On 07/16/2025, I reserved a 10' x 10' x 8' interior, first-floor, street-level, non-climate-controlled storage unit for $174.95/month in preparation for my move to the Johnstown area on 08/30/2025. I made the reservation well over a month in advance to ensure a smooth transition. Unfortunately, my experience was anything but smooth. Upon arriving on August 30th with my fully loaded 15-foot U-Haul truck, I was told by the employee on duty, after a lengthy delay spent on the computer, that the unit I reserved was not available. He offered me an 8' x 8' unit instead, which was clearly not sufficient for my belongings: a queen bed and frame, washer, dryer, refrigerator, treadmill, couch, chair, ottoman, and over two dozen boxes. Before resolving the issue, the employee ended his shift and handed me off to another staff member. This happened right after the two of them had a casual conversation about how no one wanted to work the next day and how he planned to leave early for the beach. This exchange didn’t exactly inspire confidence, especially as I was standing there with all of my belongings and no viable storage option. Eventually, the second employee informed me of an available 8' x 16' x 8' unit on the first floor but said it was "weird", and they typically don’t like to rent it out. Given that I had just driven nearly three hours and had no realistic alternative, I had no choice but to take the unit at a new rate of $211.95/month, a significant and unexpected increase. The alternative, second-floor units, was not feasible due to narrow stairways, sharp turns, and the size and weight of my items. Overall, I was incredibly disappointed by how this situation was handled. Despite making a reservation well in advance, I was left scrambling at the last minute and forced into a more expensive option. The employees, while friendly enough, lacked professionalism and gave me little confidence that my reservation or even my stored belongings are being handled with care. This was a frustrating and stressful experience that I hope no one else has to go through. I would strongly encourage U-Haul to review their reservation and staffing practices at this location to avoid similar issues for future customers.

My only concern is that I was told a lock would be provided in the unit, there was not one. The employee told me they would get me one, but by the time I was done loading they didn't give it to me. Hopefully someone went up and put it on

Mark A | First ImpressionsI rented my storage unit for 5+ years and didn’t have an issue until the past year, which unfortunately is the reason for my poor review. In 2023, the storage unit as a whole developed an issue with cockroaches. As someone renting a space for my belongings within this unit, I should have been informed of the problem. This would have given me the chance to decide what to do with my belongings. However, the staff at Uhaul failed to notify me and then tried to rectify and cover up the issue. After arriving to my storage unit, there were cockroaches around the general area, as well as inside my specific unit and all through my belongings. In addition, there was an empty can of fogger found in my unit. When I confronted the 3 staff members on duty at the time, they all denied knowing about an issue and it was only after one of them slipped up and said someone else had reported an issue, that it became clear that it was trying to be covered up. After this, a truck was offered to me for the day, so that I could move all of my belongings into the truck and re-fog my stuff and unit separately…free of charge, how kind! It was recommended by the staff that I wear gloves while moving my stuff and to clean everything thoroughly prior to using, because of the harmful chemicals that are used in fogger. This would have been awesome information to have about 15 minutes beforehand, when I was just in my storage unit handling my belongings. After this, I left everything in my unit for fear of spreading the issue into my car, house, etc. I reached out to management multiple times, left multiple messages and it was only after many attempts that I ever heard back. He told me that I should have been informed of the issue and that he was sorry that it happened. That was it. When I moved my belongings out of the unit, I requested a dumpster to be available, because after a cockroach infestation and chemicals being sprayed everywhere, most of my things became garbage. The dumpster would be available to me, but I was going to be charged to use it. It was only after I brought to his attention, why I needed the dumpster and what started this in the first place, that he didn’t charge me. I lost thousands of dollars of personal belongings and after renting for over 5 years, without ever missing a payment, all I received was “Sorry”. The customer service was absolutely horrible. I’m fully aware that things happen that are out of everyone’s control. However, when you have a business, it is your responsibility to notify the people who are paying to rent your space if issues come up. There was very little communication and when there was, it consisted of lying about the issue even existing or trying to cover up the issue. My monthly rental fee increased by about $32 and I can tell you, it was not going to pest control!
