This was the most apprehensive moving experience i've ever experienced in 40+ years of moving both as a military office and in the civilian life. The trucks are not maintained and the walk around for damage is a joke with dents, scrapes loose pieces of metal and trim hanging. The 24 hour access to the storage facility has a single point failure based on contact with the General Manager (Donna) at the Little Elm Aubrey unit off Hwy 380. Texts, phone calls after paying for the insurance, assigned code to enter failed the night of arrival. This experience of being cancelled sent elsewhere due to one persons inability to justify her single point failure, allow U-Haul dispatch to send me to Kruger where there was no storage facility (only a truck drop spot). When calling back to dispatch again he told me that the General Manager didn't want me on her facility because i was hostile. The the dispatcher goes on to tell me that my tone with him was rude. Please send these people to "Sensitivity Training" and issue them a "Hurt Feelings" card to use when their incompetence and unprofessionalism is challenged. I went to CubeSmart who offered a free one month storage and a monthly rate of $92 vs $174 at U-Haul. U-Haul doesn't invest in a 24 hr security system to allow people (other than the General Mgr) to open the gate if the assigned code doesn't work with 24 hr IT coverage. When i finally found a U-Haul facility of Frisco in Prosper and told them what my experience had been, the district manager gave me $50 credit! Hours of runaround, misdirection to the wrong facilities with no storage, and a GM that didn't have the courage to tell me herself that i had been rescheduled to another location by her because she didn't have the professionalism to face me and tell me herself, that i was hostile in my text that she didn't bother to respond. Below is the text between your GM and myself the night before upon arrival and her and my response back to her the next morning. That is not acceptable for a 24/hr access facility that relies solely upon one person after hours to contact to open the gate. I did follow your representative’s instructions to the T and asked specifically about access after 8:00 PM as I knew we’re not going to make it from Arkansas to the facility before closing the office. I paid the insurance charge ; was assigned a code and a unit #106 but upon arrival it didn’t work with instructions to text Donna. I did so with again no response and the called a 24 hr number to only be put on hold to get in tough with the general manager of the store to which she couldn’t contact you. This will be addressed to your upper management and if necessary corporate management for resolution and reimbursement for the lack of sound processes for a 24 hr facility. I need your manager or director’s contact information to start this process? That was my hostile response with no response from her and when i arrived my code did allow me inside the storage facility but Unit 106 was locked. I went inside to ask Donna about the lock and she told me to get in line while see waiting on other customers. Once i got to her she stated that i had been rescheduled and when i asked why she shrugged her shoulder and lied that she didn't know why. When i was a the Kruger location, your dispatcher told me that she didn't want me on her facility because i was hostile. Needless to say anything further, your company has a huge management and lack of training problem. if these are individually owned franchises, your corporation is getting a bad reputation and losing business rapidly. Penske trucks have a great fleet of well maintained trucks with constant maintenance as trucks are returned. This gives customers a clean and well maintain moving experience and confidence that the truck will get them to their destination. With U-Haul and your 24 roadside assistance you'll get another truck brought out to your breakdown site but then you'll have to transfer the loads yourself. I don't think this will ever get to corporate and get stopped by someone to prevent more hurt feelings but maybe there's someone that can address these issues and change processes before you go out of business. Profit is important but customer service, satisfaction and confidence U-Haul has lost.
