clark C.

The whole process was simple and painless and getting into the building and unit was quick. I wish the halls were marked a little easier to find where you unit is located but we found it quick enough. I will honestly continue to use the storage options as long as need be.
