A very good and straightforward operation. All of the workers that I encountered were on task and helpful. The facility was clean and well maintained. Of special note was an older black woman perhaps n her 30s who seemed to be key to that world running as smoothly as it did. But, I never had a bad employee encounter. Thanks to all who work there as dealing w/a public who are in transition can not be easy. Finally, the homeless are thick on the ground in that part of Portland but I was never troubled by them. Please just run an honest and up front service. We walked away from the experience feeling nickel and dimed--getting a truck with a quarter of a gas tank makes it difficult to judge how much gas you will really need to fill up so the customer overfills ie UHaul gets a little free gas from every customer, the flat $10 "rental tax" added to the receipt without explanation, threats of $20 "convenience fees" scattered through the whole contract. Just charge a rate for the truck and a rate for the mileage. The shop itself was okay, the return line was packed with the same cars in the evening that had been there in the morning, but was otherwise stress-free.RACHEL K.

I had requested a location that was much closer to home and I had reserved the truck through the website. I then got contacted that no truck would be available after all so moved to Columbia. It would have been at least 10 miles less on my bill since Columbia was further away from my condo. Facilities at extra space storage are much nicer and more convenient all around. The pathway leading to the u-haul storage is busted and makes it extremely difficult pushing storage carts in and out (your items may fall off and become damaged) lighting could definitely use improvement and there’s barely any parking seeing 9 or so spots and at least 3 always seem to have a u-haul van in them that’s not in use. When I was late on my payment I called when I finally could make a payment and when I went to access my storage unit it still had a delinquent lock 12 days later and the employees working there all seemed to have attitudes and tried to get snarky and says they remove locks when people pay (which I had many days following my needing access to my unit which put me out more time than I anticipated) all around would not recommend for anyone looking for a good storage space experience definitely take notes from your competitors they’re doing things right. Customers should be made aware of what this new Truck Share program is and how it works. Came in night before to do all the reservation and paperwork and payment so could grab a truck first thing in the AM without delay, but was told I needed to finish reservation when picking up the truck. Still only a 20 minute delay.. Sounds like Truck Share, now that I've heard of it, may be the way I want to go next time?ANTHONY C.

Ordering online was a nightmare. I scheduled 2 container boxes about a month ahead to be picked up at a location before coordinating with my movers (also thru U-Haul). THREE days before I received a call saying that the location I ordered them to be picked up from doesn't have U-Boxes...not that they're out, but that they don't ever store them. Why list it on the website? The rescheduled location was TERRIBLY inconvenient and would cost my movers an additional 3hrs + me a few $$$. It wasn't until 45+ minutes on the phone that I received something that worked. Everything else went smooth besides the delivery - the driver was excellent & accommodating, but my scheduled date was 9/26 and my window was to be noon (9/26) thru noon (9/27) - which required me to book movers safely on Monday, and make me take a day off of work. The actual service was fine, but the scheduling of it all was quite the nightmare - especially when moving across the country is a stressful situation.Timothy B.

The 24/7 feature has been difficult at every UHaul location I've used. I've ALWAYS had to eventually wait in a long line and actually have a customer service person help me. Today's rep was fantastic. It would have been nice to just get to check in in a couple of minutes and go. Always takes 30+ minutes to be on my way.DJ M.

Using U Box to move cross country was a horribly nerve-wracking and frustrating experience and I will be cautioning all my friends against it. Uhaul staff is trained to mislead customers about the shipping process so anytime I attempted to get answers about my U Box thqt ended up being 2 weeks late, I was on hold for an hour and then treated to rude, unhelpful customer service. Additionally, I was charged for an extra month of storage while my U box was in transit. I have called, emailed, filled out contact forms etc repeatedly asking for a refund for this mistake and have still not received ANY communication about this. Uhaul's standard of quality is unbelievably low and they make it clear they don't care about their customers by always passing them off to â€œanother departmentâ€ and never actually solving the issue. A complete disappointment and waste of 3 grand.Nina I.

This is now my â€œGo Toâ€ U-Haul location: these folks have it dialed in. I was so impressed with the professionalism of the entire staff. Everyone there seemed to know what was going on and they worked hard to get you in and out as quickly as possible. They also were super helpful assisting another customer with some really good advice about moving a moped. The truck was very clean and overall, I was very impressed with their customer service! There were 2 employees working and it took me probably about 45 minutes to get to the front of the 5 person line. By the time I left the line was nearly out the door. People also kept coming in and going to the front of the line and interrupting the people, and the workers would just let them and then help them with whatever they needed. The Columbia location was great however I was originally sent to a location at 1520 NW Quimby Portland OR and there was no truck there and no attendant and after waiting 45 minutes on hold to speak to someone at U-Haul I was told to come to the storage at Columbia. I reserved a 15' truck and auto transport and was told I had both. I picked up my 15' truck and was told to come back by 7pm to put it back on after loading our truck. We finished loading, turned in our apartment keys and left to get the auto transport attached so that we could start our road trip. Upon getting there they now told us they no longer had our auto transport and my wife and I had to drive separately in a truck that was not safe for a long distance road trip. Uhaul was not quick to fix the problem and I had to do all of the work to find a replacement in a different state and they wanted to charge me twice as much initially. I requested one location that was an easy walk from my apartment since I do not have a car. My reservation was then switched to a different location without reviving a call or email notification. Fortunately a friend drove me to the new location but I waisted the first hour of my reservation doing this. I took picture and showed check in person at return, showed her the receipt for the 1.5 gallons of fuel I bought for just 17 miles driven and she assured me I wouldn't be charged. I have an access code not a card to swipe This location seems to be unclear on how access code works, I entered my code to check in at the center key pad as directed, however system denies me access to the sliding door and regular door when I enter my code there FIX this problem. I came by at 7:03 pm on 7/10/21 and because of this was denied access. Someone had a door propped open with a fire extinguisher so I was able to enter the building, this is obviously a safety issue this site needs to address. I was very disappointed with my experience dealing and travelling with U-HAUL. When first receiving my truck and trailer, I had to travel more than an hour outside of my desired pick up location. When picking up the truck, which was at a different location as the trailer, there was no Staff at the location and I had to run through the pick up procedures with someone over the phone. I had ordered a dolly and furniture blankets to come with the truck. I was told over the phone “yeah so we don’t have any of those, so you can call another dealer to try and find some”. Once I drove the truck to the location of the trailer and hooked it up it was realized that the trailer lights did NOT WORK. The process of fixing this issue caused my wife and I to delay our international travels by an entire day. After 3 hours of being on the road, the ENGINE LIGHT came on and the truck began to OVERHEAT! Roadside assistance was contact but did not respond. After checking the truck engine I found there to be NO COOLANT. I then had to buy 2 1 GALLON containers of coolant to reach the full line. After reaching our destination uhaul N Columbia Blvd. Portland OR, we were greeted by LAVINA who was the only helpful staff member we were in contact with. Our trip was a disaster and at times we felt unsafe and unsure of if the truck was safe to drive. I am extremely disappointed with this location and U-Haul it self for many reasons. I went with U-Haul for my most recent move and spent quite a bit of money on this company. To start with the employees at this location were rude u helpful and just plain lazy. They didn’t accommodate for me at all. Spoke to me and my bf in a rude manner. Wasn’t the least bit helpful with my questions that I had instead told me I will find an estimate the day I pick u up truck. Average is because you can't reach them by phone but when you come in there's 4 guys standing around twiddling their thumbs. Average because I was given a u-haul van with a cut gas line, forcing me to come back, change all my plans. Was told that the vans continually have cut gas lines but the facility is apparently too cheap to put some extra security/walls around it despite the loss in vans and a poor customer experience. We had a good experience. We are moving close to that area and needed a storage space. My wife and I drove to see what the actual 5x10 looks like in person. It was nice having the display units in the lobby to look at. I can't remember the name of the person that helped us but he was pleasant and helpful. We got what we needed and it was easy. I haven’t talked to Anita (Columbia location manager) yet, but I remember her from Powell location. She is a top notch employee which makes this review unfortunate .However, her new male employee (heavy set with glasses) was slightly rude, a bit abrasive and his way of expressing “the way it is” was offensive. It was as if my business was in question or not wanted. I was told over the phone (great customer service btw) first month free if I rent a 1-way Uhaul and in tandem with my storage rental. When I showed up in advance see the unit and do paperwork at Columbia I was told I do not get the first month free since I didn’t show up with the moving truck (scheduled with a cc for later that day) first. That seems to be a trust issue with bad customers. I have a history of positive business already in the Uhaul system so to not receive the offer I was told, even those apparently it will be the second month IF I show up with a rented truck for drop off. Then, when I picked up my Uhaul as scheduled later and told the Clackamas location manager he said the guy not honoring the deal (at Columbia) without the moving truck in my possession was ridiculous. However, he then told me that the truck I was renting couldn’t be a 1-way because Clackamas owns the truck. I was never told by phone reservation or Columbia about any possibility that I would incur more miles to return back to Clackamas because they own that particular moving van. In short, my plans to move got set back 4-6 rearranging my move because of the above situations there were more potential out of pocket to rent both the storage space and Uhaul. Frankly, I would have cancelled if it wasn’t for needing to move quickly and my cc already used for reservations with Uhaul. Not a memorable experience at all.Rod B. | First Impressions
The first time I saw the facility I asked the guy working about it, and he was very helpful and knowledgeable. Because of his kindness I went back to rent a unit. The woman working the desk when I went back was very dismissive and condescending. It was obvious it was frustrating for her to have to answer any of my questions or to give me any additional information except a "yes" or "no." (The man working with her was from another facility and not familiar with this one, although he was the one helping me). We finished the paperwork, and he told me where I was supposed to go. I asked about the free lock I was supposed to get for registering online, and the woman flippantly said, "It's in the unit," as if "Duh, how did we not know that?" I wasn't familiar with the building or how to get in, but they gave me a card and sent me on my way. I drove over and tried one door. The door opened without the key, so once inside I tried to find my way around. I was lost and confused. I walked back to the main office. The guy told me, no, it was another entrance. The woman said rudely to him, "Give her a map," as if he were stupid. I asked him to please walk out and SHOW me the correct entrance. He kindly did. I then walked back to my car and drove to another entrance. The door opened without the key, but I was still lost. Somehow I found my way to my unit upstairs, but the door wouldn't open. At this point I was ready to cancel the whole thing and just ask for my money back. I was almost in tears. Why couldn't they have just walked me over and shown me around this facility? I went back downstairs, and there was another woman unloading her car. I asked her if she was familiar with how this worked, and she took me back and helped me get in the door to my unit (the door was "locked" with a plastic tie that ideally needed scissors to cut off; the other customer tried using her key to "cut" the tie. After 5 minutes, she was able to get it off. We opened the door, and there was no lock inside. I walked BACK to the main facility, and the man gave me a lock. Then I went back to the unit to unload boxes from my car. The entire experience was upsetting and frustrating. The U-Haul workers both needed to learn customer service skills. The unit is fine, and I am happy with that, but that rudeness affected me for the rest of the day.Terri B. | Online Move In
