I think your trucks should be cleaned to perfection being that we are still dealing with Covid. This is the 3rd time I had a dirty truck at pick up. Also the gas tank should never be below 1/4 tank. We needed a guarantee we would have a rental truck, it should be made more clear with the amount of inventory at the North Bergen location (Lot is full of vans/trucks) that you will essentially be guaranteed a vehicle even though you can't technically say guaranteed. However when you can clearly see you have an enormous fleet of vans/trucks at this site, you kind of can indicate that.. I did rent a van as well on a different occasion and returned it to the same location with no issues!Kenneth Y.

I was having some trouble using my location while using my phone.Omar V.
1.- I had to do all paper by myself on line. 2.- my 3 major credit cards were decline. I told the clerk ( young lady) that probably the credit card terminal could be not working properly. 3.- I had to call my bank just to confirm all my credit are fine. The clerk ( young lady ) left me alone. I had to wait for the following available clerk. He entered my credit card numbers manually and it passed. 4.- he gave the cargo van key and I had to looking for it in the parking lot. After 10 mins. I got to get help . I dropped the van off after-hours and it was a very simple process. The facility was well-lit, with clear signs and overall looked very cleanDAVID G.
They spent 1.5 hrs to give me a ubox for loading, which wasted our time budget for moving. It adds a lot of complexities to our moving. 1. We had to call our apt manager to reserve the elevator again; 2. we got stuck into the traffic peak hours due to the delay; 3. We spent much more money on rental trucks due to the delayed return and extra gas cost. Overall, please make sure the management of uboxes are correct. The truck was smelling as if someone has smoked a ton of cigaratte. Further when I rented the truck there were cement marks on the exterior (left had side/driver side). However, when I returned the truck I was told that I had left those marks and because I had bought coverage, it was not my liability but otherwise it would have been my liability. I think it is U-haul's policy to scare customers to keep buying the coverage. Definitely not happy with the overall experience.Ritesh B.

The trailer was hooked up to my car, and during the hookup the employee made me buy this special part my car needed for over $30, only to later find out that my car has no wiring, and i can't pick up the trailer!!! The representative at the counter stood by and watched me struggle to complete the check in which I thought I completed when I arrived to pick up. She ended up completing the check in on her computer when it was clear to her that completing the process on my phone was impossible, even by her own effort as I handed her my phone. I wished she would've taken the initiative to help me complete the process on her computer when I initially told her I was having an issue. The equipment I was assigned was visibly cleaned. However it seemed as if someone had smoked a tractor trailer worth of cigarettes, over a few years time in the cabin which was nauseating to say the least. I understand that there is little control over this issue but I came home smelling like a pack of newports, and didn't appreciate being asked when I started smoking.Juan C.

Unlike an incredibly hateful experience with renting a U-Haul trailer driving across country having the flat tire in the middle of nowhere the tow truck driver not bother hooking the trailer back up and being threatened by a manager in Spanish something about child porn in order to try to cop out of the already agreed from the Western Washington regional office Eastern New York regional office that the extension would be a courtesy just pending a manager's rubber stamp I found everything about the experience incredibly distasteful. The U-Haul self storage folks in Bergen were fantastic and resolved the problem immediately with no further contact with the hateful manager in bensonhurst brooklyn. I will absolutely never do business with U-Haul again if I have to deal with that manager. For a women entering alone, I found it scary to walk to the storage unit in dark areas that only light up by sensors. The walkways are pitch dark until you walk through your area. When entering your storage unit, it has no light (i brought a flash light) but as you are inside the fear that the hallway light will cut off soon is concerning. I bought storage online and got the access code and number right away . On reaching the storage the location was not convenient. It was really far from the access door and was on the upper level. So i went to the check in location and requested the uhaul storage staff to change the storage location ( if available) . To which they told me that a better location is available at a slight higher price but in a different building ( at the lower level). I happily paid the difference for the sake of convenience even though i had already unloaded most of the stuff from the truck, i reloaded and went to the lower level location. To my surprise the updated location was also on the upper level( similar to the one i asked to upgrade). I thought it might be a human error and used the intercom located near the storage to get it rectified. The agent entirely denied that she had given me a ground level storage and when I asked why did she ask me to pay the different, she mentioned that its because the new storage doesn’t have a structural pillar. I never asked for a storage without a pillar, i only asked for the one at ground level to make it easy for me to access . The agent said this is what’s available and hung up on me. By far the worst experience! Reservations don't matter. Customer service is lacking. I made a reservation June 19th and showed up June 20th to personally see the storage unit size and was shown what it would look like and the lady was able to confirm my reservation. Showed up Sat (7/17) as my reservation was for that date and magically my reservation can't be found and my space isn't available. Customer service couldn't even assist, she wanted me to make a new reservation which is pathetic. When I got home I called the 800 U-Haul number and they said the manager would be calling me soon to attempt and rectify the issue. Haven't heard anything.. I had rented a truck and wanted to take advantage of your 1 month of free storage. The line was very long and it took an hour between the time I came in, got the truck, then had one of the employees, Javier, show us the units we wanted. I was in a time crunch for my move, so Javier told me that he could reserve the two 5x10 units on the first floor by calling on the phone in a moment to make sure we could finish the reservation process. He never called. When I called later, we had lost the units we were promised and had to settle for a 10x10 unit on the 2nd level, which the move-in twice as hard than if we had gotten the units we were promised. There were two buildings neither of which had any signs that tell which one is building A and which one is building B. Lady who checked me has incompetence that knows no bounds. My word. I had a reservation number and everything and it took her 15min anyway. She also had no idea how to do it, was on the phone with a friend the entire time, and ended up just leaving. Had to be saved by the guy who was moving cars and he helped me in 2min. - The lines are rediculously lengthy to even return the key or gain the truck. No structure in place. - Express lines needs to be implemented for 24/7 truck share options. No point of standing in the same line as those who are not there to get a truck and just taking 20 minutes to ask generic questions. You still need to go to the office and wait for an hour in line for your turn to check in for a truck as they need to still verify your license and do 2 phone calls. They always lie on the phone! Only wish it was accessible 24 hours. My work schedule keeps me out until late at night and I had to leave work early to get there while access was available, which meant I lost out on working and money. The staff is AWESOME especially Anky she is the best and José is very friendly and helpful as well. The only suggestion would be to fix the area in the doorways because the large chunks in the concrete make it very difficult to push or pull the carts to the door without loosing your stuff and if the edges were feathered down better the carts would roll much better. The people were helpful, but some parts of your set-up and process are pretty bad: - Access code on card incorrect (and not corrected yet) - Used intercom to call for assistance, intercom is directly below loudspeaker playing repeating message ...hard to hear person on intercom...someone did show up and help me though. - 2 hrs after moving in, my unit had your lock on it with message "come to office".....had to load stuff back into car and drive upstairs to be told my lock not allowed... have to use specific lock....why don't you just include the lock in the price and stop the nonsense. !!!!! - at 5:15 PM on Sunday 8/9 automatic sliding door to storage had yellow chain across it .... had to use single door to get cart in/out ...awkward - MAIN THING: The holes in latch on the door to my unit do not line up ...VERY difficult to get you lock into both holes....it is impossible without using force to get them to line up.Bradley B. | First Impressions
