When I arrived to pick up the vehicle, my reservation had been cancelled because I was 20 minutes late. I had booked the reservation for 2 pm at 1:50 pm and let the agent on the phone know at the time that it would take me about 30 minutes to get to the location on my bike. During my bike ride to the location someone cancelled my reservation without even contacting me to see if I was on my way, as I told them when I made the reservation! Fortunately Lamar (the agent at the location) helped me out and re-booked the reservation. Lamar informed me that unfortunately the van had had the gas siphoned off it and the tank was empty. The gas tank was so empty that we couldn't start the vehicle until I paid to have $6 of gas put in a can and that was enough to start the van and get it around to the pump. I put in $20 more gas and headed off to my location. After about 10 miles the van began to stall because there still wasn't enough gas in the tank. I had the van stall out on me on the highway twice, including inside a tunnel! A good samaritan helped me safely reach a gas station where I put in $40 more gas to make sure that I could successfully complete my move. After that I didn't have any more engine issues, so I can only conclude that the problem was that there wasn't enough gas in the tank initially. When I returned the vehicle today, Lamar informed that I couldn't be reimbursed for the gas that I had to put in the vehicle in order for it to operate. It was inaccurate that I received the vehicle with any amount of gas in the tank -- I had to pay for gas to be put in the vehicle in order to start it! When I attempted to put in the bare minimum that UHaul would reimburse me for, I wasn't able to operate the vehicle safely. I returned the van with a half tank of gas. The whole process was a fiasco from start to finish. Lamar, the local agent, was the only highlight of the experience. He was helpful and really went above and beyond to try to make sure I could complete my move.
Jamie SI have a recommendation for self check in. Instructions need to be much more clear - When I received the code for "my" lockbox I did not know multiple customer's keys were in the lockbox. It is common when you buy or rent a car to receive two sets of keys. I took both sets of keys from the lockbox without paying attention and hit the road. Uhaul called me later when the other customer showed up to rent his truck and his key was gone, I had it by mistake. It made for a rough day for myself, the uhaul local rep and the other customer. It was an honest mistake and I think it should be more clear both in the self check in app and on the local lock box that there might be multiple keys in the lockbox and each customer only gets one set of keys.
Shannon SI was given a 15 foot truck when I had rented a 10 foot truck. When I inquired to see if it would be possible to get a 10 foot as I had reserved, the desk agent told me he believed that I was lying. Despite showing an email confirmation. It was strange and uncomfortable and unnecessary. I will never rent from this location again.

Anna RThis was very frustrating because there were a bunch of closer locations that I was told I couldn’t drop the trailer off at because they were not accepting returns. I’m not sure why so many locations were not functioning. I ended up having to drive for an hour across town to drop off the damn trailer when there were a bunch of locations within 5 minutes of my destination.

Bessie FMy reservation kept getting changed then they charged my card for an extra day even though I returned my equipment early the day of the rental by 6pm and the guy was still there and we literally went in and spoke with him and he assured us not to worry. He would check it in in the morning. I then called customer service this morning because I seen in the app that it hasn’t been checked in yet and she called the locations and talked to some guy named Josh who said he had been busy but would get it checked in. She me I wouldn’t be charged for another day yet I was charged anyway! Don’t rent from U haul they will steal your money
Tracy KI had originally reserved a trailer by phone at your location at NW 15th and Quimby in Portland, but when I got there this morning I was told they have no trailers at that location. Nobody called me in advance to confirm my reservation. I was then directed to your location at NE MLK and Killingsworth. The person there was helpful and got me on my way, but he didn't properly secure the safety chains, which dragged on the ground for some distance before I discovered the problem and fixed the chains myself. Overall, apart from the reservation problem, the rental worked out well for me.

David PSince we are to return the vehicle with as much gas as you rented it with, the tanks should come filled so we aren't left guessing how much to put in, or maybe retund the difference. Being told the tank was at 5/16 isn't very helpful. oh well. ya live ya learn. Ended up nearly doubling what i started with, going over half the tank, or 9/16 if you will. Other than that, no issues.
Ryan HWhen we picked up the truck, the back of the truck was filthy and the hand truck was not reset and it was broken we called to make sure that we were not gonna be charged for it because we did not request to use one.. And also, I just tried to return the truck and there’s no key drop so I have to wait for a call back to find out when I can drop the key off. It’s very inconvenient and you guys are really dropping the ball.
Melynda AEmployee was great—very helpful! I had a hard time finding the location (signage is not directly on the road) and ended up having to drive circles in the truck for a few minutes to locate the actual drop off site.

GILBERTO AWhatever happened to the practice of giving the customer a FULL gas tank and expecting him/her to return it with a full tank or be charged whatever it takes to refill the tank? Giving someone a partially filled tank and expecting them to correctly estimate how much they used is a ridiculous hassle.

GILBERTO AOverall the experience was good. They didn't have the exact number of items I requested, but they did communicate that to me the day before. The process to claim the truck was good too, but the back of the truck was open when we claimed it, and there was barely any gas. Luckily, we were moving items very close. The process was fine, the truck was good, and it was a convenient location when you need a truck.

Murray HThe passenger seat was filthy. The truck had a hole in the gas tank and gas leaked out all over my yard/street. The movers hired through uhaul had to wait for 2 hours for roadside assistance to come and fix it, and the whole move was pushed back significantly. This was a terrible experience overall.
Cara FMy original rental was to be picked up on Wednesday Oct 29th but when I arrived the U-Haul system was down and I couldn't rent my vehicle. At that time I was told that if I returned my 15ft U-Haul with a quarter tank of gas I would get a $45 credit. When I finally rented my U-Haul on the following day I assumed the same applied. Returned it that day with a quarter tank of gas and only received a $22 credit. I put $60 of gas in the vehicle and drove only 44 miles. Do the math...I got robbed. You do the math and tell me otherwise. I would have returned it on empty if I knew I would only get $22 back.
