In my opinion, there are concerning indications of discrimination in the vetting process when Americans like myself, who have Latino names, attempt to rent a van or truck. This is particularly troubling as it represents a recent change in practice. For many years, I was able to rent a van and complete the vetting process without any issues by providing a single contact. Currently, U-Haul requires two contacts, and when those contacts are of Latino descent, the application appears to be rejected. This raises serious concerns about racism and unequal treatment in the rental approval process.
