LOWER YOUR REDICULOUS RATES! Home Depot is literally half of your price for the same truck, same amount of time. You advertise "19.95"! I paid almost $300 for 5hrs. use of your tiniest box van. That is rediculous and, imo, borders really lose to false advertisement and fraud. I will absolutely recommend the Oakland U-haul to anyone needing U-haul. But I will also be telling a friend not to be crazy and save his money using a newer, high mileage truck from Home Depot for less than half the price. Sorry.RICHARD M.

Everyone there was very helpful and nice. I ran into issues with the storage space unit number and card key access, all as a result wing and they were having technical issues getting it all up and running, but Barbara was always around to try to help as much as she can. I booked a truck for 6am-10am and was unable to checkout until 7am. I was told that I was late even though I was not able to retrieve the vehicle. During the checkout I was told that the truck needed to be back at 10am, which I signed up for 4 hours.We also had to hire extra help because we were an hour behind. After receiving the vehicle called corporate and was on hold for an hour, during this time the front desk called my phone to say that she gave me the wrong truck and could I bring it back. I told her that we were half way done loading the truck and she sounded, she said that the truck was going to San Francisco and she sounded baffle that I wasn't coming back and said okay. As you read this you can see that there are numerous things that can be fixed... 1. The truck wasn't cleaned properly 2.The time of pick up did not match the office hours 3. UHaul needs to provide some seating for customers who have physical needs such as chairs. I had movers helping me b/c of my age and walking disability and had to borrow the chair at the handicapped window in order to sit down while they made the move for me. The personnel at the UHAUL faculty were nice about it but it got me to thinking what if another handicapped person had come in? Then what? One or two additional chairs should be enough. The after hours return process: arriving literally 3 mins after closing (we stopped to get gas) the digital drop off is awful as it stands. Warn women not to do this alone...the opportunities for a mugger were stunning. I'm glad I asked my son to come with me :(Gloria Y.
Extend the hours for access to your u-boxes, 9am to 4pm is not enough time for some people to get their items, and try to pack those boxes, it is simply not enough time. You should have staff available to move those boxes during all of the hours that you're open. That would be much more convenient for customers. I arrived a little before 4:00 with a full van full of items, tomorrow that took hours to pack, to put in my U-Box that I had rented and was told that the u-box driver was leaving for the day and that I would have to come back tomorrow! I had to leave my things in the van, pay for an extra day!! I complained about it to the Manager when I was there and they did give me credit for that extra day. The whole thing was very inconvenient and frustrating for me! I think U-Haul should do a better job of providing better customer service for its customersKATHLEEN S.

My original reservation was for the location on International in Oakland but when I arrived they told me it had to be cancelled because the truck I reserved had been broken into the night before and catalytic converter was stolen. I had to quickly find a replacement and was able to book one through the San Leandro location. The staff here was much more attentive and knowledgeable. They helped me out to get going with my move. After such a terrible experience at the last location (and having to be charged double which I'm still resolving with my credit card company), I was happy to finally have the uhaul I needed.Jeannette B.

How you communicate to your customers on your site versus on site is very different. It should be clear about how I will be able to access my unit so that I can come prepared with the right truck & / or cars. A unit should be accessible using your trucks. Workers should also have the knowledge of how big the units are and what can/ can not fit. U-Haul doesn't give you a specific time that the boxes will be dropped off. The window is 7am-4pm. How am I able to plan anything with that? When they did come, the U-boxes are fairly small and there was no way my things were fitting in a single box, which the person I talked to did not convey clearly. When we realized everything wasn't going to fit, I spent all day on hold with U-Haul, waiting for someone to call me back, then being shuffled to another area that couldn't help and I had to start over. 8 hours later, I'd finally arranged another box for the next day. Then when they were being dropped off at my new location, they gave me no estimate of time, but called at 7:04 am to tell me they'd be at my house in less than half an hour. The app does not work. This was my second rental in a week and again the app failed. I filled out all of my info ahead of time, got to the Uhaul and the app could not detect my location. You guys thought of that solution it stated on the app "If your location is not detected scan the barcode" I ask a worker who checks in the vehicles where the code is and he says they don't have one. My storage experience was fine. The people who work there were hit-or-miss, in regards to politeness. My issue is with a "reservation" for a truck I had made that u-haul cancelled the night before. I even called a week earlier to confirm the reservation. My mother in-law had flown across the country to help us move, our entire place was packed and then I get a COMPLETELY unapologetic cancellation and have to deal with corporate for 45 minutes to no avail. I've been a storage customer of yours FOR YEARS. When I called the your local branch on Friday evening in tears, I was all but hung up on. I'm appalled. You left a huge stain on a very big moment for my family and I. I will submit a formal grievance, and have told anyone who has asked that u-haul is to be avoided. Everything was fine until lately. The unit flooded (no fault of them and it was handled) but I was offered free months for my unit etc and then week after week I had issues with them sending me late payment emails and then “going to Lien” emails over and over again despite the manager calling and telling me this “wouldn’t happen again and I am handling it” Yesterday was the final time I got such an email and the manager FINALLY actually fixed the issue so she claimed but I don’t feel confident in the way this place is run. My move-in experience was terrible. The first issue was that I placed an online reservation for a unit and on the day I try to move in I learn that the unit I reserved is not available and no reservation was made. My only comparable option was a slightly larger unit with higher cost. Because I was in need of storage immediately, I decided I had to sign up for something and accepted the higher cost but was not compensated for the lack of availability and absence of a reserved unit. My second, much worse, issue is that the online office and access hours are WRONG. When we moved in we were not informed that the information online was out of date. We believed we’d have access to our unit until 10pm and come to find out we only had access until 7pm, on the following day it was even earlier - until 5pm only. When I went to confirm this with the office staff all I was told was “the website is wrong.” There was no further explanation, no offer of help or accommodation, and from there only frequent reminders that we needed to be done moving in by 7pm. I do not understand how information as important as office and access hours are not updated in all relevant locations and how the staff does not proactively mention this to tenants to account for the gap. Ultimately, I decided to rent this unit because I’d already trucked my items to the location and needed immediate storage, but if I’d had more of a choice I would have gone somewhere else. I received helpful service from the people here, but the process itself was highly stressful and not transparent at all. When booking on the phone, the attendant was very short and only gave me closing hours for the location with no indication of how long the process would take to actually obtain the storage unit. After a very long and stressful drive involving roadside assistance, I arrived just before closing hours on Sunday, only to be told I was too late and would have to leave the loaded truck overnight and unload in the morning. Luckily the staff extended my hours so I could unload the next morning, but the immense stress and disruption of family members' schedules the next day could have been avoided if I had been told anything about the process ahead of time. As for the facilities, the first unit I was shown had not been cleaned, and the one I ultimately chose had some oil stains on the floor, but other than that seemed decently well-maintained and appeared to have plenty of security. I find it odd that the clearance is so low on the storage facilities themselves, since it would make sense for U-Haul trucks to be able to fit down into the U-Haul storage buildings, but I appreciated the carts that were publicly available. It was the worst customer interaction I have ever had. People at the front desk, they don't know what they are doing. This happened 3 times and on the 4th time, they told us that they don't have any available units on the 2nd floor that's why we need to take the elevator. The facility seems to have discarded and or stolen goods. I have no recourse it would seem. Facility’s own pipes burst and flooded the facility to include my unit. The way things played out I’m left feeling as though I paid for someone to take advantage of me and even steal from me both my money and my personal effects (many of which were BRAND NEW and yet to be utilized) but it’s a corporation so they are going to protect themselves from liabilities and not always do what is right by customers if it means compensating them or taking a loss to do the right thing. The STRONG feeling of having been taken advantage of and having deep regret that I trusted and paid this uhaul facility to secure and safe store my goods is the reason for my poor rating and STRONG desire to discourage others (especially military families and those who rely heavily on storage facilities with the majority of their property) to trust/utilize another facility and even company for your temporary or long term storage needs. If you don’t have trust what is there...? In the end based on the company’s insurance company handling me the way they did and how so much of my stuff is missing with no recourse I’m left realizing that when it comes to uhaul I’m just a little person vs. a big cold company.
