The people checking me in and out were awesome! The equipment was in poor shape, handled poorly, dirty windshield made driving into the sun a challenge, the wipers needed replaced more than a year ago, and cause smearing when attempting to wash while driving. To summarize, your people are awesome, and your equipment is sub-par & not acceptable in my opinion.

The manager that was there was professional, nice, and knowledgeable. He answered every question I could think of and then some. The employees were also nice, they had the truck pulled up and ready to go for us fast and made sure we knew where everything was and how it worked. Great customer service all around. This location is one of the easiest to get in and out of and they have good availability, I made a reservation last minute and they still had what I needed. Would absolutely use this location again if I needed to haul or tow anything.

My experience picking up my uhaul was beyond terriible.I waited almost 2 hours to get the key for my uhaul then I got a key for what I thought would be for my uhaul but it was nowhere to be found so they gave me a key for a key for a truck that I did not reserve,I ordered blankets that I paid for and did not even get them..They said I need an emergency contact so I gave them that the person was sitting right beside me they said they tried to call them and they did not because they were sitting beside me the whole time so I had to give them another emergency contact so I did and they called another person sitting behind me because of all these delays I had to move all my elderly Mothers belongings in the dark not to mention my Mother was with me and she was without her oxygen fror an extra 2 hours through no fault of my own..then when I called to return my truck they thought I was suppose to return 2 trucks not 1..I talked to numerous people and not 1 of them was on the same page not even in the same ball park and after all this bullshit they only offered me 40 dollars back they might as well of offered me no money back never again will I use the uhaul place on Broad street in Johnstown

Last time I rented U-Haul it was years ago. By now - so much improvement! (: I rented a van. Spotless clean, floor had rubber non-slip covering, sencor lights inside so I was able to work after dark, they had installed wood bars-like on the inside sides, so I was able to tie things like paintings, lamps, so they did not fall over, also was able to atatch larger items, using rope. I was so happy with this improvement. It added so much safety and peace of mind while traveling on uneven roads. Fairly good mileage on gas. Van was almost brand new. Drives like a car. Employess did not give me no hard time with unnessesary paperwork or unneeded details. Was so fast, friendly, just like customers want it to be. Returning was met with friendly face, polite, fast. On 07/16/2025, I reserved a 10' x 10' x 8' interior, first-floor, street-level, non-climate-controlled storage unit for $174.95/month in preparation for my move to the Johnstown area on 08/30/2025. I made the reservation well over a month in advance to ensure a smooth transition. Unfortunately, my experience was anything but smooth. Upon arriving on August 30th with my fully loaded 15-foot U-Haul truck, I was told by the employee on duty, after a lengthy delay spent on the computer, that the unit I reserved was not available. He offered me an 8' x 8' unit instead, which was clearly not sufficient for my belongings: a queen bed and frame, washer, dryer, refrigerator, treadmill, couch, chair, ottoman, and over two dozen boxes. Before resolving the issue, the employee ended his shift and handed me off to another staff member. This happened right after the two of them had a casual conversation about how no one wanted to work the next day and how he planned to leave early for the beach. This exchange didn’t exactly inspire confidence, especially as I was standing there with all of my belongings and no viable storage option. Eventually, the second employee informed me of an available 8' x 16' x 8' unit on the first floor but said it was "weird", and they typically don’t like to rent it out. Given that I had just driven nearly three hours and had no realistic alternative, I had no choice but to take the unit at a new rate of $211.95/month, a significant and unexpected increase. The alternative, second-floor units, was not feasible due to narrow stairways, sharp turns, and the size and weight of my items. Overall, I was incredibly disappointed by how this situation was handled. Despite making a reservation well in advance, I was left scrambling at the last minute and forced into a more expensive option. The employees, while friendly enough, lacked professionalism and gave me little confidence that my reservation or even my stored belongings are being handled with care. This was a frustrating and stressful experience that I hope no one else has to go through. I would strongly encourage U-Haul to review their reservation and staffing practices at this location to avoid similar issues for future customers.

My only concern is that I was told a lock would be provided in the unit, there was not one. The employee told me they would get me one, but by the time I was done loading they didn't give it to me. Hopefully someone went up and put it on

My unit had no lighting at all, had to use a flashlight to see anything inside of it. The card for after hours access never worked, and had to call a number to get let in.

I rented my storage unit for 5+ years and didn’t have an issue until the past year, which unfortunately is the reason for my poor review. In 2023, the storage unit as a whole developed an issue with cockroaches. As someone renting a space for my belongings within this unit, I should have been informed of the problem. This would have given me the chance to decide what to do with my belongings. However, the staff at Uhaul failed to notify me and then tried to rectify and cover up the issue. After arriving to my storage unit, there were cockroaches around the general area, as well as inside my specific unit and all through my belongings. In addition, there was an empty can of fogger found in my unit. When I confronted the 3 staff members on duty at the time, they all denied knowing about an issue and it was only after one of them slipped up and said someone else had reported an issue, that it became clear that it was trying to be covered up. After this, a truck was offered to me for the day, so that I could move all of my belongings into the truck and re-fog my stuff and unit separately…free of charge, how kind! It was recommended by the staff that I wear gloves while moving my stuff and to clean everything thoroughly prior to using, because of the harmful chemicals that are used in fogger. This would have been awesome information to have about 15 minutes beforehand, when I was just in my storage unit handling my belongings. After this, I left everything in my unit for fear of spreading the issue into my car, house, etc. I reached out to management multiple times, left multiple messages and it was only after many attempts that I ever heard back. He told me that I should have been informed of the issue and that he was sorry that it happened. That was it. When I moved my belongings out of the unit, I requested a dumpster to be available, because after a cockroach infestation and chemicals being sprayed everywhere, most of my things became garbage. The dumpster would be available to me, but I was going to be charged to use it. It was only after I brought to his attention, why I needed the dumpster and what started this in the first place, that he didn’t charge me. I lost thousands of dollars of personal belongings and after renting for over 5 years, without ever missing a payment, all I received was “Sorry”. The customer service was absolutely horrible. I’m fully aware that things happen that are out of everyone’s control. However, when you have a business, it is your responsibility to notify the people who are paying to rent your space if issues come up. There was very little communication and when there was, it consisted of lying about the issue even existing or trying to cover up the issue. My monthly rental fee increased by about $32 and I can tell you, it was not going to pest control!

The units are on the pricey end for the size, but they even give you carts and allow you to pull up to load and unload. Still a great place to use storage. The manager and the employees were all very helpful.

You're lucky that I gave you a great rating, because I was NOT HAPPY. With the crew that took over at shift change!!! They kept messing around getting stuff together, which I did appreciate, however the had me sitting in the truck, with it running for about a hour! I was there at 12:30 to pick it up and load it and I didn't pull out untill I HAD to go in and ask if I could go. I didn't get to my destination untill 8:00pm and my help thought that I wasn't coming and wasn't here to help!!! I actually had to do it myself and it was a BIG struggle. I didn't get done untill 2:30am ad had to work on Monday!!!

We rented a U-Haul from Altoona Pennsylvania we pre-rent today paid for it. When we got there we found out they did not have our truck and they reserve it for the wrong day.! The guy at the register mean he was ignorant he didn’t care he was so nasty. He didn’t give a crap. No one had our size of truck anywhere near close. He was trying to get us to take a 20 foot and told us to go to the other U-Haul and storage on sellers Drive in Altoona . He was so ignorant and nasty. I will never ever go there again ever I will tell my friends about how ignorant and nasty he was how he screwed up.! we go to the one on Sellers Drive in Altoona Pennsylvania. They stated they had two trucks our size that we reserved. They didn’t care that the other guy was nasty. They just basically shoot us out the door they handed us piece of paper I went to go walk to a truck in front of the building. The lady handed me the keys and said it’s around the side, there were six trucks on the side. I had to go through four trucks to find out which one was mine by trying to start them all. She did not go over the mileage sitting over the gas nothing it was a quarter of a tank of gas we got the truck took it from Altoona PA to Johnstown Pennsylvania put $25 in gas in. It went to downtown Johnstown where we got the storage unit and return the truck when we got there. That lady was very very very friendly. Very nice when checking the truck in we was told we had it for two days we were told they had over I had a half a tank of gas and we drove it 180 miles! We had the truck for four hours not two days received receipt of the gas with a 25 minute put it back to where we got it from. We were so much charge for two days of a rental because Altoona never truck checked. The truck in that we got they also had four bags of the packaging blankets in it. The girl in Georgetown was very nice very friendly helped us out called the boss. Hopefully we get charged correctly. If we won’t know till it comes out of our bank statement. When we sold our house in Pittsburgh and decided to move back to Johnstown we need a place to store some of our stuff we found out Uhaul had some storage so we rented a storage unit and it was just the right size and we felt our stuff was in a safe place. Would've been 5 stars but I was told that I would get renewal notifications about upcoming payments being due. Instead I received nothing and my person of contact was notified that my locket was past due on rent before I was. That's poor business etiquette. Either remind your customers like you say they will be or reach out to them first to obtain payment. I made my locker payment the next day do there was no need to make it an issue as it became one.

The staff here were very friendly and helpful and the office was clean and well stocked. But our unit had no light in it and was pretty dirty when we came in. I reserved a second floor unit assuming there was an elevator and I was wrong, but it should be listed clearly that there is no elevator before you reserve it. There is also no garbage can or dumpster available, we had to take our trash with us.
